About the coupon… you don’t mail it in. See at the bottom where it says “Take this Coupon to Your Grocer” Your job is to take coupon to the grocery and use it like any other coupon at check out. The grocery store’s job is to take 10 cents off your purchase, and the grocery store then sends the coupon to the address listed in Iowa to be reimbursed the 10 cents they took off your purchase. Your grocery store may not accept the coupon if that Iowa addy is no longer valid, or they may be able to find a valid address.

That coffee was made/ground back before drip coffee makers were a thing. Drip coffee makers use a finer grind than what was in those cans, so a coffee percolator would have been the type of maker used back in the day. (Coffee made with a percolator smells awesome when it’s being made! )

I found that interesting, too. Like, how have they not changed the label in over 111 years. It's that old now. 2024.

I like the fact that Butter-Nut Coffee never changed their logo/can design. Usually, retro designs are much better than modern ones.

They did a great job sealing those cans for the coffee to still taste good! After seeing that cool battery mug in your video, I had to check if they sold it on Amazon, and they do. I am almost tempted to order one.

That small sample is probably the early Seventies version of ButterNut Coffee...
The can and coupon have that specific late 1960s/ early 1970s font and the pictures of the instant coffee jars and the woman drinking coffee in her double knit leisure suit pretty much pegs it.
Also, the numbers "J71-BNI" are possibly the date code... January 1971, etc.
The big can is certainly pre-1960... You're correct in your assumption that it's probably late 40s or early 1950s.
The reason that the coffee from the big can didn't yeild as much finished product, is because the coffee has dried out a lot more than that in the tiny can... The vacuum was lost and air infiltrated it... It just soaked up the extra two cups of water trying to rehydrate itself to "normal" for canned ground coffee.
    Cool video!

I never knew Butter-Nut Coffee existed until now. Quite surprised it held up for many decades. I might have to purchase some online and let my dad try it. He loves hot coffee and tea. Not sure if he has heard of Butter-Nut either.

Awesome video! Judging from what I can tell from the coffee's coupon, it looks to be from the 70s when plastic lids were starting to be common.

The Company has an interesting history and changed hands multiple times. It went through Caca Colas food division then traded hands a couple more times and ended up under Folgers. They stopped producing it in 2020 but i guess someone is still producing the original Butternut coffee. I am older and really don't remember that brand coffee. In my family Maxwell house and Duncan Donuts and the old Mr Donut coffees were popular. Then in the eighties folgers became popular.
