Some good points, but there's a fair few issues that go a lot deeper and are a threat especially to vulnerable people inside the fandom, as well as the fandom itself whenever things go public and other people pick up the digital fallout from the aftermath. While our community prides itself on inclusivity and giving people regardless of heritage, faith, sexual orientation, gender identity or other factors a spot to socialize in, it also fails to keep those spaces safe. Problematic people are still given a platform, they and their following often times bully people out of the community altogether, and their views and ideals get a free pass, even if they harm the overll health of the fandom and the people within. Most people will have heard of some of the stories that eventually blew up and reached furry fandom, or even wider internet infamy, but that's only the tip of the iceberg. I've been actively participating in the fandom for nearly 20 years now, and experienced no shortage of these things first hand. There are many many good individuals out there who genuinely care for the wellbeing of others, but I cannot stand the fact its almost 2024 and yet just to name one of many, there's a furry that called a poc member of our local community a monkey on several occasions, was knowingly transphobic, worked with known alt-right supporters and yet they are still being celebrated simply because they own a fursuit and semi-frequently post adult imagery and videos. Knowing that, how can you even begin to convince others that the fandom isnt inherently sexual, if people throw common sense and every ounce of respect out the window that easily? We may have our own much, much smaller subgroups that are a bit more selective and careful about who's in them, but overall? Fandom's got severe issues... had them for a while and to me it feels they're getting worse.
About the size of cons and the accomodations availability, there is one thing that is out of anyone's control. It's that the fandom is growing massively, year after year. Small cons eventually gets larger too and are confronted to the choice of either evolving in a larger format, or stay small but thus face the issue of not being able to accomodate everyone. I'm going to attend my very first con in April, after 12 years in the fandom. It is a small one in France (We only have small cons anyway, by the US standard xD) with around 500 expected attendees, but the registration for a room at the hotel were open for 32 seconds ! That's quite scary hahah The largest con in France this year had 750 attendees but over 1 400 demands. That seems to be a rather big issue in Europe, apparently.
Cause of the news article thing my family became less agreeable to it Not knowing the twists and lies they put on it My intentions is to be a charity furry I wanna make people smile Not..ya know
I refuse to go to a con that has an attendance equal to a decent size town because I know things like registration, even at higher levels, will he (Hades). I would prefer to go to a smaller con where I can get through reg in minutes (most of the time) and can traverse the entire width, height, and breadth of the con in about 5 minutes. If you can do it, I highly recommend volunteering and registering at a higher level. You would be amazed how utterly useful having some people to help move things like charity auction items around is, and it only takes an hour or so. Higher levels give you more swag, but they also really help the con. Founders at MFM have bought the con sound systems, lights, etc., over the years. It has really enhanced the experience for all the con goers.
Also it's worth mentioning that BLFC takes place in Orlando. Anyone who's been to florida knows the humidity can get pretty brutal for much of the year, which I imagine would be very uncomfortable to fursuit in
Great video, I agree with most if not all of your points also 3:18 at MFF this year they had a FULLY IMPROVISED musical and it was absolutely hilarious, cons should definitely do more stuff like that, as both a furry and a theater nerd it was great to see actors in the furry fandom
Hotel bookings are something a Convention doesn't always have full control over. So often there isn't really any way for the convention to make it work. They have to talk to the hotel, and ask them to make it work. Individual hotels usually aren't working directly with reservations, they work through a central booking system. And that system receives reservations from more than just the convention. That's why you get rooms released all at once, or in blocks, or in a lottery. Because it's the "fairest" way for attendees, and the least work for the hotel. The best way to do it, using the tools available to most conventions, is either to issue booking codes to anyone who preregisters, or to create a reg level that includes a hotel room, or ideally both. And include in the hotel contract that rooms booked through the convention, can be exchanged with other congoers for no extra fee.
parking situations at furry cons, i believe if you have a room booked at at the main hotel you should have prioritized parking at the main hotel 😭 this year’s furpocalypse parking situation got overbooked n messy
We can't wait for 2024 Fur-Eh in the new venue. 2023 Fur-Eh was a blast, and the only feedback I think any of us had was that we may have outgrown that hotel. But that might also just be the memories of the night that 2/3 elevators broke down...
