I have just finished all of your books . Thank you so much . I see myself in each one of them as a mum of a 22 year old with a schizophrenia diagnosis and Anosognosia. Can I ask you all? How did each of your sons feel about you writing the books and doing this podcast. I’d like to be more public about my own situation but I don’t as I am trying to protect both my sons privacy and my relationship with him. No doubt these were areas of concern for you all too. Could I ask how you got around it in a way that your sons accepted. Many many thanks for 100 podcasts!!
@@kathrynrainbow hi this is Randye. I blogged about this , and glad you asked. When I was writing the book, my son balked at first. He still does not think he has schizophrenia. We talked about it (he was in treatment at the time, so easier to have the talk) and I explained that this was clearly a story from my point of view, not his, and I was sharing what my experience was. We also agreed to change his name. We have different last names , so no one can google him. That said, he said it was okay but that he had a different story to tell….which is true. I do wish he would write it. Also, part of him is kind of proud , oddly. Once, when he was at work, his supervisor said he thought his nephew had SZ and my son came home and asked if he could share the book with his supervisor. Whenever it involves helping someone else, Ben has a new take on things :)
