My spider plant had babies, water propped them a few weeks, potted them up and put some in a W window (best light in the house), and just 2 mo later, it’s having babies! I’m a great grandma! ❤🪴🤣
2 months!!!???? WOW!!!
Congratulations!
I’m about to prop in water, wish me luck.
I picked up a spider plant in honor of my mom. She always had a huge pot with all those babies. She taught me so much . Taking care of my collection makes me feel closer to her ❤
Aww that is so sweet! My mom loved cooking and especially cooking pasta. I recently started learning more on cooking. Good luck with your plant journey 🌱
❤
Please Wish me Luck, or should say My Spider Plant Luck.... 😑 I'm getting ready to pott 2 Spider Plant Babies I snipped from a Plant while I was in Rehab for a Fractured Leg 2 yrs ag 11:12 o. I also brought home from Rehab with mea gift of
I'm convinced that spider plants are gonna take over the world with how fast they propagate
Should have called them bunny plants
Into the Spider-plant-verse! 🕷
My daughter found a broken, one leaf piece of spider plant baby on the floor at Lowe's and brought it home for me. She put it in water, and as soon as there was just a half inch root, I potted it in a two inch pot. It quickly put out more leaves! It's growing!
Ha cute!
Had spider plants for 40 years, love them.
I find this do funny. At school in year 2 i believe - we learned how to propagate a spider plant. Technically it was my first ever plant (yes, i was 7 or 8) 😂. I got into fruit trees after that. Gifting plants and trees to people at the age of 10. So yes, the spider plant started it all. It's the easiest plant on earth to propagate 😂.
You will never know how much you haved helped; (us) regarding water growing baby "Pups". We have 8 to plant into Soil, now we will plant them all together in our Terracotta Pot. "Thank You Very Much. I grew up planting Spider Plants, my Daddy taught me at 5 yrs old when he was off duty. when back on duty. My brother 3 yrs older gave it a hair cut ✂️, all one could see a the tiny bit of green. So I Popped his Football ⚽️. He did me a favour in the long run, the almost Bald Mother Plant grew twice as big with lot's of Pups. Almost all our Villagers, 'Up North' grew Spider Plants! Sorry for the Essay. When my Daddy died, I were 22yrs. I planted a Large Spider Plant on his grave until the temperature 🌡 plummeted, I left it too late as I was in University. Every year We planted one until we moved here. I miss Daddy so Much also his knowledge. "Thank You Again" Pretend it's a Spider Plant.🕷🕸🕷🕷🕸🕷🕷, and this is a Pup please. 🌱 🕊
Thank you for this video. I have recently been obsessed with spider plants. Your advice is helpful!
So nice of you thank you
They look wonderful! I just got a spider plant and she's starting to put out babies. Thanks for the tutorial!
Before I moved, I used to have a spider plant on my balcony
I started it from a couple of babies that my mom gave me, and it grew so so fast! had a lot of babies and flowers.
Such a cute, easygoing plant
Loving your hair! Just got my first baby spider plant from someone. It had tons of water roots. Didn't really know there was a difference. I potted it in soil in a terra cotta pot.we'll see how she does!
Thank you for this video, I was gifted a spider plant that is now pushing out babies. I feel like I'm prepped! 💗 Your advice on east/north/west/south placement is super helpful thank you.
My Bonnie Spider is one of my all-time favs!
Thanks for this video! I found a curly spider plant on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere, laying on her side half out of her pot. I guess she fell out of the back of someone’s truck, so I took her home. Summer 2023 was hot, and she ended up flowering, then giving a ton of babies! I’m about to gift these babies but didn’t have the know-how on proper propagation. Much appreciated!
.. Oh, how sweet of you to safe her life 🤗 best of luck with all the babies and the rest of mother Bonnie's life.. I hope she'll bring you happiness for many many years to come 🤗🍀🌞
This was helpful I always have trouble propagating spider plants ✨ thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Love my spider, thanks for sharing cool facts !!!
I love these types of videos. Please do more!
YESSSS thank you!!!
