Just replaced my lower wishbones the other day and also tie rod ends with TRW parts. Suspension feels amazing now, no more clunking/squeeking from those ball joints. Really appreciate you posting this video as I used it to help me do the job, cheers!
Great video, Neil. I’ve got all the gear, but I do think i might not be arsed doing this myself; doing this lying on my back looks about as much fun as sticking pins in my eyes!
Well done, I have the 159 2.4 and I hate the lower wishbones, I drive my Alfa in Roman ways and you can believe me, every time there is the same noise problem from lower wishbones.....but anyway I love my Alfa
Just had mine done 1.9jtdm ti, was good before but wow the ride feels sharper, tighter and slighlty more comfort. You can feel more rubber shock absorbtion. originals were 14 years old and still passing mots lol. O.e replacement parts from alfashop, its just not worth putting cheap rubbish on.
I had the problem of cross threading the bolt the first time I did this on my 156. Fortunately I hadn't gone too far in and I was able to re-tap the thread by using a thread cutter starting from the other side. It's a job I really do not enjoy doing. Next time I'll pay someone to do it for me :)
You dont need to disconect drive shaft, upper wushbone and tie rod. Use crow bar to drible out wishbone when you undo nuts and bolts, i changed both month ago🙂
As I said at the beginning there are several ways of doing it I removed it mainly so you can see more in the video and I'm also used to doing them on 147's and old habits die hard lol 👍👍👍👍😀😀😀
Are you telling me that I need to remove just the bolts holding the lower wishbone and I can do the rest with a crow bar? That sounds easy, is this the way what I'm thinking you are saying?
YOU DON T USE THE MANIFACTURER'S TIGHTENING TORQUE FOR THE NUTS... YOU USE THE HAMMER HITTING HARD THE NEWS PARTS... (you can use a wood to hit with the hammer) BUT... YOUR EXPLICATION ARE PERFECT
Thanks for the tutorial. Yet, as I'm considering to replace the rear bushes only, do you have experience with that? Does it require to disassemble just as much? Tia.
Thanks ! Except the expensive genuine part, what wishbone's brand and model would you recommend ? As some of them become noisy only after a few times ...
Hi Neil, thanks for the helpful video - I've had a lot of squeaking from the front suspension for the last 2 months under up/down movement (which went silent last week - bit concerning!) I believe this is likely to be the lower front bushes, is that right? The squeaking is very loud when I turn when parking the car too (159 2.4 sportwagon) - is that also the lower bushes? I'm considering getting poly bushes and fitting them myself - do you expect them to cure the problem and will I need to get a 4 wheel alignment because of the repair? Many thanks for the great content and useful guides..
Hi thanks for this video. Quick question. I followed this and as I was dislodging the ball joint it started leaking pink fluid from what I presume is the steering rack. Do you know what could have happened?
What sort of symptoms would this cause. I'm getting squeaking over bumps and when steering from the near side only. Also how much does this cost so I can get an idea for price
hey mate I've recently bought a brera in need of some front end refurbishment. Is it possible to only replace the rubber bushes on the wishbone or would you recommend replacing it completely?
Allow £400 parts and 3 hours labour. Well thats what it cost me, its a big job but should last another 10 years + Doing this on your back in the drive does not appeal to me.

@@ItaliaAutos I have the bracket with the poly bushes fitted. Just a matter of fitting it. I've heard it's a good upgrade and stiffins the ride and handling a bit.
A new o.e arm with new rubber bushes gives a very tight sharp feel but also a very complant ride. I did consider poly bushes but glad i chose New rubber, mines not a track day machine, just a weekend A &B road toy. Its great. 159 1.9jtdm mapped ti on eibach springs and B6 shocks. Perfect for me.
Smashing alloy parts with a hammer is not a wise thing to do. Buy a joint splitter. Using a hammer can cause fractures or cracks. Very expensive when you later realise you have damaged them. Otherwise good vid.
🤣🤣🤣🤣 Never in 35 years have I had those joints on any Italian car come apart so easily with a wallop of a hammer. I'm suspicious you split them and just tightened them up again for the video 🤔🤔 And I used bigger hammers 😛

They do make a nice differance, a more together feel through the steering.
A job wellworth doing imo
Really good camera angles and everything explained so well
Sylvia Murley thanks. It was a challenge for some of the shots.
This guy convinced me to buy my 159 2.4 auto
Thank you very much 🥇💕
Thank you for another great guide, was planning on doing my driver site as the ball joint is noisy, now I have a great guide to follow.

I paid £186 each for mine

the gearbox side is a funny side :-) I did this yesterday
Hello! Could you please advise which wishbone's bushes should be tightened under a load? Thanks for the video!
Lower wishbone should be tightened under a load or wheel down on 4 column lift.
ball joints usually open easy with a ball joint splitter
Another job well done.
Nice Job ,gone polish my de 147 today leave the professionele Jobs to you hahaha 😊💪👍.

Yes same
@@ItaliaAutos Thx for the swift reply!
Is it same upper arm set up on 166?I have excess camber wearing out tyres on inside. Are there some adjustable bushing available?

whenever your suspension has been worked on, you always want to get the car realligned
Hi mate, great video, thanks. Just want to ask you about this impact? What brand is? Or if you can recommend some good for this job?
You reuse the old screws or you fit new ones since they are angle torqued
Old are fine for second use.

You broke something or your steering rack is broken
@@ItaliaAutos is that fixable or will it likely need replacing. Its a 159 2.0

either upper or lower wishbones

If its cheaper than a new good quality wishbone.

A hammers fine, or a copper mallet, those arms are very heavy duty.
