You just blew up my brain with this video. All the articles, books, videos, not one single "teacher" mentioned the shoulder action. Incredible!! Why? I'm just so glad you did sir. I'm sure this is what will help me get to where I can swing better . Thank You.
I've seen MILLIONS of swing videos in the last two years. Nobody knows how to expose dysfunction like Bobby Lopez.. It's blaringly real... I've just caught wind of these videos in the last 15 minutes.. and already so much has been taken to mind as to why, and how. Thank you.
I know Im asking randomly but does anybody know a way to log back into an Instagram account..? I was stupid lost the login password. I love any help you can offer me!
Keep your head back over your right foot, "live behind the line" (another Bobby Lopez youtube line)--pure genius instruction. I don't "have" it, but at least I now "get" it, so there's hope to get a lot better.
Bobby, you did a great job with this video. I'm a retired PGA pro,50years,My mentor Gardner Dickinson ,told me Hogan's tip was the lead shoulder moved up and around
Bobby. Doc here. Miss your cackle from the Cahoon days and radio show. (Sad about Cahoon). My Mrs., son & I took lessons from David for years. Now with Eddie. I’m old now and miss you and those days. I pray you’re still well.
So true. I'm thinking of how Harvey Penick used to tell his students to stay back if they wanted the ball to go anywhere at all. I wonder how many people don't understand just how deadly it is to move past the right release point (or "swing center," if you prefer, or "past the ball"). You're so right in saying that once that happens, it's all just an attempt to save the shot, and it can't be anywhere near your actual speed potential.
+stephen f: Also: Almost everybody would improve immediately if they followed the "hold the shoulders back" or "get the club to the ball before the shirt buttons get there" advice. Hardly anybody below the level of pro or top amateur has any idea this is a critical swing element -- that in a powerful swing the shoulders and chest stay well back until very late in the downswing. Also really good: Geiberger's concept of the "one fast moment in your swing," which you're getting at with your observations on how so many players dissipate that one fast moment early in the downswing, then are essentially holding on from that point forward, and the club _can't_ be moving at its highest speed by the time it gets to the ball.
I gotta give it to you, Viejo. There is superb teaching going on with this video, which gave me several SERIOUS light bulb moments. I even subscribed. :) If you're ever in the Seattle area, give me a shout. Keep marching down that road of yours.
Tried this today on my last 2 shots in my round. Hit the best driver and 6 hybrid I ever hit. It was an incredible combination of high and long. Thanks Bobby :-)
One more thing, just to further confirm what you're saying here: You may be aware of how Nicklaus, in his first autobiography The Greatest Game of All, says that this "left shoulder up, right shoulder under and through" thing was his most frequent thought for beginning the downswing (commensurate with some effort to get weight flowing to the left side -- but _absolutely_ while keeping his head and center back). It just struck me how similar what you're saying is to what the greatest major championship player in history said was critical in his development as a young player. And when you look at photos of the stupendously powerful young Nicklaus, you can't miss it.
LOL!!! What you teach is so contrary to what we have been taught Transfer, lead with the hips and let the arms follow etc.!. However, with the video I certainly cant refute the facts and details you present. All of your vids are so full of great information along with a great teaching style! Thanks again for your sharing. God Bless You!
+1cleandude 1. "Transfer" is good, but not nearly as extreme as most people think it is. It's more of a little bump from somewhere around the inside of the right thigh to the inside of the left thigh, before the left hip starts rotating. It's not a big heave from right side to left side. 2. "Leading with the hips" isn't so bad if the hips are doing the right thing, if the move isn't too extreme, and if it's not done in a way that leaves the arms and club behind all the way through to the end of the swing. _Starting down_ with the hips is different from trying to drag the club through with them. I'd be interested to see what Sr. Lopez says about this, too. But as a former pro (playing and teaching), that's what I'd say, anyhow. Also, if by "let the arms follow" you're referring to that "passive arms" idea, again it's true to an extent, but not to an extreme, and only at certain stages of the swing. It's true that you don't want to throw the club _only_ with hands and arms from the top of the swing, and many times on a perfect swing it'll feel like your arms and/or hands are "passive" in the sense that you did whatever you did without being consciously aware of trying to make them do anything, more a sensation of power flowing _through_ them instead of coming _from_ them. But the only part of the body that can "swing" in a golf swing is the arms. Then you get a second swing from the wrist joints down to the clubhead, which forms a flail (like a grain flail or nunchakus, it multiplies force tremendously). But the part of the body that "swings" in the swing _is_ the arms, and if they're going to do it with some speed, they've got to catch up and pass the rest of the body at some point, or it's a drag instead of a swing, and you end up not being able to drag the club any faster than the middle of your body can go. Which, as Sr. Lopez both says and implies, is no way to get any speed into the swing.
Very interesting points - especially the left shoulder drops. Now the question is: do we still follow the down swing sequence (i.e. from the ground up) but pay more attention to the left shoulder or we need to start with upper body?
Bobby: I have been making great progress with your help. But I an curious about your comment regarding game improvement clubs. As you stated, the game improvement clubs make it hard to hit it off bent grass and tight lies. Can you explain why game improvement clubs make it tough to hit good shots under these conditions? Mike
BobbyYou the man. Question. When I stay on right side like you say i'm hitting it clean up to an 8 iron but club seems to bottom out early once in awhile at 6 iron. How do you move bottom of swing forward while staying onsides. Am I missing something.?Thanks for all of your videos .
Matt, The only way I can tell what's going on with your sing is for you to send a video of it front and down line. Email your video to bobbylopez@quickfixgolf.com
Hi bobby Do you notice a pattern of players nose and chin pointing to ground nearer the right foot (or tip of cap) From what I can see even if head was over right foot but the tip of the cap or nose was pointing past ball nearer left foot then there is trouble even those changes the head is onside
Hi Sir Bobby, I have similar issues at impact my hips are square, left shoulder slightly open and slightly up, arms slightly bent.I am turning my left hip and yet still square at impact. my hips clear after impact. Balls go O.K. So, are you suggesting, I should extend my chest by hanging back by keeping my head back....and more left shoulder up and back motion? Thanks.
The only way to answer your question properly is for you to send in a video of your swing. Molinari has very little hip turn and won a major. Go to www.quickfixgolf.com/pages/free-online-golf-lesson
This business of lag is overstated. If your wrists are not flexible enough or your hands are too large your lag will be limited. You can increase it by changing your left hand grip but like for like the player with the more flexible wrists doesn't have to contrive it; they're just fortunate. Muscles cam be stretched, but not ligaments, unless they are damaged!
Bobby Lopez I said "overstated", not "over rated". I also said it needs natural flexibility to generate lag like Sergio or Hogan. Not everyone has that flexibility. You can make a grip change and get more angle but your ligaments are what is going to limit you. Sergio said of his lag, it's natural and has been there all his life .... Good mechanics and a stronger left hand grip will produce your maximum lag but I don't see the point of looking for it .... or trying to teach it directly ..... except maybe to teach a grip that is a hinge that doesn't try to muscle the club.
Forgot to mention that Lopez is right, but these are basic swings and the mechanics are the result of the swings. Feel the weight of the club and swing it at the target.
Great stuff, went out to my net and it worked right away. Eureka. To bad after 30 years of golf, to finally understand. Pro Golf teachers are just terrible, stealing people's $$. Thanks Bobby!
Today I tried doing what Bobby suggested after a long time trying the early weight forward thing (with fat shots being frequent) and really nailed the iron shots when I got it right. Left shoulder on top of the ball FTW. Just watch the pro golfers for confirmation.
This is clearly the worst and most misleading interpretation of what creates lag in a golf swing. The first move in the downswing is transferring the weight forward and down and posting up on to front foot. When done correctly, this weight transfer to the front foot creates a recoil and causes the head to move back. This weight transfer creates a pulling motion in the left arm which prevents casting and maintains the lag.
this is why us amateurs get fed up with teachers....you've just undone what every other teacher says! for years teachers have said - get your weight on the lead side, pull down and lead with the lead shoulder....blah blah
Toby, I feel your pain! It is very frustrating. Each golfer will or can have an opposite reaction or feeling to a give move in the golf swing. Today we have tools like the pressure mat that proves the foot pressure heads to the trailing foot on the downswing. If you're concerned about your swing take a video and send it to us free and we'll have a look. quickfixgolf.com
This has been human nature for millennia, have any of you ever skipped rocks across a pond? Lag is the most overused word in golf today. Lag is nothing more than a natural reaction to a proper swing. If you over think the mechanics of the swing you will suck... If you want a natural feeling swing swing a baseball bat for a while, then feel the same thing with your golf clubs. do not over think it, it will kill your game! Watch Phil Mickelson's Secrets of the Short Game videos and practice, practice and practice some more.