My con tip related to the last one is just call the hotel front desk and ask for big trash bags. Not the usual ones they give for the small cans in the room, but the big ones they use, because it's so much easier to load those up with junk during/after a party. Keep the room tidy throughout the weekend and then it's less of a hassle to clean up everything before check-out.
2:20 There should be a better way to assign rooms. I know two people who registered for both ScotiaCon and Confuzzled, the two big UK furcons, and missed out on both despite registering for residential tickets as soon as physically possible only to find out later that people from the US and mainland Europe got rooms. It's incredibly annoying as the UK only has two 'big' cons (1k people for ScotiaCon and 3k for Confuzzled) and they're always overbooked, residents of the country should be facilitated first IMO which is a hot take a lot of people wont like.
If "you" want more daces at cons go to the con board and tell them you want to run it. If "you" want a fursuit meet and greet over the fursuit parade go to the con board and tell them you want to run it. If "you" want a talent show go to the con board and tell them you want to run it. If "you" want more smaller fur cons create a con board and start them. If you have not gotten the theme here it comes down to if you "Spam the Boar" want something you need to make it happen your self as if someone else wanted it all that badly they would have already have done it. The vast majority of people are followers and will only do things if others will make it happen. I have not really gone to hotel cons for better than a decade now (three in better than a decade) as I just got tired of the entire hassle of it. I attend camping cons as people just can't go off and be in their little clicks as they do at hotel cons as people don't really want to be in tiny little tents for hours on end and actually want to socialize with the bigger group instead. Now I run the archery field as people actually want to participate in it. I had ran other events but people where just not interested in them so I stopped running them and ran what people actually wanted to participate in doing.
This! Totally This! I've started and ran things all the time to make it happen. Unfortunately I get burnt out. lol. But others have picked up where I have left off and its cool to see it flourishing!
As someone who is a director of expo at a pop culture con I would add don't harass the hotel staff...don't make their job a pain. It makes it really hard to on the con staff to negotiate for the coming years if the attendees are running a muck. Like doing illegal things or things that are disgusting.
Great video! I am gonna have to get caught up on some of your stuff, but I am glad to hear that you had fun at Fur-Eh! including the musical. The whole crew worked their collective asses off to make that a reality.
I would love to get a partial suit of my Fursona but I’m so picky with artstyle. Like it had to be very close to the style I applied for my Fursona that it doesn’t feel right if it wasn’t 😭
It felt weird going to Fur Eh! I'm from the states and my two 'local' cons were FC and BLFC. And now that I'm up here in the Frozen North, everything is so far apart. Fur Eh is the closest to me. It is really well run though!
Very informative video, a lot of excellent points. Not sure about the furry dance scene as I'm personally not into it but that saddens me to hear the perception of less participation overall. Could it be not good enough marketing to garner interest? Maybe covid kept people isolated that it smudged out more potential talent... its hard to pin point. Times do change though.. hopefully it kicks off again in the future.
Here are some smaller cons I know of! AqutiFur FurTheMore Howloween Fur-eh FurTheMore is in Crystal City Virginia! AqutiFur is near Wisconsin, not sure exactly where, my friend knows And Howloween and Fur-eh are the ones SpamBoar mentioned! i like going to furcons but i went to tff and tfs last year and the panels kinda sucked, i went to denfur and had an amazing time at one of the panels, it was homebrew for alcohol and they told us about it, at mcfc there was one about trains! it was so cool, but the panels at tff and tfs last year were mostly all fetish oriented and sexual in nature to some aspect. it really has gone down hill, even in the dealers den
Ok im going say you guys are adorable. I appreciate what you guys are doing. I ga e a friend who's a furry. But its sad that people dont recognize their just people having fun doing be what they love. My hats off to you guys. And kerp up the good work.
