I remember reading this in a review way back when the game was just released. I guess that explains why I didn't mind all the over the top bullshit and genuinely enjoyed TTS for what it was.
they'd fuck it up, probably add a horn to the MG Big Boss (medic) but leave something stupid like Dr Madnar's death intact even though it'll create a glaring continuity error in MGS4
Perhaps, despite the risk it'd be better to see that than yet another remake of Solid let alone potential remakes of sons of liberty and snake eater, which we didn't need a remake for to begin with. If only the remakes for MG and MG2: SS were made 8 years ago....
I've been getting into Twin Snakes recently, and honestly, I can see the point here. I feel like "this is the way MGS1 is meant to played" is untruthful, but the sheer dedication the game shows to a silly idea is commendable and fascinating. If I want to experience MGS1 the way it was meant to be, there will always be the original, but Twin Snakes is just an MGS1-themed party, and sometimes that's what I want instead.
I feel like a remake of MGS1, with the same level design, would not work at all. Maintaining the story and atmosphere, yes please, but reworking the areas, bosses, and gameplay, are all necessary to modernise the experience of MGS1.
I agree. It would have to opt for the Resident Evil 2 Remake approach by making an entirely new game from the ground-up, that only resembles the original in its aesthetic and story.
The original release? Yeah, agreed. Listening to the redub is actually a bit painful. It's not "bad", but its different enough to be distracting to someone who grew up on the original.
Ffvii, resident evil, resident evil 2, fear effect, parasite eve... Mgs is one of my favourite Ps1 games. Probs tied favourite with the above mentioned for me
In my personal opinion, the Twin Snakes is the best way to experience MGS1. The graphics are much more improved, and the gameplay has been refined, a lot of archaic design that flawed the original was fixed. Did it make the game a bit easier? Sure, but it didn't detract from the experience, I think it's fair to say that most people today play MGS1 for the story, not the "Amazing" gameplay of the original. I think people are blinded by their nostalgia goggles when it comes to the original MGS1 and won't tolerate another version no matter how improved it is. It's probably due also to the fact also that Kojima said that he doesn't consider it canon, despite the fact that he worked on it as a producer (lol, come on). Then people complaining about the exaggerated Matrix like action hijinks... were they a bit much? Sure, but remember that Kojima could have said stop at any point as producer. If they are such a problem for the fans, maybe in that case we should ignore the Raiden scenes in MGS4 as well, lol.
I would say yes to another remake but there's one problem, Konami. Konami is diseased. Rotten to the core. There's no saving it - we need to pull it out by the roots. Wipe the slate clean. *BURN IT DOWN!*
Demon Dethchase how great would it be if they just said screw it to franchises like Metal Gear and Castlevania and sell them off to other publishers that actually care about the property. I'll be honest, I want Playstation exclusive Metal Gear. They'd do it justice and even though he would probably never want to be in charge of directing the series again, since Kojima Productions is a Sony exclusive developer, he could be a consultant on the series. At least make it a timed exclusive. Metal Gear at Sony just makes the most sense if Konami didn't care about it anymore and wanted to sell it for some fat stacks of cash (its not like Survive is doing wonderful things for them).
Tyler Worsham I'd love Platinum to comeback and make another Rising game, but no doubt with Kojima voicing his desire for that, if it ever was in production, the big wigs at Konami probably shut that down quick style either before, or after, Kojima left.
I was so hyped when I read about it, and platinum's social media started to post MGR images teasing something and then the fallout occurred......after that nothing about that game was posted and I think silently it was cancelled, damn I would love to see a sequel but well, at least the one we got is a great game!
Kevin Mejia Nier: Automata was kinda confirmed to be born from the ashes and framework of MGR2. To be more precise: the director tackling MGR2 later became Nier:A's co-director working with Yoko Taro, after his MGR2 project was put on indefinite hold.
Eh, i play mgs for the story, so i liked easier gameplay. I also love cheesy shit so it was heaven for me. And in the end, i still felt amazed at what a good story was told.
Glad i find a comment that actually keeping me to continue my Twin Snakes gameplay. Everyone in the comment just happen to hate every single of its content..
@@fahmiadlisulthani3275 1 year late, but both games are great, and twin snakes is just a different approach to the original, don't listen to people hating on TTS and if you can play both games and compare them for yourself, rather than just accepting the opinion of others
Honestly, everything about Twin Snakes was pretty fucking nice. Everything is practically near identical to the original. The cutscenes were also really well done considering how crazy 3,4, and 5 were. What truly hinders this though was the gameplay. They should of never combined MGS2 with this and should've gone with a slightly different approach.
My first experience with the OG metal gear solid was with the Twin Snakes and I freaking LOVED it. I was aware that the game had refined mechanics that totally trivialized certain aspects of the game. That didn’t bother me one bit. Because I knew why it was the way it is, I just looked at it as a choice. If I felt like cheesing the game, I could go nuts and use first person aiming. If I wanted a more dignified play through I could ignore it and play it straight. I am so happy this game was made.
I really disliked how the cutscenes made him seem like a superhuman. I mean he's not, he's just like a Jason Bourne. He's badass enough, he doesn't have to also be able to jump off firing rockets..
Shalashaska 994 To be honest it fits the universe he's in. Being able to survive a Metal Gear piloted by Liquid until Grey Fox arrives makes no sense in the original. Or being able to take out a tank with grenades alone. Or destroying a helicopter by himself like that.
Snake isn't a normal human, he was genetically modified to be stronger, faster, and more agile than Big Boss who was the perfect solider at peak human condition so it makes sense for him to do those movements.
Frosty It really doesn't. There's a reason none of the other games have shown such insane theatrics. It only appeals to little kids. Being genetically engineered to be superior in every way does not mean superhuman. It doesn't fit with the story of Les enfants terribles at all.
Shalashaska 994, What is he if he's not superhuman? The MGS universe has shown psychics, cyborgs ninjas, vampires, and almost invulnerable beings that would kill any normal man.
Tobi You can aim in first person, but not with the degree of freedom that you have on MGS2. You can only aim horizontally, just like the third person mode, and I guess the only difference from pressing triangle to point at the enemy, then get back to third person and shoot is the missing camera changes. Also, I remember there being no dodging.
The MGS Integral first person mechanic works effectively the same as third person in terms of mobility. You can’t aim with any greater degree of accuracy (exclusively referring to control capability) in first person than in third person. It’s basically the POV button but you can move and shoot while using it.
Malamockq the video is about the effect adding the first person mechanic to the original mgs has on the gameplay, so it’s notable but unmentioned in the video that this feature was added in a different way to another version of MGS1
Because many people aren't familiar with that version, and remakes tend to use the final versions as their foundation. If we'd get a remake of MGS2, they'd most likely use as Substance its the template. The same would go for Snake Eater and the Subsistence or possibly even the 3DS re-release. If Metal Gear Solid 3 were to be remade and people would find the addition of a free camera and crouch-walking to be contentious, and compromising the game's design, then I'd say it's worth bringing up where those additions came from.
@@filipeflower I got the original discs, but no longer have a game cube. I want to play them on emulator, but I have no mean to copy my discs, so I downloaded a copy of the ROM... It's a legality vs morality argument, if the publishing company doesn't actively publish and make money out of the game, I say it's okay to pir... you know the word. Buying a copy from a 3rd party seller for 200$ doesn't get the original publishers or dev teams any money anyway, I'd say it's no better.
I always compared the “off” tone of Twin Snakes to Snake or Otacon recapping the Shadow Moses incident as a drunken bar story. Presumably to MGS2 Raiden
"Due to the nature of their conception and development, the Les Enfants Terribles children possess enhanced abilities and durability, surviving and withstanding physical and mental situations that would easily kill a normal human." Twin Snakes cutscenes match MG's lore
One shouldn't consider the Twin Snakes as a replacement to MGS1, but rather a SUPPLEMENT to it. On it's own, it doesn't stand but as a complimentary piece to the PS1 original, it's an over the top piece that's harmless fun.
It stands on its own really well actually. I played both games simultaneously and enjoyed aspects of both. Twin Snakes was more pleasing to the eye and forgiving while the original was more of a rough diamond(due to the age).
A_Stranger2256 i stop back in every couple months since theres hardly any good MGS vids on youtube to revisit when i reinvest in the games here and there
@@Beetlejuice_Sam I literally JUST played and beat my first ever MGS game! I played the first one (the original release on PS1) because I love retro gaming. I agree with most of this video. And to be honest, there were aspects of the game that blew my mind (in terms of creativity) even WITH my modern lens.
The GameCube version helped me to actually beat it as a young man. I was never great at video games so this was one of the only ones that I've ever finished, AND finished again
I once had Brad Furminger as a design teacher (he was a lead designer on Eternal Darkness and Twin Snakes) and he expressed frustration with TS. The programmers and artists enjoyed making the game, as they got to reverse-engineer and reinterpret the art and code. The designers wanted to make more changes to the level design and mechanics of MGS1, but Kojima really wanted a 1:1 remake plus the new cinematics from Kitamura who he had always wanted to work with.
