    I think you should plant 10 acres of hardwoods to make it good hunting grounds. The other 5 acres beans or corn. Give the deer and other animals bedding area in the woods and also plenty of food. If you do end up digging an acre of dirt out to build a house up higher you can use that hole as a pond for bass and ducks

    It will be ok Flair, I had 40 acres and sold it to fund another business only to find out I am in the process of getting more land! Land is a good investment especially once you get an aggie exemption for it. It doesn't matter if it is flooded, better days are around the corner. I would do both livestock and planting seed. You can always have one support the other, making that farm flow in no time. No crops no problem, animal revenue and vice versa. I would build a new house on a rise, high enough where floods will do little to no damage. There is a lot of different ways to build a house to prevent minimum damage if it comes down to it. There is a company over here in Dallas that can build you one on stilts, they look freakn nice. Congrats on the purchase!

    Always good to have property. Now as a fellow old timer Nebraskan, I would wait a few years before I would spend allot of money on a house right there. The river has changed dramatically. We need to see what happens the next high water event. With all the high sand deposited the river may go out much easier than before.

    I had a brother-in law who used to tear down old homes. One of the ways he did that, was make arrangement with the local fire department to burn down the home. By doing that they were practicing how to be fire fighters. I don’t know if that is possible still, but that what he used to do in the 70’s and 80’s.

  • @theadventuringangler141
    @theadventuringangler141 5 лет назад

    You should utilize a few acres of flooded land and build a small pond to raise fish in "Flair's Fishinghole" and run subscriber tournaments out of it in a few years. Also, I would use the majority of the land for crops for a couple years to build some revenue to pay back on the land. Then you could go back and do whatever you want if crops aren't your thing.

  • @ptpfab6223
    @ptpfab6223 5 лет назад +1

    You should make a large deep pond and the dirt you take out of the pond you can use it to make your foundation where you are going to build taller and then you will not have water in your new house bc the large pond is going to have it and then the rest of your land is going to be tall enough

    Before blowing up or burning the house, you Might want to find out if there is any asbestos and/or lead based paint.....my guess is that you have both! And that would be a health and environmental debacle! And expensive as F' to deal with! But if not.....torch it! Now-ish would probably be the best time, as you have too much water on hand. But a gas powered pump, pick-up and discharge hose and nozzle would be smart to have on hand, regardless of the situation! And segment the farm into several plots, 7 ideally, and remember to rotate your crops and you should let 1 plot be dromant(feed plot?😉) every year. And try to use non-gmo corn and/or whatever.
    Crop ideas; 1) corn, obviously 2) potatoes, 2or3 varieties 3) various squashes; zucchini, yellow crookneck squash, Patty pan(green)/sunburst🤔starburst(?)(yellow), spaghetti, acorn, butternut.....etc. 4) onions; red, white, and yellow (or sweet) 5) carrots 6) greens; various lettuce, broccoli and cauliflower, spinach, peas and beans. Grow what you like to eat, and then the excess you sell! Good luck with the farm! And be one with the land!😉👍✌🖖🤙👊

    About the water... Is their a creek channel or small drainage ditch nearby, be it 100 yards. Dig a trench to that drainage area in hopes to get your water drained. Also, use a map of property and mark where the deepest water is currently standing, so if you want a lake 10 years from now, you know where the lowest part of the property is. Also, by having a small pond or lake, it will reduce the possibility of a bad flood next time.

    • @zachoryray6711
      @zachoryray6711 5 лет назад

      Say you have 100,000 gallons of water across your land, dig a pond deep enough to hold more than 100,000 gallons and property flood avoided.

    burn the house, then turn the land into 2 acre paddocks. then run pasture pigs, chickens, and a few dairy cows. this will allow for a solid rotation plan on the paddocks. realistically you probably could do that, and still have space for crops like corn or beans.

    I trap crawfish up here in michigan, by far the best bait imo is a cut up gill or left over scraps of the walleye I fillet. go catch some of those green sun fish and give em the ole slice and dice and toss them into the traps.

    Whatever you build it better be on stilts!.. which will be cool cuz you can park your vehicles and boats and stuff under the home. Just look at it as a blessing in disguise you can build a house to your taste and needs.

    If the flooding hadn’t happened then I would say that you remodel the house but now after seeing the damage and flood lines you should see if a local fire department or police department would like to do a training exercise in the house then when they are done tear it down and get a fairly nice pre-fab house and plop it down in that spot. The barn should be fine so just add some lighting and a work area and call it good

    With that property you should dig a massive pond and stock every type of fresh water species you can find

    You could have hooked jumper cables to the boat battery with the truck running for about 30min to charge the battery.

    Turn the new property into a duck camp. Levee up the corn fields. And shoot greenheads all season long. Or do like half flooded corn and the other for animals and such.

    Tons of comments on what to do with the new farm property, If you decide to rebuild, I would build the house to be elevated at least 6-8 feet either build on top of a garage/shop.

    Scrape the feilds to provide foundation soil for your house and maybe to start making that area deeper for another pond/stock tank. If you want live stock.
    You may also consider building your house on a Peir & Beam foundation. This would save dirt for the pond and save the house from the water. Plus u can build a wrap around porch for that real farm/ lake house feel!!
    Rip them lips brotha!🤙