Fursuit parade: Really depends on how it's run and what's the route. The footage in your video looks like the parade was basically in a parking lot. Yeah, that's not fun. At Nordicfuzzcon 2019 (Will be there this year again lol) the walk was through the huuuuuge lobby that even featured a koi pond. At Gdakon 2017 we just stuffed all the fursuiters (In suit) and spotters into buses and brought them to the historic old town of Sopot (Poland). Theater stuff: There's a theatre group in germany called the Furry Tail Theatre. They've thrown two really good acts at the past two Eurofurences. Other than that....Yeah More events are awesome. And not all the times the same ones....Like Paws on fire. Sure, it's an awesome event. but it's almost everywhere. And it doesn't have to be something....exotic. NFC has Fursuit Charades, for example. Simple but genius. Hotel room reg: There i LOVE what NFC did. Just spread the rooms through multiple hotels that are within walking distance to eachother. In Malmö you also have the option to just book another hotel that's within walking distance yourself. That's what we did. But that only works in walkable cities. *Evil stare on america* A friend hugged you at FC btw and sent me a picture because i'm also a boar. He was a very pink fox :P There need to be more boars.
There's no real solution to the reg line problem, bar mailing everyone their con badge, but that opens up a whole other can of worms (con badge can go missing in the post, international post sucks, etc).
Fursuit parades - so it seems BLFC did something similar to what I've proposed: a reverse Fursuit parade. That's where the furries stay in one place along a set path and the public walk the path to look at and interact with the furries. Hotels - This is certainly a much lesser issue at small cons. But then again Anthrocon, a huge con, doesn't seem to have the same problems as Midwest Furfest, an equally huge con. Why? Is it all about the hotel booking processes? Volunteering - I really want to but at the same time I don't want to divert my time away from meeting friends and doing activities at the con. The closest I've come is moving and setting up chairs in the main ballrooms at some of the smaller cons.
I think it would also help if there were bigger fur RUclips channels. It seems like it's really hard for anyone to break 1m subs even though I know the fandom is obviously massive 😅
Very interesting video. I wanna talk about your points in order. - Absolutely agree about the resellers. I don't know why cons are letting them in when they claim to care about that. - Fursuit Parades are dying, sadly. They're much more common at Canadian cons (which is where the bulk of your cons are), and I've definitely noticed them being quietly retired at many US cons because there's just too many fursuiters nowadays. - I disagree with this one. The "fandom representative" niche has been filled by Uncle Kage for like the last 20 years, and I got skewered by folks when I did a short radio interview after a con I attended received a bomb threat. But I actually work in politics and in speech writing so I am totally comfortable talking to the media. I think the advice should be more "if you see a camera at a con, don't engage unless you're prepared to be on video". And a lot of furries just don't want that kind of attention which is perfectly fine. There's a reason I was also the first furry to ever make it to air on a Got Talent franchise! - The dancers comment is definitely accurate, and Eigen is correct in the assesment that the East coast cares more than the West coast on that front. I will have a video coming out soon on this topic as well so stay tuned for that. - I sure hope cons figure out a room lottery strategy. Smaller cons are the way forward for me personally, I just don't get much out of big cons anymore. They just seem to bring the worse sides of the fandom out. - Ha. As a musician who's trying to speak out about the ways we seem to be getting treated by cons when asking for the bare minimum to put on a show of some kind, it's generally a disheartening experience. But I too would love to see more shows at cons, and not just the one guy who got mainstage at all 3 years of MFF. Especially since they were exposed recently for literally paying a marketing agency to design their sona and name. The first "industry plant" in the fando is pushing out genuine talent at our biggest con, not good. - Yeah elevators are always difficult xD - I absolutely agree about the suites being condusive to parties, and that should be a requirement for getting one. It's what I've done every time I get one! - YESSSSSSSSSSS more volunteers! Better treatment of staff! Solid video, many good points and conversation starters. Onto 2024!

