Sorry to hear of your daughter’s passing. I lost an infant brother years ago. I get it. Bach composed an extraordinary piece here. I always sing it the original German. The lyrics are such a beautiful offering to our Lord and Savior.
When I was a boy I qualified for one year of free piano lessons, which I refused because at the time my interest were football and video games. How I regret that decision, I know it's never too late to learn but if had taken those lessons I would be playing wonderful music like this. Live and learn.
It gets harder to take piano lessons when you're older because of 1) work 2) family 3) free time 4) physical limitations 5) mental acuity. Take the lessons while you're young! Forget football: it'll only wreck your knees!
My mom taught piano in our living room in the 60s and 70s. As the last of her 7 children were in high school (i was the youngest) she finally had some time to take some organ lessons, which she had always wanted to learn. I remember her playing this piece over and over. The feet were what she had to figure out. She passed away just a few years later when I was in college. This piece will always bring a tear to my eye. Thanks for showing the foot work.
Watching someone play the pipe organ never ceases to amaze me. I cannot even begin to fathom the amount of practice it must take to get both of your feet to do something different while both hands are doing something different, and then jumping between keys and reading music. My brain could never do that much at once, lol.
i guess im asking the wrong place but does anyone know of a trick to get back into an instagram account..? I was dumb forgot the login password. I appreciate any tips you can give me.
@Royal Trevor I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site thru google and Im waiting for the hacking stuff atm. Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
my beautiful wife of 21 years walked down the aisle to this the lovely organist struggled more use to Handel but made a great effort My wife looked radiant Im such a lucky man
Agreed, the tempo is excellent. For my money, many popular recordings and videos of this composition are rushed! Mr. Marshall's rendition has a very pleasing ebb and flow. Why race to the end of such beautiful music?
Luxuriate in the beauty of the piece. Tempo is perfect! I think this pace also allows the ear to better hear the different levels of what's being played. The faster versions sound convoluted.
*🇮🇳✝️ Bridal marching music. Lovely and no words to express my gratitude. The organist Dough Marshall runs his hands so softly and effortlessly. Marvelous piece of music ! 🎹🎵🎹*
This is my favorite piece of music After hearing this the first time in 1970, ,played by the late E.Power Biggs, I fell in love with classical music and the organ. I have played this piece of music for so many weddings, and for church services. My dear friend, the late Virgil Fox, played this for me in a private organ recital he gave at a friend's church. Thank you for this beautiful arrangement of my favorite piece of music. Beautifully done.
When I was in high school, every Monday morning we went into the auditorium for service listening to our chaplain’s organ. I love and miss this tempo☺⭐️高校時代、月曜は講堂礼拝。柴田先生がこの曲をこのようなテンポで演奏されるのを聞きながら、整列入場したのを懐かしく思い出します🎹
This is where Bach is one or the greatest classical composer. You can play his art work on every kind of known instruments even on our time Instruments...
Love how well you combine the Vox Humana, Vox Celeste and tremulant to imitate the parts of this Bach cantata that a choir or soloist would sing. Bach composed this for Sunday service as he had to compose cantatas for Sunday service every week as the Music Director
I heard a loud version of this in a church in Italy, The Reverb and Acoustics were so good that I had goose pimples and a lump in my throat!!!! Beautiful
Flawless! What a wonderful rendition. It was exactly what I needed to hear on a frustrating Saturday night trying to finish my message for tomorrow. Your playing gave my soul peace. Thank you.
Thanks Doug for a beautiful rendition of this great organ piece. My father was an organist and your interpretation is very reminiscent of his.. Many thanks...
Yes it sure is a great bit of music for one to just sit down and listen to it being played very well on that great looking organ they are sure lucky to have in that church in Wheeling, WV. The guy playing that organ is doing a excellent job, thank you for allowing us to listen to your playing, and all the very best my friend from Tahakopa Valley NZ
Hey Doug, liebe Grüße aus Deutschland. Ganz wundervoll gespielt, die Registerwahl, die Orgel, Du, ganz wunderbar. So einfühlsam gespielt. Meister Bach wäre hoch erfreut. Ich hoffe noch sehr viel von Dir hören zu dürfen. Kim A. C. Andersen
Look at that organ. -Drools.- I'd love to get my hands and feet on that thing for just five minutes - even if I'd barely know how to work it. This guy's a pro!
@@traditionalfood367 Okay, (bad) jokes aside, I didn't have time to properly answer, so here goes. This beautiful piece of music is frequently played either with the organ or piano before the wedding ceremony begins and people are being led to their respective pews. Well, in Anglican/Church of England ceremonies at any rate. When you enter a church, it is a solemn and respectful moment, and that is the mood before a wedding. Celebratory music would to my mind, traditionally come after the ceremony. Personally, I see the words as a familiar love for Jesus, and not about a dying person; quite literally a song about Jesus and joy. "Jesu, joy of man's desiring, Holy wisdom, love most bright; Drawn by Thee, our souls aspiring Soar to uncreated light", etc...en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jesu,_Joy_of_Man%27s_Desiring
bobbbxxx : Indeed this trend started, as far as I know, in the '90s. Absolutely was unheard of in the early '80s, though might've started up as that decade progressed ...
I picked this for my wedding as well Lee Jones but the processional for my wife was Trumpet Voluntary with organ and trumpet in a small church in Manila.
The registration is really good, especially the strings on the swell manual. If you have the time, please update the description to include the registration, complete with the change made for the great manual just before the ending. Thanks for posting.