I like the heavily pixelated PS1 graphics. I’m afraid an updated version would lose the darker tones and grimy look of the halls and warehouses. If they update the graphics of the game I hope they leave the voice acting from the original and all of its original sound mixing.
"largely came from the fact that you could rarely affect anything outwith the space of the screen" Me an MGS-1 player who kills enemies using just the radar to find them: "I am 4 parallel universes ahead of you"
That would be a short retrospective: it's a flawless masterpiece and the best survival horror game to date. P.S: I would still watch it if it came from Hamish :P
While I agree, I also think that RE got a lot to improve and the remake didn't needed too much to get the job done, but the original MGS was a masterpiece, it only needed better graphics since it already had his own style and no change was necessary.
@@CrookedStepsHardHeaded That's where you're mistaken, because there were issues found in the original MGS game, such as script mis-translations, for example.
Never actually played the first one the first one I played was mgs2 and I loved been a fan ever since still believe snake eater is the best though as far as story and gameplay
There's a lovely hd texture pack that can be added to the game on dolphin emulator. Combined with the wide-screen hack it looks like a remake in itself. Just needs someone to make a mod that adds the option to use the PS1 soundtrack and it would be perfect.
I distinctly remember having two thoughts in my head when I played The Twin Snakes when it came out, "Wow, MGS2 mechanics completely break this game" and "The new director has not only seen The Matrix but he may have gone too far with it."
Your thought about the Matrix shows that you are sheltered and only watch Hollywood movies because the Matrix did not invent any of that. All of that is Asian and the director of the Twin Snakes cut scenes is Kitamura Ryuhei who is the famed Japanese director of Versus and Midnight Meat Train. The Matrix COPIED from Asian movies. Also, its shows you aren't the fan of Metal Gear that you think you are. Metal Gear characters are all superhuman including Snake. The fact you didn't realize that only highlights your ignorance.
@@NomadFlow I know you're most likely a troll but sure, I'll feed you just once. "The Matrix COPIED from Asian movies." No shit, tell me more about how it borrows elements from Fist of Legend (Including why they tracked down Yuen Woo-ping and asked him to be their fight choreographer), Ghost in The Shell and a whole lot more kung fu and anime films of the time. There was also an interview where the Wachowski's listed the influences on the script and the movie and that information has literally been available to the public for the past 22 years at this point. Is water wet? I'm sure you will tell me. "All of that is Asian and the director of the Twin Snakes cut scenes is Kitamura Ryuhei who is the famed Japanese director of Versus and Midnight Meat Train." Again, no shit! Kitamura Ryuhei is Asian? WHO WOULD HAVE GUESSED! Next you're gonna tell me that all the Japanese people I lived with in Japan were Asian... OMG.... I DIDN'T KNOW! I DIDN'T KNOW THEY WERE ASIAN!!! You also mention Versus and The Midnight Meat Train in relation to the game, The Twin Snakes, and The Matrix, so let's look at those now! You say that The Matrix copied from Asian movies right after listing those two so let's see when everything came out. The Matrix: 1999 Versus: 2000 MGS The Twin Snakes: 2004 The Midnight Meat Train: 2008 Wow, look like The Matrix came out before all of those things listed... interesting. Also I have a copy of Versus on my shelf, it's pretty damn low budget and not really Matrix like outside of wearing trench coats and trying to look cool doing martial arts in the woods with super fast cuts and crappy wirework which was the style of the time just about everyone was trying to ape because.... The Matrix? HOLY SHIT WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT IT! I should also point out that Kitamura only directed the cutscene's for The Twin Snakes, not the entire game. I will also point out that it was at HIDEO KOJIMA'S DIRECTION that he go back and redo them all as they were originally 1:1 with the PS1 version and wanted more action, so he said "Okay, time to copy The Matrix in terms of style!" As for MGS and superhuman characters... some are, yes, but Snake is just a clone of Big Boss who was just a legendary badass soldier who didn't possess any kind of superpowers. Sure, you can argue that they messed with Snakes genetics and I will give you that, but it does not let you backflip kick off an airborne missile and jump 10m into the air to shoot a rocket into an inflight Hind-D that carries your twin brother who thinks he is the inferior one when it turns out it WAS SNAKE WHO HAD THE REJECT GENES AND WAS STILL A BADASS. Maybe proving that combat experience and intuition may not be genetic and that anyone can hone them? But that's getting into MGS5 territory at this point. And yes, "Nanomachines, son!" will not be accepted as an answer explaining how everyone is able to do something because it's the catch all response even in universe which is pretty lazy writing. So in conclusion: I have been playing Metal Gear since the MSX days on an actual MSX so go fuck yourself? Have a good one! P.S.: Is water wet?
@@worsel555 "I know you're most likely a troll but sure" No, I'm serious. " No shit, tell me more about how it borrows elements" You didn't know anything about Asian cinema when the Matrix came out. Everyone who never watched any Hong Kong action films where the ones stupidly saying "Matrix" every time they saw someone wearing a trench coat or doing action in slow motion. You're exactly what I said you are. A sheltered boy that only watches Hollywood movies and thought the Matrix invented all that. You only found out a little about Asian movies after the Matrix. When Twin Snakes came out, all the idiots complaining about the cut scenes only saw the Matrix and no Asian cinema. You just repeated everything they were saying on those mindless message boards because you didn't know what you are talking about. The fact that you are still writing "Matrix" even after claiming that you know about Asian movies means that you are even more dense than I thought because you are just saying these things out of habit. "You also mention Versus and The Midnight Meat Train in relation to the game" No, I didn't you illiterate child. I said that in relation only to Kitamura Ryuhei, to identify the director by some of his work. The fact you tried to build an argument around this shows that you can't read well. "not really Matrix like outside of wearing trench coats and trying to look cool doing martial arts in the woods with super fast cuts and crappy wirework which was the style of the time just about everyone was trying to ape because.... The Matrix?" Uh... no. Thanks again for proving how ignorant you are of cinema outside of Hollywood. The trench coat thing was popularized by John Woo in the 80s. Wirework was incorporated into action scenes in Asian cinema decades before. None of these things were invented by the Matrix but you still insist it so. Plus, Kitamura made very clear that his influences for Versus were samurai movies, Evil Dead, George Romero, Mad Max, Highlander, etc... NONE of that is Matrix. You have no idea what you are talking about. "As for MGS and superhuman characters... some are, yes, but Snake is just a clone of Big Boss who was just a legendary badass soldier who didn't possess any kind of superpowers. " No, he isn't just a clone. Solid Snake is a straight up superhuman and that is made crystal clear in the games. Snake was modified genetically to be stronger, faster, and more agile than Big Boss. Solid Snake took out a tank, a psychic and a deadlier Metal Gear than the one from before. Snake fought Grey Fox who is cybernetically enhanced and fought him to a standstill hand to hand. Snake survived a hallway of microwaves which a normal human would have died in 2 to 3 seconds in then went on to kill Liquid Ocelot. In the last cutscene of Metal Gear 1 we literally see Solid Snake outrun Outer Heaven's Nuclear explosion which if you didn't know that's faster than the speed of sound. Solid Snake is superhuman and that's not debatable. Twin Snakes is more accurate to the sequels of MGS as it's completely consistent to them. You have no idea what you are talking about. "So in conclusion: I have been playing Metal Gear since the MSX days on an actual MSX " The irony of this statement is hilarious. Not only do you not know much about movies outside of Hollywood, not only did you prove that you are illiterate but here you claim you are such an expert in Metal Gear Solid yet I just proved you don't know much about it. You're just repeating comments you read on online forums without thinking. Talk about an NPC.
I know this is 2 years old comment, but just gonna say, the director of the cutscenes originally planned to make them as close as possible to the PSX ones, the one who wanted the more "matrix-like" scenes was Kojima himself.
Dude if you play the game on easy or very easy mode of course it's gonna take chunks off when you use the tranq gun. Try playing on normal or hard mode . Then tell me how effective tranq head shots are.
I still wish we had gotten a MGS1 remake on the Fox Engine with Kojima directing it. And by remake, I mean complete overhaul to match with the Fox Engine’s capabilities.
I remember playing TTS during the 'cube days, after MGS2 but long before MGS3 came out, and I felt almost exactly the same way. It's MGS, sure, but high on anime power fantasy. The cinematography was so far over the top (and the additions to Snake's moveset so game-breaking) that it felt like Silicon Knights had absolutely no grasp of the subtlety of Kojima's original work. And that's really saying something, knowing just how far detached Kojima and the Metal Gear franchise would become from subtlety.
Another idiot that doesn't know what he's talking about. Metal Gear characters are all superhuman including Snake. The fact you didn't realize that only highlights your ignorance. All of Kojima's cut scenes after the first MGS game are like the ones in Twin Snakes. Twin Snakes are actually more consistent with MGS2 and beyond than the first version of MGS.
@@NomadFlow nope, not at all. If you can't tell the difference between a cutscene showing snake beating up a lot of dudes in cqc, like what there is in mgs 3 or 4 and a cutscene showing snake jumping over a missile like in tts, there's no point on arguing
We all know if they did not include first person everyone would have complained not to mention the critics saying 'nothing new added where is first person'. They need to add the enemy AI from MGS2 with attack teams and status updates. Than it would feel more balanced with the first person. I don't mind the card cooling and heating. It allows some time for the events to sink in and builds an eerie feeling of 'something big is about to happen'. Kind of spooky being forced to walk past Vulcan Raven's corpse over and over whilst the ravens are watching Snake. The rocket backflip is ridiculous even for anime.
