Some things that have been pointed out:
The wet footprints and noisy puddles were also in the original.
On PS1 you could use the analog stick for movement.
Genome soldiers are not clones, just injected with Big Boss genes.
The blue background on the codec is an emulator glitch.

If you think the us version of the game is pricey you should buy the Japanese version. I have a Japanese GameCube and metal gear Solid twin snakes. But both the system and the game from the same company in quite literally waited to get it from overseas. After I realized that it was in insanely good condition because the discs we're basically brand new and still are in the same condition I got them in. I ended up buying other games from that company like some of the biohazard games. Because I ended up pointing out to them if my purchase of the GameCube and of metal gear Solid what's a well-made purchase I would continue to buy games from them and I have. Also I'm using my grandpa's RUclips right now when I saw this video and I figured I would mention it on here. So like I said if you think it's too pricey you might want to look at the Japanese console and Japanese games. Mine were cheaper than the American versions of each game that I have. Because I got the system and the games for really good deal.

A theory that I like to assume in the Metal Gear Solid Franchise is that Metal Gear Solid 1, 1998 is the original story of how it played out on Shadow Moses. While the Twin Snakes is basically the story of what happened told by Otacon.
Otacon many times mentions that the whole situation is just like a movie and one of his Japanese anime’s. He also was not present for multiple fights that Solid Snake dealt with.
When you play Metal Gear Solid 4 and return to Shadow Moses. You can get a coded call with Otacon in which he ask Snake how he took out the M1 Tank against Raven.
Basically Otacon might have heard about what happened and basically assumed how it went. While realistically how we played it the actual story.
Of course you can say the producers of the game were doing for a matrix/anime feel. I still like to think this is what they were going through. Honestly to really justify the game itself.
I never played the Twin Snakes, only the original. However I’ve played Metal Gear Solid 2 and the mechanics I heard were to basically be the same in the Twin Snakes. I think being able to have more options to fight your opponents is a cool option for players. I also liked seeing you could jump over rails and crouch walk, including first person shooting.
The animation of course is nice in the twin snakes and is fairly clean for a game back in 2004. However we can all agree that the MGS1 voice acting and audio soundtrack is what makes it the best version.
All in all I liked that you played through both games and got your input on it. It’s nice to see people still give both games recognition. Great video!

The issue with the cutscenes in Twin Snakes isn’t that they’re so ridiculous, Metal Gear Solid was always ridiculous. The problem is that they turn Snake into a super human.
The appeal of Snake as a character is that he is grounded. He doesn’t have super human abilities. He fights and defeats the super human boss characters with his wits and cunning. Then Twin Snakes has him back flipping off missiles mid-flight and dodging bullets Matrix style. None of which can actually be done during gameplay. It kinda misses the whole point of the character.

  • @duffman18

Yeah the absolute worst part of it was changing all the music. The song The Best Is Yet To Come is absolutely gorgeous and gave the original game so much atmosphere, and was a big reason why it was such an enormous leap forward for video games, games just didn't sound like that until MGS 1 came along. It might honestly STILL be the most beautiful, haunting song in all of video games to this day, even though these days, big Hollywood composers do the music for tons of video games (which only became a thing BECAUSE of the MGS series, too, which just proves how important the series is, the most important series in the history of video games).

  • @RalphVB

The only people who complaint about the twin snakes are the ones that never got to experience the original in all of it's glory. Meaning playing it when it came out, thinking the graphics were amazing and everything about it was cutting edge (probably it wasn't but it seemed that way for my 9 y/o brain). All the kids I knew thought the twin snakes was awesome, sure a bit over the top, but every mgs game is, it's also part of the Japanese herritage. Not only that, there are characters that are psychic, are resurrected from the dead, litteral nuclear warheads carrying death robots, can tank a dozen mag dumps and walk it off. So why would it be weird for them to be dodging bullets the way they do in the John Woo version of the 1st AAA title? It just amazed us tbh.