i hope for n95 mask mandates in a disabling pandemic so more disabled furs can feel comfortable and welcome without having to risk their lives for their jobs and passions. i know too many disabled makers who have to bow out of conventions with unsafe infection prevention practices
something that i wish the furry fandom didn't have go on, is all the yiff in general. its one reason my dad doesnt like the community is because of that, why is everyone so focused on that aspect? you know i bet about 70% of the fandom has already committed adultery with another furry, i bet even you Spam have done it with someone your not even married to! sure this all goes on in private, but it still happens. this is the biggest reason i'm not really in the fandom anymore, the fandom has become not family friendly in what goes on, all it is at this point is a bunch of gay dopamine hungry in (that) kind of way, people in anthropomorphic animal costumes. DO BETTER.
Well ill say certain cons need to relax on the cv19 rules. Almost was going to be at AO but they wanted you to have all the shots and proof and were no if ands or buts. Kinda ruined my experience hopefuly all cons will relax on this.
@@mrllamaton1873 that’s a small part of the fandom. Most furries are completely sfw and chill. Also, by pornographic content i hope you mean any and ALL nsfw content because if not that would be insanely hypocritical.

The fact that this is the second time I’ve seen you -commenting- spamming hate on this person’s videos is genuinely sad. The real question is, do you have a life?
Ngl this has nothing to do with the fandom itself man youre just complaining about cons. This is the issue i have with the fandom now. Theres such a glorification of fursuits and suiters now to the point if you dont have one you are generally shunned and ignored by the community. This stems to conventions aswell, a large amount of furries who dont have suits do not feel welcome at cons. Hell dude last year there was an incident with a needle at a local con, and the blame was thrown on the "non suiters" as they called them. Its kind of disgusting how little the fandom cares about people for who they actually are. The fandom turned from a community where everyone was welcomed and cherished, to a community full of clout chasers who think that you need to drop thousands on a suit to be a part of said community. This video was pretty sad to me because its a clear example of what the fandom prioritizes now

That's quite scary hahah
The largest con in France this year had 750 attendees but over 1 400 demands. That seems to be a rather big issue in Europe, apparently.
32 seconds…
32 seconds?? Small con?? 😭
@@carliu3573 Lots of furries who want to attend, not enough cons and the few that exists are not big, so hotel rooms gets booked in less than a minute
I just came here to compliment you on your rare choice for a boar furry ♥
Also that hammerhead shark scalie at like 1:10 - just wow!
Thanks! Pigs are fun!
I've seen that hammerhead in a "Guess who is the furry" video, I don't know their name since I only saw a glimpse of it, but yeah.
Cause of the news article thing my family became less agreeable to it
Not knowing the twists and lies they put on it
My intentions is to be a charity furry
I wanna make people smile
Not..ya know
But being good doesnt make HEADLINES
Anyone who's been to florida knows the humidity can get pretty brutal for much of the year, which I imagine would be very uncomfortable to fursuit in
Blfc is in Reno actually, Megaplex is Orlando 🙂
@@SpamBoar oh lol, I can't keep track. Still, I couldn't imagine fursuiting in the summer somewhere like florida, arizona, or texas
You’re a mook😒
Great video, I agree with most if not all of your points
also 3:18 at MFF this year they had a FULLY IMPROVISED musical and it was absolutely hilarious, cons should definitely do more stuff like that, as both a furry and a theater nerd it was great to see actors in the furry fandom
Sounds awesome!
Good point!
We can't wait for 2024 Fur-Eh in the new venue. 2023 Fur-Eh was a blast, and the only feedback I think any of us had was that we may have outgrown that hotel. But that might also just be the memories of the night that 2/3 elevators broke down...
Can’t wait for this year!
That's a great idea!
I went to Denfur and well I had a nice surprise of the medics having to come my first time at a con. Didn’t stop me from going again the next day
2:20 There should be a better way to assign rooms.
“Stop complaining about fursuit prices”
Me with my two dinomask partial suits: “Complain?”
I was a board member at a furry con for 8 years and have volunteered at many.
Agreed!
Great video! I am gonna have to get caught up on some of your stuff, but I am glad to hear that you had fun at Fur-Eh! including the musical. The whole crew worked their collective asses off to make that a reality.
It was amazing! Did you work on that crew? My video “The Minor Problem at Furry Cons” is filmed at Fur-Eh! Thanks!!!