"Due to the nature of their conception and development, the Les Enfants Terribles children possess enhanced abilities and durability, surviving and withstanding physical and mental situations that would easily kill a normal human." Snake is superhuman
I only ever had one issue with Twin Snakes: Audio. Rob Paulsen should never have been Grey Fox. George Byrd/Greg Eagles is the reason I fell in love with Fox's character. Encounter, Escape, Rex's Lair and Duel for all the bosses was an integral part of the soundtrack, the Best is Yet to Come looping over sad scenes made melancholic delivery all the more impactful. The weird boss themes in TTS and the lack of these soundtracks completely removed all tension and subsequently, removed the memorable soundtrack that drew me in and made me fall in love. Naomi's lack of British accent and Nastasha's lazier delivery was a lot weaker, imo. Everything else, bloody solid, I really hope if Bluepoint do remake it they factor this sort of thing into consideration. Sound is important, voice acting is important - changing them too much is a detriment at times.
Higharolla Kockamamie I have the exact opposite feeling. For starters the black darpa chief having the voice as the white guy is tone deaf as fuck. Second I love Greg eagles. Garcian Smith is one of my favorite portrayals of any character. But him as grey fox sounds atrocious. He sounds like me if I was doing an 89 year old smoker voice and frankly he just sounds like a fucking idiot.
Lord Dio! The torture that Eagles used with his voice sold the character to me. Rob Paulson just soinded like he was trying to do a Snake impression. Even the Portable Ops voice was better than Paulson.
Konami will release it as Metal Gear Solid Kojima Sucks and it will stay the original game, except they will port it to the next generation consoles and make it have loads of bugs and compatibility issues with no music and new voice actors from Ride To Hell Retribution. They'll also charge 60 bucks for it and have micro-transactions from going from Disc 1 to Disc 2. They will also make all bosses impossible to beat unless you pay money to take away their invulnerability. They will have it only on one difficulty known as "Money Buys Happiness" and it will be spotted-fail formula. The only way to change the difficulty is to pay for a micro-transaction to put it down one level each time for 5 bucks.
The Twin Snakes was the main reason I bought a Gamecube back in the day, and for me it was simply amazing to see Gray Fox's and Psycho Mantis' faces after taking off their respective masks. I loved the fact it brought together the gameplay of MGS2 and the story and setting of MGS1 - but some of those redone cutscenes were just feckin' insane.
How so? I mean I definitely prefer the original MGS but I think Shadow Moses was recreated really well. Would love to hear your thoughts on it, though! :D
Gotakibono I said story, not the scenario. The scenario looks almost identical to its original counterpart. I mean, the story. For example, when Gray Fox dies in The Twin Snakes, he was carrying his High Frequency blade, which for some reason, he wasn't carrying it in the original MGS.
im pretty sure in MGS2 Raiden talked about doing a shadow moses VR training simulation.......Could that be what TwinSnakes was, Raiden's POV of it in simulation? Considering Raiden also gets an M9 you could think they were training him in different methods of taking out guards, methods that wouldnt alert an entire squad like shooting a non-silenced weapon? Probably looking too into this, really hoping they port this version to the switch Could also explain the voice acting (like ofc in reality they already recorded these 6 years back so the original emotion is gone) but the colonel A.I, everything else was just one big test?
I'm glad I was able to play MGS1 when it came out. I always had an N64, but I rented and played MSG1 on my cousin's PS1. It like playing an action movie back in 1998. But I don't like the style the later games took. MSG1 is quite serious in tone without much humor. Twin Snakes was great too, but as pointed out, the cut-scenes looked like the director was on cocaine.
This will most likely end up being another comment forever floating in cyberspace without being notice but i gata say.. your videos have helped me alot these last few weeks.. depression hit hard during this summer and i figured i would try a new game to keep my mind off things, that game was dark souls.. coincidentally i saw your dark souls videos a few days after I started playing.. i think maybe it was a stroke of luck idk.. but the way you gave a different outlook to the game helped me do some soul searching while getting ass raped in dark souls.. long story short, your videos are great and they ended up helping some rando.. thanks
I remember how polarizing The Twin Snakes was back when it came out; but in hindsight I think it deserves a lot of credit for how much effort was put into it. The complaints about how some of MGS2's mechanics make MGS1's scenarios easier is entirely valid; but given the choice between that and just keeping MGS1's mechanics as-is - I'll take the former any day, and I say that with all due respect to MGS1.
I dont think effort was the problem The problem came from people who clearly didnt understand the material they were working with or what made MGS1 the masterpiece it was
Twin Snakes didn't have the same punch as the original MGS. The voice acting was as if they didn't feel like redoing all those long dialogues over again.
"Due to the nature of their conception and development, the Les Enfants Terribles children possess enhanced abilities and durability, surviving and withstanding physical and mental situations that would easily kill a normal human."
@@rightinthedome9973 1- You can actually change the difficulty settings before starting the game. 2- Naomi and Mei Ling's accents never made sense to begin with.
@@rightinthedome9973 1- That depends on who's playing the game. You can try recording yourself playing MGS The Twin Snakes on Extreme mode without the Soliton Radar and with 'Game Over if spotted' switched on. I doubt you'll have an easy time with that. 2- Not really. Naomi herself was never British. It was never clear as to what her true origin really is. And as for Mei Ling, it was stated by herself that she was born and raised in America, so the heavy Chinese is out place in this context. And that's also why they no longer have those accents in MGS 4. David Hayter seems to agree with this.
I played through MGS so many times, I don't even know. I used to challenge myself to play certain ways, like never letting go of the fire button, or a full ghost playthrough, or never use a ration etc. I love that game, it is in my top three games of all time. I didn't like MGS2 as much, though I loved the Tanker mission(I played the demo so much I think I wore out the disk), so I blame Raiden for that. Well, Raiden and the way the story went in the later part of the game. I bought a Gamecube specifically for the Twin Snakes and to date the Twin Snakes is the only Gamecube game I own but I only played through it a handful of times. Compared to the countless playthoughs of MGS2's demo, MGS3 and the original MGS, a mere handful is a very small amount. I completely agree that the Twin Snakes isn't the definitive way to play MGS, that something was lost in the graphical and gameplay upgrade. Its a good game, but of the two MGS versions, it is the lesser in my eyes.
I remember reading Kojima commented on making another remake of MGS1. I don't remember exact words, but what he implied is, if he made it it would be not what fans expect it to be. The Twin Snakes was rushed, but what we've got in the end is really nice remake of the original. Vulcan Raven could've been made harder if his shots knocked out Snake on longer ranges like in original and Ocelot battle could've used a trick to punish players for relying on first person targeting. But it is what it is. Personally I would prefer if TTS would remade and expand a lot of stuff similar to Resident Evil Remake. But it was rushed and became a missed opportunity which I blame on both MGS1 and MGS2. I do like MGS1, but it's level design is very poor compared to both MG and MG2. MGS2 was a lot better, but still had the same limitations in terms of level design like MGS1. At this point I hope we won't get another remake of any game in the series. Konami better to make a new game by either continue a Ghost Babel story or reboot the series.
the main reason why twin snakes fails is Konami don't want it to release on PS2. and it seemingly the biggest knock down decision from Konami.. because a lot of GameCube audience wanting colourful games and fun to play rather than playing single player game that has very dark and complex theme.. just finished twin snakes on dolphin.. and replayed the PS1 version 4 years ago.. and I can say twin snake is the best remake that I can ever imagine.. why the PS1 were so praised for being hard and challenging..? I want to play games where I can feel owe and amazed not like crying a lot when psycho mantis can't get a single scratch beacuse the colonel codec calls never ring.. too swap you controller due to limit of PS1 hardware..
I honestly hated playing the original ps1 game, the controls are pretty bad and a lot of stuff the game tries to do with them is absolutely indefensible and made me not want to play the game any further than the 2nd sniper wolf fight. So I switched to Twin Snakes to play through the whole game again to the end and had way more fun than I had with the original. Also I didn't know you could actually use the tranquilizer guns like the PSG-1T and the M9 on bosses, I beat Ocelot and Sniper Wolf the way they were meant to be beaten
I find it ironic that MGS1 fans criticise The Twin Snakes for it's Matrix-Type cutscenes, yet Sons of Liberty and Snake Eater are somehow fine doing the same thing. And before someone uses the counterargument of TTS being released before MGS3, should I remind you that they were released in THE SAME YEAR?!
@@filipeflower If you don't like TTS, that's fine, but I personally find it baffling that most fans forgot that MGS2 and the fan favourite MGS3 especially also have crazy, over the top, action oriented cutscenes like The Twin Snakes, and somehow they get a pass with Vamp (I know he's a vampire, but it's still ridiculous) running on water and walls.
@@Jahlil.W Actually, I find that exaggerated too. As for The Twin Snakes, I have both versions of MGS1, so I can tell what those are like. I even bought a silver GameCube to play MGS The Twin Snakes and Legend of Zelda Wind Waker.

