This song definitely stands the test of time. Ollie was an amazing lead singer who put in his own unique touches to the song and made it sound amazing. Yet for those who remember the original recording, I guess it’s difficult to imagine the song not having David Ruffin singing the lead. The tempting Temptations were amazing group who went through so much and made it.
You're right he did put his own touch on it but he's the closest thing vocally to Ruffin add all the lead singers they've had I think he reminds me more his range is just a little higher than ruffins
Ali Woodson has his own dance step where he uses only hi right leg. I've notice this in most of the videos in which he appears. I love to hear him sing any of David's songs as he is the only replacement lead who gives them justice.

Arguably the best line-up ever of (post-Ruffin/Edwards/Kendricks) Tempts with Theo and Ollie in there. Ollie onliest lead singer who ever comes close to the look, sound and "feel" of David Ruffin, no coincidence, he worked ultra hard to make that happen.

A little bit, yeah. Possibly because there was pretty much zero black music in the charts in Australia all through the 60s and 70s. Ray Martin (the presenter) would have been about 20 when My Girl was released, so he would probably have been heavily into the British and Australian pop and rock that was popular at the time, and he wouldn't have been particularly aware of Motown or its significance. It's definitely not 'his music'.

Ollie is the best vocalist they ever had in The Temptations. He could hit a high, nail a hoarse vocal like no one I know. Dennis Edwards could do hoarse vocal but it didnt have the soul of Ollie.

There is only one true temptations and that is the original five. No one will ever replace David Ruffin and Eddie Kendricks. There were guys that sang well but no one could ever replicate the original. Paul Williams was also never given the credit he deserves. He did all the choreography and had a wonderful voice.