My brother played this at my wedding 53 years ago. It is very special to us. This is my favourite version on RUclips.
Our music teacher used to play this when I was at school and I fell in love with it then. Years later I had it played at my baby daughter's funeral.
So sorry for your loss
I so understand that! Darling mother.! I'm also planning for it to be played at my father's funeral!
I am so sorry for your loss.

Yes sir. I've never had a wife, even though I've tried to find one for almost 40 years.
Hearing this song always makes me cry.
The pleasing tempo is seductive. The registration that Marshall selected is perfect. I could listen again, and again.

This familiar masterpiece is comfortable to the ears and the mind
My worries will fade away
This was played at our wedding in 1969 wonderful recital.
Nice choice
This was the processional song at our wedding which I picked out in 1984.
Title is rather apt for honeymoon night.
lol so original

It is the most beautiful piece of music ever written or played. Just tonight, I listened to it over a dozen times.
I never tire of listening to this masterpiece by Doug.
Oh! if I could only play the Organ like Doug, his technique, his legato, his style, his method, his mastery of the Pipe Organ bless you Doug Marshall
I learned about Virgil Fox when I was in my early 20's. My parents were thrilled that he played in Columbus Ohio and they went to his show.
i like to listen to this over and over again along with alla hornpipe

Oh my god! It's absolutely sublime 🤩
How wonderful that an ordinary person can bring such ethereal music.
You are absolutely right, though in musical terms, Doug Marshall is no ordinary person! :-)
@@deldridg Absolutely, positively agree!

En écoutant ce morceau, franchement ça soulage quelle que soit la peine ou la douleur qu'on puisse endurer.
A gentle but stately interpretation. Very well played.
Reminds of being a little boy. Leaving church in 1980s on a Sunday...
Masterful rendition of a masterpiece.
Extraordinary organ strings. Marshall and Ogletree outdid themselves.
Wow! Flawless play and movements between the manuals and impeccable pedaling!

Great piece. I love hearing it on the pipe organ. Who else came over to this video from the PianoForever channel?
Just gorgeous! Beautiful arrangement by Virgil Fox.

my favorite classical song of all time. So pretty. 🥰 it reminds me of someone getting married. Like if agree.
Me too. The music you listen to while waiting for the bride to appear.
Far more suitable for a funeral. A couple marrying desire each other. A person dying longs to be held in the arms of Jesus.