I had twin snakes and ps1 metal gear and I loved both of them but twin snakes is more forgiving than ps1 classic and snake is supposed to be a badass especially after the first 2d games he's supposed to be ready for a fight and the first person shooting helps in areas in which the ps1 needed because its clunky mechanics its original is good but twin snakes isn't just better its how long time fans deserve to play the game like me
You know, you can still play this game without the M9. The M9 is just a handicap to make non lethal runs possible. Hell, even with the M9 equipped, it still never appears in cutscenes, thus proving that you don't really need it.
There was one guy I argued with who claimmed that the M9 gun kinda makes the game easier to pass, but that doesn't mean you can't change the game's difficulty in the beginning.
@@filipeflower even on Hard the game is too easy. Shooting in first person breaks the game as MGS1 was not designed with it in mind. You have to play on Extreme to get any real challenge.
@@the757general2 That depends on who's playing the game. You can't speak for everyone. Also, MGS 1 did have First-Person Shooting mode (specially if you play the Integral version of that game). By the way, why are you replying to a 3 years old comment?
I love both games and all of the Metal Gear games (but not metal gear survive....) Its one of my favorite game series, I hope we get games in the future that are great, it can be done, just not right now.
I dunno, I have never played the original MGS but I have played TTS many times. To me, it had the same atmosphere and overall feeling everyone talks about when discussing the Original. Yes, of course the remake is different, and certain things might get lost in translation, but to me it is fundamentally the same game. Also, I get what you're saying about the mechanics, but seriously, just standing there, taking hits and shooting the enemy in the head several times is not the games mechanics being broken, it is you refusing to play the game. Did you even use a Gamecube Controller?
TheSorrel OBJECTION! You just admitted that you never actually played the original MGS and yet you think you have a basis to claim The Twin Snakes has that same feel?
Dude, its a feeling. There is no evidence for that. There wouldn't be any evidence if I had played the original. People say that the Original has an atmosphere of isolation, a grittyness that makes the situation feel real even though its completely ridiculous and the way the characters behave and talk and what is happening to them makes this story feel intimate but grand. This is what I felt playing The Twin Snakes.
I never played twin snakes, and judging by these scenes I'm glad I didn't. It turns Snake into some Marvel bulletin hero, taking away the all important connection i as a player could make with snake!! Snake was a badass who had no super powers or gimmicks about him, thats one of, if not the most, important things about this game!!
"Due to the nature of their conception and development, the Les Enfants Terribles children possess enhanced abilities and durability, surviving and withstanding physical and mental situations that would easily kill a normal human." You clearly didn't pay attention to the Metal Gear story if you think the cutscenes don't fit.
@@GeneFOX70 and you clearly didn't pay attention to what I said! Bosses with superpowers are one thing, Snake on the other hand was different, part of the charisma of his. Makes him relatable. Thats my point. Nothing to do with fitting in or not.
@@homeralyami "Snake was a badass with no super powers or gimmicks." I did pay attention, you said this. Snake is stated to have superhuman abilities and he's been shown using these abilities throughout the series, literally since the first Metal Gear game. So yes, I find him more compelling to write." Hideo Kojima Charisma? Not according to Kojima. You can relate to a guy who outran a nuclear explosion?
Why do we need another remake of MGS1? A remake of 3 would be far more interesting. And 3 is a really popular game. Look at the response to the pachinko machine. Just streamlining the camo and survival elements would make the game infinitely better.
I used to love 3, but after V's story and the implications of what an absolute prick Big Boss ended up being after all the prequels spent making him look redeemable and misunderstood, like Hell am I playing another John Doe game. A Venom sequel showing he's very much alive, however, gimme gimme gimme. Best Snake since Solid.
"Due to the nature of their conception and development, the Les Enfants Terribles children possess enhanced abilities and durability, surviving and withstanding physical and mental situations that would easily kill a normal human." Snake is superhuman, he's supposed to do stuff like this.
I don't understand people and their obsession with remakes. What's wrong with leaving games as they were? Age is part of their beauty and charm. As are whatever quirks and possible rough spots that come with that.
NordKevRainy At a certain point some people see a game's graphics as outdated and ugly. There are also areas where some games breakdown due to tech limitations. Remakes fix those few problems while also putting the game onto a newer console for when the older ones are either unattainable or too expensive to repair.
>At a certain point some people see a game's graphics as outdated and ugly People need to stop caring about graphics so much. I'm playing Wolfenstein 3D atm, couldn't care less about how dated the graphics look. I still see and understand how innovative it was for the time. Fancy graphics add little to my enjoyment of a game. Gameplay matters most to me, after all I play games to actually play them not look at them. Feels like companies prioritize visuals over gameplay, hence all the 30fps console games. >There are also areas where some games breakdown due to tech limitations. I love seeing consoles pushed to their limit. It's why I play Shadow of the Colossus on the PS2 instead of the objectively superior PS2 version. I'm just too much of a purist. >older ones are either unattainable or too expensive to repair. I never understood this. I usually don't have much trouble finding older consoles for a semi-reasonable price at least, games can be a different story, but it's never as expensive as people claim. Just gotta look around. And even if that's not a possibilty, we have emulators to help us.
NordKevRainy a part of the problem is that unlike nearly every other modern medium, books, movies, television and so on, preserving video game history for modern audiences to enjoy is still a challenge, the best solutions for which we haven't fully figured out. It's not like finding a newly published book or buying the most visually enhanced film or show that you can use on more or less the same machine. You need a functioning system that the original was made for and consoles only last for so long. Having the right hardware is as much of a challenge for a lot of people as it is picking up an older game and playing what many would consider increasingly stiff and primitive game design by modern standards. (Classic 2D games have that problem much less because they were far more simple and lean in their design) At the moment, updated remakes and remasters are the ondustry's way of preserving gems of generations past, introducing them to new audiences and modernizing them for the veteran gamers. Come up with a better solution, but as of right now, this is what we've got.

