- In this episode of Alternative dwellings we tour Jason's Van which he gutted completely after finding significant dry rot, he then rebuilt it using modern appliances like an induction cook top, a composting toilet, LED lighting and he even has a bathtub. Jason got into vanlife because he had had bad experiences with landlords and even an illegal price hike on a place he was renting. He saw vanlife a a solution to that problem by providing him with housing freedom while also lowering his work travel expenses and making travel easier.

Yes! No worries about water consumption- plenty of space for bed in rear so you can enjoy unobstructed views out the back doors. Yes, a tub make perfect sense! Almost all van campers have them!
You don't have a need for bathtubs when you do showers
@@emet5042 there isn't any room for a bed in the back. In those vehicles the bed is in the raised roof area above the cab. His sofa is a sofa sleeper. That style of sofa sleeper mechanism has been around for a long time.
@@ryanlevron1972 some people love to soak in a bathtub. Some of us are shower people.
Why not get it if you can
Jason has the right idea. Scumbad landlords that break the laws and then jack up the rents get away with it. Cost of living is at a all time high. I am going to be going back to van life soon myself. Good job to him for the work he did on an older rig.

Motors and transmissions can be replaced in less than a day. Thieves can strip a car down to the frame in less time than a person can take a good nap.

I actually really enjoyed this video I live in a van for about three and a half years now it's about 22 ft from bumper to bumper and his words are 100% true I appreciate this video a lot I love how he said not to chase every thought our mind sometimes is our own enemy specially living in a van we get depressed we have to stay focused and chase our dreams thank you for this video

I've got a Webasto heater in my big truck, and it will run you out at 0 degrees fahrenheit, and I've slept at -15 very comfortably. In a van like that, you would have to put some reflextics over the windows under 10 degrees.
Thanks good to know I've been at -15 but still experience heat loss here unless I have the heater up to 35 then it gets okay but I'm still under a lot of covers

I can't wait to see the 100% finished build (not that any build is ever finished) because this is by far the most unique build I've ever seen and partly (more than partly) due to the van is unique in itself but the layout of the kitchen and the "guest bed" that you may use to switch it up as I would too but wow that sort of loft bed slides out and I'm sure your brain is still working out a way to make it easier or to make the transition from day to night easier but you definitely knocked it out of the park with the tin type of ceiling and lights that you did with the angles to create the allusion of more space especially above your head. Great Job love it and look forward to the next tour when it is finished and I absolutely love your pup and he looks so similar to mine who is a soon to be a 9 yrs old red nose pit bull name King and he is a big sweetheart too!!
I have an '87 dodge ram 350 long bed van. No high top..bummer. but working on glamping it out. Hope to see you down the road some day!
Oh yeah these dogs are the best. And yes I might make handles to help pull it out easier. But since then I've gone to a trifold mattress memory foam

You have a good build philosophy - quality all the way or you regret it later. That is a very nice build, super functional and luxurious for a small van. It looks so modernized now with the fancy kitchen and electrical upgrade! Having the AC on solar when you have a dog, is a must!! No Generator noise to disturb anyone. I have to do that myself and upgrade my entire electrical. Excellent work! Thanks for a great tour.