I did not expect the GSR to be in the video
Reno is my home town
IS THAT A HAMMER HEAD SHARK FURSUIT SOMEBODY PLEASE TELL ME WHO OWNS THAT SUIT
You did such a great job on this video. All of the things you mentioned are down-to-earth, realistic opportunities for the fandom to improve.
Thank you I appreciate that!
Here are some smaller cons I know of!
AqutiFur
FurTheMore
Howloween
Fur-eh
FurTheMore is in Crystal City Virginia!
AqutiFur is near Wisconsin, not sure exactly where, my friend knows
And Howloween and Fur-eh are the ones SpamBoar mentioned!
Also Kite Windswept Wanderings shows tons of cons, major ones (BLFC, MFF, AC, etc.) but also smaller ones! I would recommend checking them out!
OMG I saw my shirt on there ñ that's so sad!
I don't think we should give people who but things too much grief though. Afterall, how are people to know?
0:52 on the right side of the screen there’s a battle lock theater cosplay as hatty
i like going to furcons but i went to tff and tfs last year and the panels kinda sucked, i went to denfur and had an amazing time at one of the panels, it was homebrew for alcohol and they told us about it, at mcfc there was one about trains! it was so cool, but the panels at tff and tfs last year were mostly all fetish oriented and sexual in nature to some aspect. it really has gone down hill, even in the dealers den
Ok im going say you guys are adorable. I appreciate what you guys are doing. I ga e a friend who's a furry. But its sad that people dont recognize their just people having fun doing be what they love. My hats off to you guys. And kerp up the good work.
Oops missed some letters. 😅
*Evil stare on america*
A friend hugged you at FC btw and sent me a picture because i'm also a boar. He was a very pink fox :P There need to be more boars.
I love the clips you got from fur eh 2023 I was in that parade
There's no real solution to the reg line problem, bar mailing everyone their con badge, but that opens up a whole other can of worms (con badge can go missing in the post, international post sucks, etc).
furry dancers are so siccccc, i wish there were more dancers* 222🗣🗣🗣
Thanks for sharing Hyena Aganda been a while since I last heard the name. I forgot :(
You’re welcome 😊
It’s hard to crack even 100k subs ;)
@@SpamBoar maybe they just hate the content but idk why 😭
Also i am finally getting back into fursuit dancing
1:28 this headline alone ruins a lot of peoples veiws of us
Agreed
Really don’t care what they think 🙏
- Yeah elevators are always difficult xD
- I absolutely agree about the suites being condusive to parties, and that should be a requirement for getting one. It's what I've done every time I get one!
- YESSSSSSSSSSS more volunteers! Better treatment of staff!
Solid video, many good points and conversation starters. Onto 2024!
Thanks for the feedback!
Amazing Video!! I just found your channel, and I am about to binge watch all of it
Awesome thank you!
Good fortune, luck ,prosperity for you in this new year i wish you 🙂😉✌👍

Ay bore really ok so you from Australian
i hope for n95 mask mandates in a disabling pandemic so more disabled furs can feel comfortable and welcome without having to risk their lives for their jobs and passions. i know too many disabled makers who have to bow out of conventions with unsafe infection prevention practices
something that i wish the furry fandom didn't have go on, is all the yiff in general. its one reason my dad doesnt like the community is because of that, why is everyone so focused on that aspect? you know i bet about 70% of the fandom has already committed adultery with another furry, i bet even you Spam have done it with someone your not even married to! sure this all goes on in private, but it still happens. this is the biggest reason i'm not really in the fandom anymore, the fandom has become not family friendly in what goes on, all it is at this point is a bunch of gay dopamine hungry in (that) kind of way, people in anthropomorphic animal costumes. DO BETTER.
Dont pin him!
Who wants to get up at 10 am for a parade the day after partying???
Exactly!
just use motel 6 for conventions

The fact that this is the second time I’ve seen you -commenting- spamming hate on this person’s videos is genuinely sad. The real question is, do you have a life?
Haha cry about it
Ngl this has nothing to do with the fandom itself man youre just complaining about cons.