Never played the twin snakes and I don’t plan to anytime soon but still mgs1 og is never going to topped. The only mgs games I have a problem with are mgs portable ops and peace walker especially with their inexcusable controls. I’m a fan of tank controls but portable ops and peace walker shouldn’t have this kind difficulty when moving the camera around during gameplay.
I never did the boss fights like you explained when I first picked up the game. For Ocelot I ran around then aimed in first person to kill him For the tank I hid behind a giant rock and threw grenades at it because I was shit at the time Grey Fox I just punched him because I noticed he was blocking my bullets Mantis took me like 2 days to get everything down, since he would do the blackout, and move shit around I didn't know about the item to keep my hands steady for the first Sniper Wolf fight so yeah.. The Hind was easy, stay in one spot and fire away 2nd wolf fight was the same, I stayed in one spot and fired away The Raven fight I knew I didn't want to get in front of him so I used claymores and shot rockets at him Funny enough I did back track to change the cards.. Rex was the same as the Hind, just shoot First Liquid fight was good, died a couple of times from just falling and trying to see if I can kick him off and the escape part was fun and enjoyable since I was able to kill everything in sight without wasting ammo.
Wasn't twin snakes only on GameCube? That one system 2/5 people owned. And the ones who owned it either never heard of MGS or they knew MGS was a Sony game so never thought to seek it out. We need a proper remake. Not an off the cuff one
I'm currently playing the original MGS on PSN since I'm a big fan of every other one. I decided to play the original PS1 version for all the reasons you list. Gameplay and design over graphics
Hamb-daddy with the sick MGS takes. Gladly never played twin snakes, definitely can see how the game not being built for those MGS2 features breaks it. Those boss fights were jokes lol, totally imbalanced. BUT LET ME JUST TELL YOU THIS discovered in researching for a video but MGS1 Integral on PS1 actually did have a first-person aiming mode, it was just too convoluted to unlock and seemed to have been built and then removed from the main game for being too overpowered. I forget exactly the unlock requirements but it was given after a first play through just like bandana/stealth. It was meant as like a reward for players who’ve already done the game. Twin Snakes giving you that from the get go? Ouuuuuuuuuuuf Love you my dad
Good video. I haven't played it, only the original PS1. No one else really talks about how they ruined the gameplay, they mostly just bitch about the cut scenes. I myself think that the voice acting is not near as good as the original. Its like drinking a flat pop. I think that the performance of the voice acting in the original was fantastic, and slightly exaggerated to give character to models that didn't have today's graphics (with the facial expressions ya know). Sometimes graphics ruin games, and take 10 times longer to make. How good do we really need it?
All true. TTS' new script and dubbing job are sloppy as fuck. Everyone sounds monotonous and bored, and some of the line changes are just bizarre. Like the Otacon's brilliant "it's not a weakness, but a character flaw!" is now something along the lines of "It's not a weakness... I call it "the weak point! :)" Or how about Colonel after the Gray Fox reveal, with his OG lines going: "Ridiculous! You of all people should know he died in Zanzibar!", while TTS has him stutter out: "Impossible! You... yourself, in Zanzibar...!"
they also had returning actresses drop their accents, even ones where it would make sense, such as nastasha. wolf was the exception. even for mei ling and naomi, who it didn't make a ton of sense for, it gave them a hell of a lot more character. the new gray fox voice is also terrible - even if the original had him share with darpa chief, i'd rather that since the guy gave a passionate performance. the new script is emblematic of the post mgs1 problem of "minimal localization" after kojima got paranoid about blaustein's opinion. every script has had tons of clunky, anime localization tier lines. it's a wonder that only twin snakes sounds truly horrible considering that. i want to say as well that the new music isn't very good - while it varies the soundtrack more, none of it is very metal gear, or very easy on the ears in any respect. and besides sound, the visuals of the remake aren't pretty. metal gear solid has a visual style, you can say the polygon level is a bit low by anyone's standards, but it's got color and the models look fine "for the time." twin snakes models look like melting, ugly messes (look at otacon alone and you'll see what i mean.) honestly, the stupid cutscenes aren't great but they're the least of twin snake's problems.
I like to imagine MGS1 is how it happened, and Twin Snakes is how Otacon retold the story on his Japanese Anime message boards.
LMFAO YOOOOOOOOO I CAN SEE IT
Dead. New headcanon.
I remember reading this in a review way back when the game was just released. I guess that explains why I didn't mind all the over the top bullshit and genuinely enjoyed TTS for what it was.
spalec Trust me, you're not the first one who came up with that idea.
I look at Twin Snakes being the "Legend" of Solid Snake, as opposed to the truth
The series doesn't need a remake of Metal Gear Solid. What it needs is a remake of Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake.
they'd fuck it up, probably add a horn to the MG Big Boss (medic) but leave something stupid like Dr Madnar's death intact even though it'll create a glaring continuity error in MGS4
Perhaps, despite the risk it'd be better to see that than yet another remake of Solid let alone potential remakes of sons of liberty and snake eater, which we didn't need a remake for to begin with. If only the remakes for MG and MG2: SS were made 8 years ago....
Don't let Konami remake them. Leave that to Kojima Productions.
I'm sure they'll remake them as pachinko machines...
I’d want a MGS3 Remake
Nvm: There’s and mgs 2+3 hd collection on xbox 360 and is backwards compatible with xbox one
Was watching when a cow mooed outside. I was so caught up in metal gear that I thought I was reliving a mgs4 scene XD.