I have a variegated spider plant that was gifted to me, but I ended up almost killing it because I didn’t like the brown tips and how it looked, but I pruned it a few months ago and it put out a pup shortly after!
And the pup is growing beautifully :)
this is the perfect video that I needed without even knowing it 😅
Great tips, the mum plant looks very happy,!
💚🌱🌵☘️💚
Good to know they like root bound- once had mine about a year and no babies. Roots are starting to come out the bottom and I was contemplating repotting. Love your videos!
Very helpful video Heidi; thanks!
Spider plants are my favorite. Great video
Thank you for an interesting video as always Harli. You know another way of propagating I found is to put the baby spider plant in a small prepared pot. Put the baby in it but don't cut it off the mother plant. After a few weeks you'll find the roots have taken very well, then you cut it off the mother plant.
Fantastic! THANK YOU! 😀 😊
Love it thank you 🎉
Thank you!
Great information that i needed to know before i propagated my "Pups"!
I love Spider Plants. I have a green one who put out little babies. I have them in water!! About to pot them up soon!!
You got me at "hey guys", good video, will do.
Haha, love the humor on “bright, indirect is best. As vague as that is.”
I’m a newbie with plants as a hobby and I’m always like “what does that even mean!?” Always questioning my positions for the plants.
IT's so hard to describe how to place plants haha!
Just bought a spider plant today. Perfect timing! 😀
Thank you!
thank you!
harli comin in clutch, i was just gifted a few water propped spider babies yesterday!
I have a new emerald green one, no variegation which I love (my first houseplant ever). It came with a small flower stem already and in only 3 weeks it grew 5x the size and has about 6 babies and a TON of flowers. Still waiting (impatiently) for the babies to form roots. Now I found 3 or 4 more flower stems starting to grow! This thing grows SO fast and I'm going to have way too many babies haha. Can't wait to prop the babies and give them away as gifts. :) I've heard the non-variegated ones can actually make variegated babies, but I hope most of them come out the same as the mama cuz that's why I bought her. Her name is Tallulah btw :p
I just wanted to say that i think your videos are so awesome and you have helped me so much with my plants and you are my favorite plant content creator 💚💚💚💚🪴🪴🪴
Thanks!
Great video! I’m trying a plastic food bag with the S.Moss. I put plenty of of holes in the plastic bag hoping this will be a success.
I live in a very arid part of west Texas. I couldn’t keep them. Alive. Ever. I decided to try again with a huge Bonnie to give it a good with a self watering pot. Magic! I love self-watering pots!!!!
Spiders reproduce like rabbits! I got my first plant from my Mom 20 years ago. She still produces like the first year I got her. I’ve learned to trim mine every spring as they really seem to perk up from being relieved of all their kids. Mom & I always propagated with a glass of water in a window. 💚
Seviyorum bu bitkiyi 😍🌺
Hi Harli! I am new yo your channel , loving it!! I have a question: besides the spaghnum moss do you add superthrive or anything in the water to help the plants to root?
You're awesome, it's so interesting to watch your videos, easy to understand, I love it, thank you so much!! 😍😍🤗
I'm so glad! Thann you for watching
Love the video ❤I might actually get a 🕷 spider plant 😅
I had one that did real well, it produced lots babies. I kept this plant on a porch facing west with indirect sunlight. Sadly I left it out one winter and it did not survive a freeze. But the only thing I gave it was water, sun and love it did extremely well. Have 2 new plants now. These plants are so easy to care for.
The moss medium you used looks good in the clear container ~ 🙋🏻♀️ have you got a link to purchase similar ones please?
Just discovered this channel & subscribed 🍀
Your plant is beautiful! I have mine outside hoping she would get her act together! Might propogate the babies and throw the main plant!
Love your content 💕💕💕💕
Thank you so much!!
i have one i’ve just been growing in a cup of water with a bit of soil in and it’s looking amazing might just keep upsizing the container and keep it in water
Thank you so much for the video ! What moss do you buy?
