Very possibly the greatest song ever to come out of Motown. Performed by one of Motown’s most underrated artists ever.

Your right Jimmy Ruffin is one most Underrated Motown artists of all time. However he's one of the most talented artists of all time. Berry Gordy said that What Becomes of the Brokenhearted is one his personal favorite songs and he also said that Jimmy was a phenomenal singer.

I know right I learned that After his brother David Ruffin had died in 1991 from a drug overdose Jimmy became an Anti Drug Advocate. Plus Michael Jackson paid for David's funeral ⚱️ plus David's last Song before his death was called Hurt the one you love. When Jimmy had celebrated his 77th birthday 🎉🎂 he wanted to do one last Album before his Retirement so he went to Motorcity records and Created his final Album called The Soul Sound of Jimmy Ruffin where he sung all his early songs for the final time a new way especially his two Hit Songs both What Becomes of the Brokenhearted and Hold on to my Love. He even sang one last Song called One In a Million. By 2014 Jimmy was Gravely ill and his family had rushed him to the hospital 🏥 where he stayed in intensive care for a few months till his death on November 17 2014 Jimmy Ruffin had Died and two of his Children Philicia Ruffin and Ray Ruffin aka Jimmy Ruffin Jr reported their father's death to the News media. Jimmy was buried in Las Vegas cemetery 🪦.

I once fell in love with a girl so deeply that I felt my life and heart would end when we broke up, but after many years, I realized it was merely puppy love from an immature boy of 15. Most people experience broken hearts at some point in their lives & for many other reasons. I wish it were different. But there is always tomorrow, there is always another love, and time heals many things, but not all. Life can be tough & hard but to have loved & be loved is the greatest gift that life can give. After 51 years of marriage I have been blessed by the good Lord above so much more than I deserve. I'm amazed every day at the uniqueness & inner beauty of my woman my wife.

It didn't matter to her, from Louis Armstrong, Jim Reves, Elvis, The Temps, The Beatles was alway playing at our house. She did put her foot down when I wanted my name changed to John..lol Yes because of the Beatles..lol She knew that when it was The Ed Sullivan, Johnny Cash, Hee Haw, Smothers Brothers shows we would all watch it.. THIS WEEK IN MUSIC HISTORY: August 20, 1966 - 52 Years Ago Today: Jimmy Ruffin debuted at No. 87 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart with his single, "What Becomes Of The Brokenhearted." This was the R&B singer's chart debut and it became his first Top 40 and first of two Top Tens on the Hot 100 when it peaked at No. 7 on October 29, 1966. This James Dean/Paul Riser/William Weatherspoon-penned classic was a heavy contender for Whitney Houston to record for the final scene in the smash box office motion picture, "The Bodyguard," but was scrapped after co-star Kevin Costner's idea of using the Dolly Parton-penned song, "I Will Always Love You." King of the frogs, it is so funny you posted what you did a month ago, I sit here listening to Jimmy's Land of the Broken Hearted, and was so so wishing the same thing you did, When I was in Vietnam, smelling the stink of the Pearl River, this song came on the radio, and I thought about Jimmy who was a friend of mine growing up in Detroit, little did I know he would be dead shortly, He should have lived, and I died, Here it is 2016, and MOTOWN is missed, BUT NOT forgotten, they were the best days of my life...... TODAY is what BECAME of the BROKEN HEARTED ! Jimmy all these years past, I miss you and I playing on the sidewalk with our toys, you wanted to be an astronaut, I a submariner, seems we both found our destiny, you a STAR, and I a peasant... Love you brother........

It reminds me of when I was in Denang. We got caught in the wire got drunk off Margaritas and fought off 300 Vietcong with the help of Jimmy Buffet. War is he'll.

You are so right. I heard this when I was about fifteen. Seems like I have felt that way all my life, that gut-wrenching loneliness.

One of my all time favorites. This track he used or the live musicians played it way to fast. I love the chord change and structure in this song.