Agreed
MGS1 for the PSX is easily still one of my favourite games ever, despite the dated graphics. Easily my favourite game on the system, bar none.
The translation was better. in MGS1.
The original release? Yeah, agreed. Listening to the redub is actually a bit painful. It's not "bad", but its different enough to be distracting to someone who grew up on the original.
Vox Potentiae Despite the mistakes found in The Twin Snakes, you still act as if it doesn't mean anything?
Vox Potentiae pure facts
This is what I'm looking forward to try because I'm really struggling to get into the PS1 version.
Agreed. Plus as someone who never had a Playstation when I was younger, I’m glad Nintendo provided a way to experience the game
I would say yes to another remake but there's one problem, Konami.
Konami is diseased. Rotten to the core. There's no saving it - we need to pull it out by the roots. Wipe the slate clean. *BURN IT DOWN!*
Demon Dethchase And from the ashes a new Konami will be born, evolve but untamed!

Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes, a game to surpass Metal Gear!
Metal Gear!?
I got the twin snakes absoulty love it
I really disliked how the cutscenes made him seem like a superhuman.
The MGS universe has shown psychics, cyborgs ninjas, vampires, and almost invulnerable beings that would kill any normal man.
piplupfan78 He's just superior than average. The lore is super clear on this part. He's pretty much a Jason Bourne.
It's worth pointing out that Metal Gear Solid Integral (the updated rerelease of MGS1) also contained the ability to shoot in first person.
How is that worth pointing out exactly?
The MGS 1 Remake on Gamecube was my first ever Metal Gear Solid game. I became an instant fan.
You got lucky, because The Twin Snakes is a very expensive game nowadays.
@@filipeflower I got the original discs, but no longer have a game cube. I want to play them on emulator, but I have no mean to copy my discs, so I downloaded a copy of the ROM... Buying a copy from a 3rd party seller for 200$ doesn't get the original publishers or dev teams any money anyway, I'd say it's no better.
I loved everything you hated about this game, to each his own I guess
I always compared the “off” tone of Twin Snakes to Snake or Otacon recapping the Shadow Moses incident as a drunken bar story. Presumably to MGS2 Raiden

