    Is it okay to keep gasoline in it while not in use?
    And, what is the best recommended place to store it? Our garage gets very hot (Atlanta, GA).

    • @TheFixerHomeRepair
      @TheFixerHomeRepair  3 года назад +3

      Hey, Ivan! I hate storing gas too! I will prob leave about a quarter tank in the generator with the fuel line shutoff. I figure worst case scenario, the gas goes bad, I can fill the rest with new gas and it should run after it mixes. When I do store my cans I store them in my shed with the little vent open on the can and the window in my shed open. Please note, all of this might not be the “correct” way. It is just what I do.

    I do not own a generator, yet but when I do get one I want an open inverter generator in the 4.0 KW range.
    Enclosed generators might have a slight boost when it comes to initial sound dampening but when the engine revs up the sound difference between enclosed and open generators becomes negligible. The real difference comes in cost and maintenance. Less plastic, less price and easier to get to the parts.

    A 10KW automatic standby generator is something I've considered getting a number of times (usually after a good storm and the power goes out), but when they upgraded the local substation for all the new construction it became less of a concern. BUT, my wife and I will retire to a beachfront home located on Hood Canal, and services are a bit dicey. The generator will be one of those things installed before winter the first year, but I've also considered also getting a powerwall to go along with it. Of course, the very first thing we'll install is a whole-house water filter. It's one of those things I can't believe my MIL didn't have done when she had the place built.

    Premium gas? I see this all the time, people think that because it says "Premium" it's better than regular, is not "better" it's different. The levels of gas are for levels of engines. Some need 87 octane and others need 92 octane. The difference is that cars that need 92 octane have a higher compression ratio (which is why they "knock" if you use lower octane gas). In fact, using higher octane in engines that do not require it means that the engine does not burn all the fuel which will leave carbon deposits in the engine. I'm sure if you check with some fuel engineers (which I did years ago) they will say the same thing.

      The only benefit for small engines would be ethanol free gas

    • @LesDeplorables
      @LesDeplorables 10 месяцев назад +1

      yes! Using alcohol-free engine's like this. The gas should also have stable in it in case you leave it set for a long time. Always run the carburetor out of gasoline before you store it

    • @Jackofalltrades196
      @Jackofalltrades196 9 месяцев назад

      In my opinion the higher octane is better for the small engines, because the ethanol is 0 to minimal and the rings in the engine are smaller and the ethanol does damage because it dosent burn as hot so why small engines fail mostly is because of gas with ethanol that’s why he is recommending higher octane gas ethanol free is ideal for longer engine life.

    I just tried mine this weekend and it drips oil out of the crankcase housing. This is coming from the opposite side of the oil dipstick. The other side is 100% open with no cap or anything in mine.... in other words it's a spot if you put the dipstick on the opposite side of the engine... except that site is not threaded and on mine it's wide open and any vibration makes oil kind of splatter out

  • @gentrybrown9034
    @gentrybrown9034 2 месяца назад +1

    Great video!. However there is one bit of information I'd like to correct. Premium fuel is only better if you're running it in a high compression / high rpm engine. This is because the only difference between high and low octane fuel is the resistance to pre mature ignition or "detonation" in the cylinder. This generator is likely uses a low compression engine so using high octane / premium fuel in it will have exactly zero effect on the performance or longevity of the engine.
    HOWEVER! using ethanol free fuel makes a huge impact on the life span of carbureted engines. Fuel containing ethanol absorbs moisture from the air and if left in the tank for long periods of time will corrode and destroy your carburetor. I would go as far as saying using gas containing ethanol #1 killer of small engines. Trust me go ethanol free for anything carbureted!!!!

    Premium gasoline acutally has MORE ethanol in it, and there reason we have the different grades today is for cars that have higher compression or not.... the correct fuel for most yard equipment is ethanol free gasoline which is usually 90 octane. Ethanol in gasoline in the formulation used in the USA causes premature corrosion and seal failure, as well as water absorption. Other countries have switched to hydrous ethanol + gasoline and this actually has much less of these effects but as far as I know we haven't in the US. Ethanol in the US is used as an octane booster in poor quality distillate fuels.

    The ac line frequency only effects inductive or capacitive loads like anything that has an ac induction motor. "Sensitive devices" like TVs, computers do not give a shit about frequency or distortion, waveform.. all they care about is the rms voltage & if it's in their oparating range it will function without any problem. Many modern heatpumps have inverters in them which is a very similar module like the one in this generator. The stator here makes 3 phase ac at veriable voltage and frequency, the inverter module immediately takes that ac and turns into dc then it has large capacitor to smooth that rectified dc then it had a H bridge of igbt or mosfets that is controlled by an spwm generator and it makes the ac with really high frequency square wave and pulse width modulation, that voltage is filtered by a choke and capacitor to make it smooth sinewave. Likewise in inverter air conditioners the input mains is converted to dc and then same spwm and this time a 3 phase array of 6 fets or igbts are used to make 3phase ac and this time the swpm frequency is adjusted by the thermostat to increase or decrease compressor rpm thus adjusting cooling power.

This company also manufacturers other products and told me that more could follow for a simple review. This was several years ago when a 10,000 mah charger was the largest amount you could buy. So gladly I agreed! The first unit that they sent me was DOA so the company quickly forwarded me another. I liked the charger but the representative from the companies promotion department was furious that I had mentioned that the item was sent to me for free for a review and the fact that the first one sent was DOA, despite a great review. They not only didn't post that review on their website but I no longer received any other new products for testing. I currently have other products that I have purchased from this company including a 26,800 mah charger and a Bluetooth speaker. Both products are excellent.
