    What’s your favorite free ad-supported streaming service?

  • @evlnte
    @evlnte Год назад +10

    Trying Sling Free actually helped me decide to ultimately get the paid service. Trying the interface and not feeling "forced" into the paid service goes a long way to make customers feel "welcome" vs boxed into a paid tier.

      Great point and completely agreed. Since it's the same basic interface, it really goes a long way to help you get an idea of what the standard service is like.

    Right now, my two favorite ad-supported streaming services are Pluto and Tubi. I do have several others on my Roku that I do not watch so often. But I put them on there so that when I search for a show or movie and save it to my list, if it does eventually turn up on one of the free streaming services, it will let me know.

    • @FrugalRules
      @FrugalRules  Год назад +1

      Those are both good ones. Tubi tends to be our go-to, but thankfully there are an ample number of choices available.

    I believe sling airtv deals aren't going on right now. I had to cancel mine again because it wouldn't let me change my subscription when I restarted it.

    • @FrugalRules

      You're correct. Reports about it came out after we filmed. We spoke with Sling today and they confirmed it will be returning in the very near future. It doesn't necessarily help in your case, but they're available to purchase on Amazon & at Walmart and Best Buy. You don't get the deal, obviously, but an option for someone in a pinch.

    • @TheNotMeTube
      @TheNotMeTube Год назад +2

      Doesn’t mean there aren’t other deals to be had. I only wanted FreeStream and already had an indoor antenna, so didn’t make sense for me to prepay for a service I wasn’t interested in just to get a deal on the hardware. I ended up getting an open box AirTV Anywhere for $99 on Amazon. It works just as it should and am enjoying Sling’s free channels along with my locals OTA. I’m on vacation right now in another state and am logged into my Sling account and am still enjoying all my channels just like I do at home

      @@FrugalRules I am interested to see how far sling will go with this free stream when it comes to how many and what kind of channels they add.

    • @FrugalRules
      @FrugalRules  Год назад +2

      @@TheNotMeTube Yep, exactly. It's still out there, just not currently as a deal from Sling. But, if you don't want the paid option, but do want it, there's no sense to wait around. 🙂

    Hi, one quick question I have is if an Airtv2 is connected and Sling includes the broadcast channels via antenna, can the AirTV2 record such channels also, or would it be exclusive to just the Sling channels?

    • @FrugalRules
      @FrugalRules  Год назад +2

      Unfortunately, the AirTV 2 only allows you to record over-the-air channels.

    • @louisd95714
      @louisd95714 Год назад +2

      @@FrugalRules I see, so to sum it up, even though Sling can include the local channels in it's EPG via AirTV 2, recording is restricted to the over the air channels, and the only way to record the Sling shows would be to use Slings' recording option to record its shows, correct?

    • @FrugalRules
      @FrugalRules  Год назад +2

      @@louisd95714 Yes, that is correct. You use Sling's interface to record both your over the air channels AND the cable channels included in paid Sling packages. But you can only record content you're getting through your antenna on an AirTV or AirTV 2 device. If you want to record content on a paid Sling channel, you must use their included cloud DVR or upgrade for the expanded capacity.

    I pick up Airtv2 so I can get my local channels on sling. But the antenna I have is a big and bulky antenna. So now I have an antenna that can stick to the window, but I don’t know how to rescan. Can you help me? Thank you.

    • @FrugalRules
      @FrugalRules  Год назад +1

      Hi Ester! Have you connected your antenna to your AirTV2 device? And have you connected your AirTV2 device to your Sling account? Once you do those two things, there is a button within Sling settings to "Rescan Channels". You can see step by step instructions in our video on How to Record Locals on Sling: ruclips.net/video/bId_ySBIpBw/видео.html.

    I tried Sling years ago with an OTA. The hope was to get local channels for free. The problem I experienced was the antenna I installed could not pickup all local channels at the same time (it was a directional issue). Additionally, the quality of the live local channels was poor. So, I dumped Sling. Has anyone had a similar experience? Does anyone have ideas for fixing this?

      I had/have sling while living in Philly. ABC was always not available with an antenna. Weak or no signal for ABC. Now in Jersey and the same for ABC. Antenna picks up the other channels but still no ABC. FREEVEE airs my local ABC News live so I'm covered. Philadelphia Market is one that basic sling has NBC and FOX. If you pay the local channel fee you get ABC too but that is newly offered. I'll save my money and go with basic sling with the included two locals.

      No idea what you tried previously. In some cases the OTA broadcast towers are simply too far away and/or blocked by buildings, trees, etc. If you used a simple indoor antenna you might benefit from a roof installed antenna (or not). A good roof-mounted antenna should be able to pull quite a bit more in than a simple indoor antenna. For those not receiving ABC I'm wondering (speculating really) wha actual band they are broadcasting on. There's low VHF, high VHF, and UHF. Different types of antenna are better or worse at receiving signals depending on the actual broadcast frequency.