This is perfect timing because I recently bought a huge spider plant full of babies. I mainly bought it for my cat, who loves to chomp on them. 😊
I was told they are toxic to cats
@@jennysmith1622 Spider plants are safe for cats per the ASPCA. They are not toxic but they do have mildly hallucinogenic properties if they eat enough of it! I've never observed that in my cat though; I don't think he eats enough to have an affect.
.. I grew up knowing spider plants was poison to cats and dogs.. Only my female cat don't know that, as in "I pretend not to know".. So my spider plants and the puppy's are way out of her reach, because if they are not, I won't have anyone left.. Once she took all 32 pups that was in propagation and half the mother plant..
Hey Harli!
I have a question that isn't directly related to this video, but I hope you can help!
I was wondering if you have tried propagating Botanicaz begonias, and if so, what method/substrate worked best for you?
Also love you, we have missed you and we are glad to be watching a new Harli video this morning 🎉
I always propagate begonias in sphagnum moss or coco coir in a closed environment w/ lots of humidity. I’m in the filming stages of a video showing how I propagate begonias *mostly* successfully 😊
Thanks for this video. I had spiders sitting in soil for a month and not rooting. Thankfully they were not dying either. I put them in a seed starter mix similar to what you mentioned with the coir and a few weeks later, BOOM 🪴
And not only that, my jade cuttings seem to have rooted in ways I've never seen jades go. What was taking months is now taking weeks. Same with other cuttings. I almost want to just switch to this as a potting mix entirely
So glad I found your sharing! I've just started mine in a new place & wanted to make sure I did it right. It's been a few years since I've done it. My Mother taught me, but she's been gone over 20yrs, n I can't seem to keep a plant alive after yrs of having a green thumb ❤🪴🌿
Once mine have started to grow roots, I put them in my aquariums. They really take off because they are NOT in regular tap water. The roots really soak up lots of nutrients from the water. Better for the fish too.
I have mine outside 🌿💕
Thanks for the video! You rock!
I'm water propagating a spider plant. While it's in water and growing roots really well, it's creating a spider baby. Do I clip it off and toss it, or let it grow?
You can rinse the roots without hurting them by holding the spider baby with the roots in a bowl of water. You can dump that water outside afterward. the individual babies will be easier to separate that way.
Sphagnum moss petals? I don’t think I’ve heard of this before. What kind do you recommend?
Hi, great video :) Do you know why a spider plant will have almost no variegation on some leaves, but others it is a proud lime/white center stripe? My spider plant seems to be thriving, I have no brown tips, covered with babies. I have grown this from a baby off shoot. The babies seem to be half and half on the stripes as well. I would love to hear your insight on this :) Thank you!
Harli I enjoyed the video and I was looking for the link to follow you and your sisters? I can't find it
Hello Harli, 1. I hope your family is doing well. 2. When retrieving the babies do you cut the yellow stem away down to the base? 3. Can you leave some, or should you do all the babies together? Take care, and thanks!
What potting mix do you use
Can I use just spagnum peat moss or do I need the petals ?
Maybe my spider plant are weird but the ones i have that look exactly the same and they do perfectly fine in direct sun for like 6hs in summer, also they they are extremely hardy to drying out because they grow these thicker roots that are full of water, even it they eventually wilt from extreme neglect they bounce back really fast.
Honestly in my experience these things can do well in really humid soil, dry soil, hot and cold climates(not sure about snow),full sun and even no sun as long as they get good indirect light.
Awesome thanks so much 👌☺️
What brand Sphagnum Moss do you use and where can I find it?
I have a crap ton of babies right now but I still don’t see any “pimple” roots het. like yours, I assume you would recommend to wait?
Can you please share what BRANDS you use?
Harli can you do a video on all your philodendron?
I’ve had my spider plant for over and year and it’s never produced pups. I’ve been looking into it and hopefully they grow.
Hey!! so i've tried to plant the baby plants in water and soil and failed. the leaves becomes very soft and start to dry up in the soil and in the water, the leaves turned yellow to black and died. I did take a plant which had root developing potential(the pimple looking nodes) , and it was given indirect sunlight. but, i m not sure what i m doing wrong, could you help me out here?
