My son planted a spider plant in his daycare in Alaska. Because of sentimental reasons , I brought the plant with us when we moved to Wisconsin. It survived the brutal winter trip through Canada and is now thriving and producing babies!

This was a fun informative video. You have a great personality and I love all the spider plants. They are among the few non toxic houseplants and are in fact 100% editable. In there native country lands of South Africa their roots have been used for centuries for medical purposes. Such a great plant for everyone to keep. 👍

I have a huge mother Spiderplant that pops off so many babies, I have the same "problem" as you, there are just so many haha! I even got my 7 year old brother hooked on them, because I gave him a lil baby (that he has taken sooo good care of!), and he's so exited whenever I give him more 😂 Spiderplants are such a good beginner plant, because it's so easy to see progress 😍

    In my family it’s a tradition 😑
All started with my grate grandmas mother who was gifted a spider plant on her wedding day she gave the babies of the spider plant to all her children when they left home
My grate grandma who still going strong kept hers and the babies and gave the babies to all her children when they left home
My grandma kept her plant and kept the babies and gave all her children or my aunties and uncles baby spider plants from her plant
All my aunties and uncles kept there plants
I have recently moved out of my home and have a daughter and soon I’ll have a son and my mom has just gifted me a baby spider plant from her plant and my cousins has also just moved out and my auntie has gifted him a spider plant
I feel like I will probably gift my daughter and son a baby spider plant when they are older and have left home 😅 and my cousin has said he will also probably do the same 🤣 with his kids 😅🤷🏻‍♀️
I feel like my family is the only family that dose this but surly not I am hoping we are not 😅 dose anyone else have odd traditions like this

Thanks for the helpful video. There is a neighborhood app called exactly that where I joined a group for free plants, I think that's what it's called. But I will definitely start doing this because I just let them be but they end up dying after awhile. I also didn't know that you should let them dry out all the way before watering, which my plants sitting directly next to the window get so much filtered sunlight that they seem to dry out very quickly!

Thank you for the info. I wasn't sure weather to cut them or not. But your tip is very good. Will definitely try it in water first. I have one plant that was doing really well. Watered it every couple of days when the earth was dry. Suddenly one day I woke up in the morning and the bottom leaves were dead and many others were brown on the tips. It has babies but they are not healthy. There are several babies on the same stem. They don't have a stem attached to the larger stem like you showed. I put it into a bigger pot and still having trouble nursing it back to its former glory. It is in bright indirect light. Please help. I really love this plant and don't want to lose it.

@@24ktlady how can you tell which one is female and male? I have two little baby ones, one is a little smaller and I’m propagating them together, would this have the same effect?

Both my spider plants are giving me a bit of trouble 😟 i cant get the watering right! When i water them they tend to turn the leaves yellow then black. I go a good amount of weeks with out watering they start growing but then when it was time to water them again theyd do the same thing. Do i wait longer between periods to water them? I also know i dnt give them much sunlight. Could it be that? I have both the regular and a curly one. The regular was my first plant 😔 I believe shes literally down to just 3 tiny not that big leaves. I feel like im killing them 😩 i read they were an easy plant but idk why im having so much trouble with them. I wished mine looked like urs so full nd so many babies.

It sounds like they aren’t getting enough light and maybe you are overwatering it a bit. Some of my low light plants I don’t water for a month! You should get a moisture meter, they are a life saver 💕

Try to think of watering as a "dry spell" not a drought, and less light means less water.

I thought my spider plant was dead, so I almost emptied the pot into my yard. Instead I just set it outside, turns out, he wasn’t dead and started coming back, I now have babies! I love seeing the flowers they produce too!
