In my revision of this movie Ted lives in a post apocalyptic esque village. He has a sick sister whose asthma is exasperated by the crap air quality. He hears legends of the Once-ler and goes to meet him. The flashback scenes are mostly the same. The present day frame story will explore just how bad a world without trees is. People are constantly sick and coughing and Ted's sisters life expectancy gets lower every day. Ted gets the seed and plants it in his backyard with his sister staying close to it as it grows. The tree's air makes her asthma more bearable and through the coming years Ted and his sister plant more trees around the village. When Ted is old he is visited by the Lorax who thanks him for fixing the Once-ler's mistake.
I mean, I feel like the whole point of the movie is that they need trees but they don’t know it, I feel like people misinterpret the villains, the big Corp midget is not the villain, he was the one to keep the town stable without trees so in a sense he saved everyone, you can’t blame him for selling people shit they want to buy, the onceler ins’t the villain either because he didn’t have bad intentions, he was just extremely retarded and didn’t replant the damn trees, the real villains are the consumers that just sat back and let it happen, the point of the movie was the consumer realizing “shiiiit we have no trees, what the fuck isn’t that what we need for oxygen and breathing and all that stuff? One of my most useless hobbies as a writer is to try and think of how I might rewrite bad animated movies. I like to challenge myself by seeing how something could have been improved. As one example, The Emoji Movie, I think the main kid should have been mute so that the emotional bond between him and the emojis could have been greater. The emojis themselves should have had trouble communicating with one another due to their 'one job' thing but broken out of their limited connection in parallels with the boy who eventually overcame the hurdle of communicating with the girl he liked as someone who does not have a conventional voice. Sure, I'm just an amateur and that concept is probably dumb, but regardless. When I look at a movie like this, I feel like it could have had such a powerful narrative, even stretched out. Have the Onceler's backstory parallel O'Hare's, in a sense. Have O' Hare ask the kid about the harder things to navigate in terms of environmentally sound ideas. What about all the people that would lose their jobs? What about the people who need space for homes to be built or the critical items that rely on the material being gathered with medicinal or practical needs that have no alternatives? Swap the kid's motivation to being an inventor of sorts. Someone curious about nature and science. Have his bike me something he built so that when the seed is given to him, he can present alternative ideas or at least open a dialogue with O' Hare and the Onceler's arc can complete in a satisfying way. He failed the Lorax, but he gave this kid the opportunity to be better than him. Better than all of them were in the past. It could've worked. I really believe that.
*”Old man gives young boy his seed, greedy man-child chases young boy for old man’s seed. Danny devito comes from heaven to greet Old man for giving young boy his seed”*
I honestly don't know why Taylor Swift girl isn't the main character as her motives seem less greedy and she seems to actually care about the trees. Edit: For people saying that she couldn't grow as a character the movie itself didn't make Ned grow as a character himself. Throughout the story he only came back to the Once-ler's house just to get into Audrey's pants. He sorta cared about the trees when Audrey decided to help him plant the single tree seed. Plus when the two get the tree seed Audrey has a more excited reaction as Ned had a more meh reaction to it. The movie could've told us details like how Audrey knew about trees, how they looked like, and what they did since she was the only one who knew they produced oxygen.
It's because Ned had room to grow as a character... Yeah he started out misguided, but grew to care, and that's more interesting than unchanging motivations

No lasting consequences
I mean, even if it was cuz his mom pressured him or if he didnt understand the damage he caused, I still understood his actions did still end up causing a lot of damage. In fact, I feel it hits the mark more that he feels bad when the animals are homeless instead of not gaf. Since I'm sure most children aren't like "I could never be so heartless to knowingly cause the destruction of cute animals home, I can't relate" having the person who did it feel bad makes it seem more relatable
Things I'd change.. -Make the Lorax actually try harder to stop the Onceler and family -Make it darker like the original film/story was pretty damn dark. Whenever the last tree falls it should look grosser and depressing -Make Thneedville also look polluted gross and artificial - contrast this by the beauty of nature in the Oncler flashback -Less thirsty main protagonist, maybe he genuinely wants to save the planet because the town sucks and he finds comradery with the girl character -Less cringey songs -Have the Oncler more of a morally grey character rather than just being 'corrupted' by his family -Bringin back the Lorax at the end was kinda cheap, give a glimmer of hope but don't show it.. it would've had a bigger impact -We didn't need the O'Hare guy at all
I'd love that. The original story had better music, and a better character. Onceler had empathy and compassion for the Lorax and this movie didnt even stick to the story
I watched the original movie/musical (the 1972 one) in 5th grade. The only thing I remembered from it was the lorax picking up his butt and then flying away. No other part of it was remembered, just that he "picked up his butt and flew away."
Dude why do they say the word “woah” so much in this movie? Like seriously try and count how many times they say it. You’d probably pass out before you got past the opening credits.
The song they were originally gonna have for the Onceler called “biggering” is soooooooo good! I really recommend anyone who hasn’t should give it a listen. They removed the song because it was too dark for children for being a bit too real about corporate greed. Which honestly the movie really should’ve had even tho in comparison to “how Bad can I be” isn’t as catchy. I personally think “biggering” suits the message of the original book soooooo much better than “how bad can I be”. One of my favourite things about “biggering” is the fact that the background music “biggers” as it goes on to co-side with the Oncelers growing corporate greed. But yeah in short, Check out the songs they removed from the final movie they are actually good and have great messages based off the original book lol

I might be a little late, but, I recently learned that there was a cut song for the Once Ler called "Biggering" that got replaced by How bad can I be. I listened to it and I was genuinely shocked at how good it was. It wouldn't have saved the movie, but it at the very least would've improved the Once-Ler

@@redpanda6497 The Lorax THE GOOD ONE!!!!!

ThatOneTomatoGuy yes, and it was Fantasia compared to this ingrown toenail of a movie.
Things I'd change..
-Make the Lorax actually try harder to stop the Onceler and family
-Make it darker like the original film/story was pretty damn dark. Whenever the last tree falls it should look grosser and depressing
-Make Thneedville also look polluted gross and artificial - contrast this by the beauty of nature in the Oncler flashback
-Less thirsty main protagonist, maybe he genuinely wants to save the planet because the town sucks and he finds comradery with the girl character
-Less cringey songs
-Have the Oncler more of a morally grey character rather than just being 'corrupted' by his family
-Bringin back the Lorax at the end was kinda cheap, give a glimmer of hope but don't show it.. it would've had a bigger impact
-We didn't need the O'Hare guy at all
I'd love that. The original story had better music, and a better character. Onceler had empathy and compassion for the Lorax and this movie didnt even stick to the story
-Obviously keep How Bad Can I Be because that song actually slaps (without any context and just as a song)
And have Danny Devito sing!

The alternative song that “how bad can I be” replaced was titled “biggering” and it slaps so much harder.
I think both songs should have been in the song
Ed Helms voiced the Onceler. He has a really good singing voice, even if the lyrics don’t live up to it.
James Holcomb he was also Andy from the office
That's one of the reasons that I really like The Once-ler, Ed Helms is a talented guy :)