Is a 6L pot big enough for my 🕷 plant.?
Can I live it out in the winter?
Hi Harli! 😊👋
you are so pretty!
Lighting : Mimic the lighting conditions under a trees canopy
Planting : Make sure your plant to soil ratio is good. Do not surround a plant with a LOT of excess space & soil. It will hold too much water, making your plant more likely to develop rot and making your watering schedule harder.
Watering : Water the plant 1/week (if the soil surface is completely dry), only filling the top once and allow all excess to run out of the bottom. Do not allow your plants to sit in water
Watering # 2 : If you forget to water your plant for an extended period (and its still alive), put it in a bowl or tub that allows it to soak water for 30 minutes.
Once you have an established plant in soil : Water in every 6/mo with a root stimulator (it doesnt have to be an expensive brand, just one with a lot of good reviews) mixed into the water.
If its a spring/summer period, do not fertilize your plant for 1 month after your root stimulator watering.
Propagation : Use water -- It allows the plant to get all of the water needed, and allows the foliage to adapt to your native humidity levels.
I’m curious why my spider plants leaves are turning black? Is it getting sunburnt? How often to water the Water propagation after transfer to soil? How often do I water the mother plant, do I wait until it’s dry? 10:02
Do you sell your plants because it seems alot for someone to have so many people pants in their home
If I let a baby grow water roots would it be safe to transfer it to an aquarium to continue its life as a riparium plant or would it eventually die with continuous wet feet?
how often should i water the plant that is propagated in the water and then planted in the succulent soil mix??
Don’t let the substrate dry out much for the first few weeks
💚💚
My Spiderplant has such long leaves they bend in the middle and then it doesn'tlook good, how do i start the plant over again without killing it?
The rest of the "stem" that the babies grew on, do you cut them off of the mother plant? Or will they grow more babies if we leave them long?
If there are more nodes on the stem then it will grow more babies
For the first time I finally successfully water propagated my Bonnie! The first time I tried I killed THREE of those offshoots
😭🙃
I had one spider plant but incidentally they made two without pubs 😊😅but now both have pubs 😊
Do you still have a discount code for liqui dirt?
Yes, it’s harlig_25
Spider Babies 😎
I just bought my first spider plant. 💚 it looks exactly like yours. I was worried that my pup steams were dying because they’re yellow. I’m scared if I cut the steams that the pups won’t grow back. Any advice?
Hey! If you send me a photo of your plant & the specific stems you want to cut I can help a better I think. Do you have IG?
@@HarliG that is so kind of you! Yes I do. I’ll find you and send a photo soon.
Would it be best to root the clipping for a month before sending the baby plant through the mail? I'd like to send a couple clippings to family! 😁
Yes I think so
When you got that plant you said the flower would fall off, butttt I bet you have seen by now they just basically turn into the baby :) I was happy to see shes still thriving and birthing lol
thank you for this video 💚
two spider plants i’ve had for a couple yrs have not given me any babies 😭
.. Take it easy 🤗 even a plant have to grow up before producing babies..
Can confirm they DO NOT like dry medium. I forgot to water mine before I left on vacation for TWO DAYS and I got home and she was dead. 😅 I finally got a new one but they are not tolerant of staying dry for long.
What’s that moss called?
Sphagnum Moss
🌱💚🌱💚🌱
How did they grow so much so fast😅
Why Terra cotta?
My spider loves being in the top of the fish tank. I couldn't get it to grow otherwise. 😢
Spider plants are like this little secret joy plant. My sister gave me a curly spider baby and I though Oh no what am I going to do with this cause it wasn't my spider of choice. Five years later she's so huge she lives in a huge 8? or 12? inch Rae Dunn pot with butterflys on it with the nick name of "Big bad Momma" I put her and her colony pot on a fern stand cause she is such a focal plant now.
Would you sell some babies? I’m interested in buying some.
I just clip the pups off my pland and pop them in the soil with there mum and they keep growing 😅