  • @aurteekay6339

The reason why the enemy has a larger sight area in twin snakes I would guess is because in the metal gear 2 engine the enemy have really good AI and depending on what difficulty you’re playing on they will see you from farther away, pickup on more sounds and movements, and are harder to trick

I hope you've played MGS V too. Because it has the best gameplay in the entire series. It's an absolutely stunningly great game. The story is a bit lacking in comparison to the other games but the fact the gameplay is so good makes up for it.
Don't wait for volume 2 of the MGS Master Collection to play MGS V, I recommend just buying it now, immediately. It has hundreds of hours of content, it's just fantastic. It'll pass the time, pass the months, between now and when volume 2 of the master collection comes out.

People complain about how unrealistic and over the top Snake is, but he jumps out of Ocelot's, Tank fight, and Wolf's gunshot in cutscenes prior to their fight. The whole MG series was never realistic. Rose tinted glasses are thick in this series.
I really love TTS. I think it modernized MGS1 and makes it more digestable for new players to enter the series. I'm kinda glad they removed "Encounter" for every boss fight, it got repetitive.
Also the blue background on your codec is due to dolphin emulator. If you update it, it will be green like normal. Great video!

Obviously there are other issues, but god damn, if only they had recorded the OG’s dialogue in an actual soundproof room, so they weren’t forced to re-record it all with actors who either clearly weren’t interested in redoing a narrative they’d already performed, were being poorly directed, or whose character specific accents-etc were purposefully altered…that would’ve done SO much for keeping the original game’s spirit flowing through the awkward, imitative little brother that is its Remake

Nah actually twin snakes is the original full fleshed out game because it was a faithful remake and Kojima could realise it way more with the power that was given at the time from the gamecube gamecube was more powerful than ps 2 and to the "bad" over the top scenes (which actually every mgs had) I liked it they are not bad matrix was the s*** back then and Kojima wanted it like that.

Different music is not good, but there is good stuff here as well and different boss themes is something I've noticed just recently. Still wish for what was in original game. Only thing that is bad about remake is no VR missions. Those are the most fun experience in both MGS and MGS2. Otherwise remake is better. I'd like to point one thing. I feel like MGS1 Twin Snakes is just an over-exaggerated storytelling of someone who happened to be at Shadow Moses. The game basically portrays what that someone has experienced when they were there; thinking it was so epic like a cliche action movie. So I think it's neat for what it is. Not serious, but entertaining.

Can't really agree sorry.. It sucks that we could have had a shot by shot MGS2 version of MGS1 without the meddling of that Hideo Kojima essentially telling them to " go wild and saying no to the shot by shot remake" fans always say they want. In exchange, Hideo, a director, following a lot of current trends, saw what could be done in the mgs2 style and wanted to adapt it. I like most of Hideo games sure, but I get tired of Auteurship getting in the way and others being blamed for him not being the best director of efforts in all projects.
And then we have Silicon Knights who at the same time made some great games and got added to this which plays great. Sadly, they have had a bad director, Dennis Dyack, and we got to see his auteurship in full display with Too Human.
So, who's to blame? The orginal -Hideo-, the Director Hideo specifically choose for his artistic style and told him to basically go all out, or blame the studio that put it together and still had a shitty person in charge?
I still prefer Twin Snakes, despite both having trash anti-rental bullshit. "Look at the Back of the Case for Meryls' Codec"

    • @idakev
      @idakev 4 месяца назад +2

Because you need someone more grounded in the face of the over the top stuff.
One of the greatest things about MGS is that it starts off as a seemingly grounded military game but slowly gets weirder, mystical and supernatural the further you get into Shadow Moses. *That's the beauty of it.*
*Snake's biggest strengths are his skill and battle IQ.* He shouldn't be able to do an anime jump and kick over a huge distance and strike Metal Gear Rex or jump on rockets. *He isn't Neo and it isn't Dragon Ball Z.* It doesn't match his abilities in the other games
It's like saying "there's magic and dragons in Game Of Thrones so what would be the big deal if everyone knew magic or it was more like high fantasy?" The fact that these things are treated and seen as being extraordinary by the characters makes them feel extraordinary. It's like high fantasy Vs low fantasy. It doesn't take that many changes to tilt something in the wrong direction.
