  • “Out of sight, out of mind.” Why so cruel, Aristotle? Three years ago, Ian watched in horror as his friend convulsed violently and fell to the ground. He had never before witnessed a grand mal seizure, let alone heard the term. As the crowd huddled around his friend’s body, Ian screamed, "What can I do to help?" - and simultaneously counted his blessings. This past fall, Stein’s world changed when he was diagnosed with focal epilepsy. In this TEDx Talk, Ian delves into life with seizures and how he has navigated stepping into a pair of shoes he never imagined he would be walking in. Ian Stein has attended The Masters School since the fifth grade. He spent his junior year living in Zaragoza, Spain, through a program called School Year Abroad (SYA), where he improved his Castellaño and perfected his siesta-taking abilities. Now he strives to destigmatize, demystify and raise awareness about all things seizures and epilepsy. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

I was diagnosed with Epilepsy when I was 2 years old and had my Seizure Tumor surgically removed when I was 8.
My Mom once told me that I had a Seizure in Kindergarten and the School called my Mom who was at the Army Base at the time to take me home.
Both my Parents were in the Army National Guard for most of my Childhood.

Thanks for sharing your story Ian. Medication and lifestyle can help with epilepsy but to heal living with it I deeply feel having self love, acceptance and compassion for oneself is the ultimate goal. Every cell reacts to how we think and feel ❤