I think you're the only one who truly understands the swing and is able to explain it. Glad I found you. Thanks :-)

Great methodology. Head over the right foot. Weight shift from centrifugal force. New "feels" I'll work on, thanks Bobby.

What a great video!!! This video made my day!! Have more speed in practice after watching this. Thanks!
Thanks for the tips you are a very excellent teacher I hope to see you one day as a new student keep doing what you doing you are great!!
I took three lessons from Bobby this past summer - he teaches this exactly, and it works.
Thanks Clive! Merry Christmas!

Thank you for this, Bobby! I scored 2-under today using this tip. First time to go under par.
Hey Bobby, nice job! Maybe next time you can explain how ball position effects body movements. Ball back vs ball forward in stance = integral factor.
Tried this today on my last 2 shots in my round. Hit the best driver and 6 hybrid I ever hit. It was an incredible combination of high and long. Thanks Bobby :-)
Bobby, love your coaching and advice...been working on your drills...and sharing with friends! Thanks!!!!
Thanks for watching Michael! Merry Christmas!
Shoulders as the swing center - great! Greetings from Paris/France
Oui Oui! Merci for watching!
Working away hard at this. When it clicks we are going to Vegas, Lopez.
This video is on the money. Well done!
Fantastic video Bobby! Working hard on Ben Crenshaw swing style, so smooth! 👍
excellent a Bobby!!!! great info

Start downswing with hips and then let upper body "uncoil"
I just tried this withouta club omg wow game changer whole swing was different
This makes total sense!
Bobby, I have found the turning tilt drill, but not the 2 o'clock one.
I couldn’t find either of the two drills. Any advice?

Hi bobby than' sur for these drills. I Will Troy em. Cya.
These left shoulder applies to all irons? Because these are all Woods and Driver

Great vids by the way
And why keep your eye on the ball is the worst advice ever
People try to get their eyes over the ball
Thanks
It all started with Nicklaus although I believe Snead did it too? Thanks for the kind comments.
You're right Aaron! Of course nothing is always but it sure seems to be constant among the better players.
Can you tell me what golf video analysis software you used on this video?