Twin Snakes cutscenes match MG's lore
One shouldn't consider the Twin Snakes as a replacement to MGS1, but rather a SUPPLEMENT to it. On it's own, it doesn't stand but as a complimentary piece to the PS1 original, it's an over the top piece that's harmless fun.

Ever since when he wanted to work with him? I don't recall Kojima saying that before.

There's a lovely hd texture pack that can be added to the game on dolphin emulator. Combined with the wide-screen hack it looks like a remake in itself. Just needs someone to make a mod that adds the option to use the PS1 soundtrack and it would be perfect.

That is the only thing I miss from this remake. It’s great and all but how could they skip on on the music?
The Matrix: 1999
Versus: 2000
MGS The Twin Snakes: 2004
The Midnight Meat Train: 2008
Wow, look like The Matrix came out before all of those things listed... interesting. I will also point out that it was at HIDEO KOJIMA'S DIRECTION that he go back and redo them all as they were originally 1:1 with the PS1 version and wanted more action, so he said "Okay, time to copy The Matrix in terms of style!"
As for MGS and superhuman characters... some are, yes, but Snake is just a clone of Big Boss who was just a legendary badass soldier who didn't possess any kind of superpowers.

"You also mention Versus and The Midnight Meat Train in relation to the game"
No, I didn't you illiterate child.
The Matrix?"
Uh...
No, he isn't just a clone.
"So in conclusion: I have been playing Metal Gear since the MSX days on an actual MSX "
The irony of this statement is hilarious.
@@NomadFlow Snake was not superhuman

Try playing on normal or hard mode . Then tell me how effective tranq head shots are.
I still wish we had gotten a MGS1 remake on the Fox Engine with Kojima directing it. And by remake, I mean complete overhaul to match with the Fox Engine’s capabilities.

Or rather mg 1 and mg 2: solid snake :D
@@malik87breaker I don't think that's going to happen anytime soon.
What's dated about the matrix's fighting style? What surpasses it?
That's a good question.
I prefer twin snakes...
And that's really saying something, knowing just how far detached Kojima and the Metal Gear franchise would become from subtlety.
deadmetalbr the director wanted the original directions.
But Kojima told him to use his style.
CENTRA STUDIOS It’s something straight out of DMC3
They have the enemy AI with attack teams and status updates. I’m playing it right now on the Wii.
"Due to the nature of their conception and development, the Les Enfants Terribles children possess enhanced abilities and durability, surviving and withstanding physical and mental situations that would easily kill a normal human."
Snake is superhuman
I played Twin Snakes first so it'll always have a spot in my heart... but the original is better IMO even with the backtracking.
I only ever had one issue with Twin Snakes:
Audio.
This, 100 times this. The voices and music made the game memorable, and they messed with that... with the soul of the game
And still they accepted him back.
Hikaro torture? Sure you can call that garbage attempts at wheezing torture.
"...by robbing the original of it's incredibly unique identity "-
This is true of all remakes, no matter the medium.
HD collection on the Nintendo Switch pls
Personally I don't see Twin Snakes as a replacement for the original, but rather a dramatic retelling of the story for after you play the original.
Except they kinda fucked up the story setting.
Immersion = ruined
filipeflower That’s probably because twin snakes reuses many assets from mgs2, they were to lazy to make a new sword model.
im pretty sure in MGS2 Raiden talked about doing a shadow moses VR training simulation.......Could that be what TwinSnakes was, Raiden's POV of it in simulation? Considering Raiden also gets an M9 you could think they were training him in different methods of taking out guards, methods that wouldnt alert an entire squad like shooting a non-silenced weapon? Probably looking too into this, really hoping they port this version to the switch
Could also explain the voice acting (like ofc in reality they already recorded these 6 years back so the original emotion is gone) but the colonel A.I, everything else was just one big test?
No
Congrats on hitting 100k, Hamish.
Sorry Hamish can't say i agree with you here, Liquid was an even better character in MGS The Twin Snakes.
I loved Twin Snakes. I still have the save files for it on my gamecube.
This will most likely end up being another comment forever floating in cyberspace without being notice but i gata say.. your videos have helped me alot these last few weeks.. depression hit hard during this summer and i figured i would try a new game to keep my mind off things, that game was dark souls.. coincidentally i saw your dark souls videos a few days after I started playing.. i think maybe it was a stroke of luck idk.. but the way you gave a different outlook to the game helped me do some soul searching while getting ass raped in dark souls.. long story short, your videos are great and they ended up helping some rando.. thanks
I'll remember you
I remember how polarizing The Twin Snakes was back when it came out; but in hindsight I think it deserves a lot of credit for how much effort was put into it. The complaints about how some of MGS2's mechanics make MGS1's scenarios easier is entirely valid; but given the choice between that and just keeping MGS1's mechanics as-is - I'll take the former any day, and I say that with all due respect to MGS1.
"how much effort was put into it"?? Are you fucking serious?
TS is easily one of THE most low-effort "remakes" ever made!
I dont think effort was the problem
The problem came from people who clearly didnt understand the material they were working with or what made MGS1 the masterpiece it was
And the voice acting too. And the lack of VR Trainning.
"I had a great time with the twin snakes." Say no more fam. ✌️😜
Twin Snakes didn't have the same punch as the original MGS. The voice acting was as if they didn't feel like redoing all those long dialogues over again.
Kojima wanted a redub of the script to match the Japanese version because he hated the english dub.
Remake the remake, I’d buy it in a heartbeat. Love the MGS series!!
I liked twin snakes because I didn't use the first person feature
Congrats on 100k!!
Agreed on every level... .Ever since mgs4 i've had to turn off hud options and make the game more difficult to get a thrill
this my first time seeing twin snakes and it looks like a parody watching those cutscenes
"Due to the nature of their conception and development, the Les Enfants Terribles children possess enhanced abilities and durability, surviving and withstanding physical and mental situations that would easily kill a normal human."
I still had fun playing the game
My biggest criticism of the game is the game wasn't designed around the controls of mgs2 and it makes the game entirely to easy
Also they ruined Naomi and Bae Ling by getting rid of their accents
@@rightinthedome9973 1- You can actually change the difficulty settings before starting the game.
2- Naomi and Mei Ling's accents never made sense to begin with.
@@filipeflower Naomi lived in a British colony and both of Mei Lings parents are from China. They made perfect sense
@@filipeflower the difficulty settings doesn't make a difference. The game isn't designed for these controls making it entirely to easy
I just finished this game today for the first time and I personally loved it
I remember reading Kojima commented on making another remake of MGS1.
2nd floor basement?
Key card?
Psycho Mantis?
You're that ninja.
the main reason why twin snakes fails is Konami don't want it to release on PS2. and it seemingly the biggest knock down decision from Konami.. because a lot of GameCube audience wanting colourful games and fun to play rather than playing single player game that has very dark and complex theme.. just finished twin snakes on dolphin.. and replayed the PS1 version 4 years ago.. and I can say twin snake is the best remake that I can ever imagine.. why the PS1 were so praised for being hard and challenging..? I want to play games where I can feel owe and amazed not like crying a lot when psycho mantis can't get a single scratch beacuse the colonel codec calls never ring.. too swap you controller due to limit of PS1 hardware..
I much prefer Twin snakes and really just dont agree with most of the critiques having just played the original and twinsnakes back to back.
I LOVE Twin Snakes. I genuinely just really enjoy the game. Didn't think too hard about it. its just a great game to me but, hey to each their own.
Your point being?

