the fact this is 8 years down the track, I only discovered this program and I am amazed. I will have to play with it some to get things good but its incredible
Keep seeing people liking this comment, so feel obliged to pass on what I learned - this has been in-house software at the company for years, they just released it to the public, for free. Mystery solved!
hi there, I can't seem to open (or see any thumbnails in the browser) any image, I tried giving the materialize folder all permissions and I downloaded C++ Redistributable, any idea how can I actually make this to work?
someone knows how to fix the "black mesh" problem? i cant preview the full material and instead of appearing grey, the model where the texture applies appears entirely black, please help
What are the P C O and S buttons ? no documentations and I'm supposed to guess by myself, you should add some explanation I think. I won't complain too much, it's still a nice software, good job !

This is amazing! I have had fun messing around with it but am hoping for an easy export into UE4 material. Is this possible? Currently still making a material in UE4 and adding maps generated from materialize. Is there a shortcut?
Hello I just read about it on Reddit. How do I load the first picture to work from I can't seem to see any button that says "open" nor anything but LOAD project that I haven't got yet. How to IMPORT they original photo file to work from to create the desired texture? Thanks
hi, you have to put the directory that you got from the zip file in whatever place of your computer but the PROGRAMS FILES directory. i had that problem and solve it that way. in the web site they said so. you it work for you.
@@rafaelblancoNET Hi, thanks for the tip, I found it on the website too. Some pictures seems to be available, but some appears with an interrogation point, unavailable to use :( any other idea ?
I reinstalled the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable, installed Materialize to the Documents folder. Set the application to have administrator rights and its working now. Excellent little program for material editing!
After he tiled one of the maps, he somehow made all the other maps tile in the same way by clicking on some button, but he didn't slow down to describe what he did there. Did anyone see how it was done?
8:17 "When you hit 'Set Maps' it's going to tile all of these maps and you can't undo this, so make sure that you are happy with your changes before you click it." In the Tiling Texture Maker, make the required adjustments, then click the [Set Maps] button to apply those tile settings to all the textures.
I can't open any image but I recent find another version of the program and is great I can work without problem, the offical version not work for me. Download from here github.com/maikramer/Materialize/releases
When I saved the Materialize project all texures saved automatically in the folder with the project, I think. But also, under the texture's little preview pic, there are four buttons. Press the "S" one to save a texture
The problem with photo to height normal map software is that the photo makes everything look blobby mainly because you're not dealing with real geometry.
I think I prefer to use Photoshop to do all this. Materialize relies on fortuitous shading in the original image, so some will be suitable, others impossible. Photoshop (or similar programs) give you total control on a per-pixel level which is what you really need for this kind of stuff. The lack of documentation and mouse-over explanations of things like “P,C,O,S” is woeful. Are we supposed to use telepathy to figure these things out? Goodbye Materialize.

2023. I'm here after years of crazy bump. Great job!!
blew me away! gonna try this program and note that im sceptic about programs like these. Great job! Thank you
Seven years later, and now people are discovering this tool due to AI conquering the world.
Great stuff, love the extra tweaking ability and the built-in tiling generator, makes it superior to CrazyBump (which I've been using for years).
I am looking at the date.. WHAT !!!!!
Agreed! Thought it had only just been released..?
