  • The content of these videos is current. Very seldom does someone know what to expect when doing the vehicle inspection portion of the skills test from section 11 in the CDL drivers manual for your CDL license? A VEHICLE INSPECTION FOR DAILY OPERATION OF A COMMERCIAL VEHICLE WILL BE MORE EXTENSIVE AND INCLUDE SEVERAL MORE AREAS
    This Video series is for those who want to learn how the CDL test is administered. (watch in sequence) It's your responsibility to learn the inspection. Somehow the Suspension portion was omitted and may have occurred during editing. I've now corrected that and posted the Spring portion. It's titles Engine inspection #1 continued, Suspension portion.

    The spring suspension is not in video. To really understand this better use the mouse and left click on Mikes face up above a little ways and go to the videos tab, click on the entire inspection list all 6 videos. You can watch them all in order to help run through it.

      The Playlist does include the spring inspection as #1 continue. it's less than 1 minute because somehow it was edited out of the first video. I discovered it much later after I posted the original video. I couldn't put it back in so I posted it as a separate video. There are 6 inspections and I cover them all along with the overview that the examiner will read prior to you doing the test. You can also ask any question you want if you're not clear about something, With the short video on the springs there are now 7 videos in the series. Thanks for commenting!

    Thanks for posting these videos. I was wondering what all was involved in getting a class A CDL. I am confident now with some training that I could do this.

    • @mikelogan99CDLClassAskillstest
      @mikelogan99CDLClassAskillstest  6 лет назад

      You have to pass the skills test, You also have to get a Class A CDL learners permit and a DOT Physical by an approved doctor. You can go to FMCSA.DOT.GOV and get all of this information. Online you can enter your questions into the search bar. From there you have to study to pass the written test for the permit. Next learn how to do the vehicle inspection, the backing manuvers and then learn how to drive the truck well enough and safe enough maintaining control at all times for the road test. I'm available for questions, email mikelogan99@gmail.com

      Mike Logan Hello, thanks for the very fast reply! I was not expecting to hear back from you! I am thinking about going through a company that offers training school and driving for them after. I seen US Express has a few ads for fully paid training. Can you offer any thoughts on something like that? Thank you very much for your time!

    • @mikelogan99CDLClassAskillstest
      @mikelogan99CDLClassAskillstest  6 лет назад

      I try to answer as quickly as i can, That's a real easy way to get started but you have to commit to drive for them for quit some time, perhaps a year and if you don't like that company and quit you'll still have to pay them back for the training. You may not make the kind of money you need to with that arrangment. I don't know where you're from but do research and consider paying your own tuition. That way your a free agent and can work where you want. Try to get tuition assistance from the state. Ask about those options. Private schools are a good option but may be pricey and check Vo Tech centers. I lived in a travel trailer for 6 weeks when I went because it was 150 miles from home. Back in 1980 it cost $600 from Bradford union area Vo-tech center in Starke Florida. I think there still doing the program.

    In Nebraska, you cannot use a mallet to check tire pressure. You must use a pressure gauge

    • @mikelogan99CDLClassAskillstest
      @mikelogan99CDLClassAskillstest  3 года назад

      It states the same thing in Colorado. It states in the CDL manual, “ if you simply kick the tire or use a mallet to check for inflation you will not get credit” The video is approaching five years old and there may be parts that need to be updated. The test changes every couple of years. The video series is an example of what the test will look like but it is each individual‘s responsibility to read the CDL manual. The test is based on the information in the CDL manual and not this video series. Thanks for the comment!

      @@HeartPumper Sorry about the late response, I'm retired and don't work as an instructor or tester anymore. I have a great relationship with Sage truck driving School in Grand Junction, Colorado and get updates about testing procedures approximately every two years. Headquarters in Denver recertifies all of the third party testers in the state and that should happen soon. I have one Update video that I posted about two years ago and I'll post another one when the updates are available. Thank You!

    Hey mike thanks for the videos they are very helpful. How are you suppose to inspect disc brakes?

    • @mikelogan99CDLClassAskillstest
      @mikelogan99CDLClassAskillstest  6 лет назад

      You would inspect the Air lines, The Brake chambers, the Calipers and Rotors plus the hardware. Inspecting Disc Brakes is very similar to Drum Brakes, I've not included Disc Brakes in my videos but if you're testing in a truck equipped with Disc Brakes I would refer you to the RUclips videos that will help you with the Inspection procedures for your specific type of vehicle. Thank you!

  • @mystrodds

    Good Evening, I have a question for you. During the in cab air brake test, would I have to turn the engine off if the vehicle is not an manual drive truck? Thanks for your time.

    • @mikelogan99CDLClassAskillstest
      @mikelogan99CDLClassAskillstest  6 лет назад +1

      Yes, test one is the air leak test and you want a full charge of air for that and the engine does need to be off. If the engine was running the compressor would continue to build air and you wouldn't know if you had an air leak. Both valves need to be released, (pushed in) With a manual you can put the transmission in gear or chock the wheels to hold the vehicle in place. If you're testing a truck with an automatic you need to chalk the wheels. Do the other two tests with the engine off also, Best of luck to you!

    Hey Mike, is there a specific sequence the examiner expects you to start the inspection process? For example, if you get the coupling system and trailer. Do i have to start with the trailer first then coupling? or it does not matter?

    • @mikelogan99CDLClassAskillstest
      @mikelogan99CDLClassAskillstest  2 года назад +1

      Good question, the examiner will read the instructions to you that explains what portion of the vehicle he wants you to inspect. There is a specific sequence and the examiner will inform you of what that is. You don’t have to come up with your own way of doing it.

    How many points can you get on the inspection before you fail it. For example, how many object would you have to miss to fail.

    • @mikelogan99CDLClassAskillstest
      @mikelogan99CDLClassAskillstest  4 года назад +1

      The three required air brake tests must be performed 100% correct or that is an automatic failure. Everything else in the inspection is based on a point system and you must have 30 points or less to pass.

      I can't speak for every state, AAMVA "American association of Motor vehicle Administrators" is the organization that administers the CDL testing program for all states and they strive to be consistent from one state to the next. There will possibly be minor differences not major. If you can master all of the skills in the video series I know for sure you can pass any test that is given to you from any state.