So what you’re saying is as a Metal Gear fan it’s worth it but as a noob, skip it.
I had twin snakes and ps1 metal gear and I loved both of them but twin snakes is more forgiving than ps1 classic and snake is supposed to be a badass especially after the first 2d games he's supposed to be ready for a fight and the first person shooting helps in areas in which the ps1 needed because its clunky mechanics its original is good but twin snakes isn't just better its how long time fans deserve to play the game like me
Finally, somebody else understands it!

I said it has the same feel everyone keeps talking about when discussing the original.
TheSorrel You still lack evidence or even a basis for that.
TheSorrel Exactly who are those people you speak of?
These cheeses only work on easier difficulties, try doing any of that on hard or extreme and it won't happen
We need a remake of MG and MG2
I never played twin snakes, and judging by these scenes I'm glad I didn't.
It turns Snake into some Marvel bulletin hero, taking away the all important connection i as a player could make with snake!! Snake was a badass who had no super powers or gimmicks about him, thats one of, if not the most, important things about this game!!

MGS3 definitely holds up. The HD version on past gen consoles is already an amazing game.
I used to love 3, but after V's story and the implications of what an absolute prick Big Boss ended up being after all the prequels spent making him look redeemable and misunderstood, like Hell am I playing another John Doe game. I don't understand people and their obsession with remakes. What's wrong with leaving games as they were? Age is part of their beauty and charm. As are whatever quirks and possible rough spots that come with that.
NordKevRainy
At a certain point some people see a game's graphics as outdated and ugly. There are also areas where some games breakdown due to tech limitations. Remakes fix those few problems while also putting the game onto a newer console for when the older ones are either unattainable or too expensive to repair.
>At a certain point some people see a game's graphics as outdated and ugly
People need to stop caring about graphics so much.
Part of MGS1's charm is the gritty, dirty graphics that only the PS1 could produce. Making a polished version for current gen kinda feels odd
NordKevRainy Nostalgia
Twin Snakes is the Canon version to me (if you find the orginal to be that way then that's ok to!

The only mgs games I have a problem with are mgs portable ops and peace walker especially with their inexcusable controls. I’m a fan of tank controls but portable ops and peace walker shouldn’t have this kind difficulty when moving the camera around during gameplay.
It is topped. Twin snakes is the definitive version
I never did the boss fights like you explained when I first picked up the game.
For Ocelot I ran around then aimed in first person to kill him
For the tank I hid behind a giant rock and threw grenades at it because I was shit at the time
Grey Fox I just punched him because I noticed he was blocking my bullets
Mantis took me like 2 days to get everything down, since he would do the blackout, and move shit around
I didn't know about the item to keep my hands steady for the first Sniper Wolf fight so yeah..
The Hind was easy, stay in one spot and fire away
2nd wolf fight was the same, I stayed in one spot and fired away
The Raven fight I knew I didn't want to get in front of him so I used claymores and shot rockets at him
Funny enough I did back track to change the cards..
Rex was the same as the Hind, just shoot
First Liquid fight was good, died a couple of times from just falling and trying to see if I can kick him off
and the escape part was fun and enjoyable since I was able to kill everything in sight without wasting ammo.

Hamb-daddy with the sick MGS takes. Gladly never played twin snakes, definitely can see how the game not being built for those MGS2 features breaks it. Those boss fights were jokes lol, totally imbalanced.
BUT LET ME JUST TELL YOU THIS
discovered in researching for a video but MGS1 Integral on PS1 actually did have a first-person aiming mode, it was just too convoluted to unlock and seemed to have been built and then removed from the main game for being too overpowered. I forget exactly the unlock requirements but it was given after a first play through just like bandana/stealth. It was meant as like a reward for players who’ve already done the game. Twin Snakes giving you that from the get go? Ouuuuuuuuuuuf
Love you my dad
LambHoot RH I already knew that way before you posted this comment (thanks to alexfung23).
MGS1 is still the greatest game ever made, and is everything a game should be
Or how about Colonel after the Gray Fox reveal, with his OG lines going: "Ridiculous!
Hal Emmerich I wouldn't say "the least" because those cutscenes contradict what Old Snake in a codec call from MGS4.
@@TheDarthMasterChief the techno music killed it for me too.
@@TheDarthMasterChief what is minimal localisation?
