@@cloudGGs Cheaper? Can you provide references to Windows laptops that have similar core features (battery life, performance, noise level, weight, compactness, screen size and quality etc.) for less money?
I'm not sure how many of those after a 16" M2 will go for a 15" Air but potential 15" Air buyers may be tempted by a refurbished 16" M1. So, as people have mentioned in the comments, a good comparison for you to do would be the M2 Air 15" vs M1 Pro 16".
Yes, thats is exactly what I was thinking about especially that you can find M1 pro 16 inch with similar price as Air 15 inch (with 512GB and 16GB ram). Personally I think that M1 pro will be a better choice in case you think about upgrading air to 512 GB and 16 GB ram.
I have a 16" M1 MBP and just got a 15" Air with 16GB and 1TB SSD. The TLDR is the Air is good enough. The big deciding factor for me was the weight. When you combine the laptop, charger and external battery pack size differences needed to power each laptop; I saved just under 3lbs in my bag and it fits a lot better. The MBA screen is good, speakers are good, CPU is fast, ports are fast, etc. It is good enough for everything I've thrown at it. The MBP screen is great, speakers are really good (but not good enough to replace even a cheap portable speaker), CPU is only better in multi-threaded applications but the GPU is substantially better. I don't do much heavy graphic work so the MBA's smaller size on my lap and in my backpack made all the difference. Going to just sell the MBP. I would have gone with the 512GB Air if they had it in stock in stores but they only had the 1TB version and I didn't want to wait lol.
I have both the M1 Air (personal) and the M1 16" MBP (work) and I've put them both through their paces (sorry work, I cleaned it up after I was done.) I'm a developer, not a content creator, and both machines work well for development. Both can power my single 27" 5K monitor, but the MBP could potentially power two monitors. That's not an issue for me as I prefer to use a single monitor and multiple workspaces, but it could be a thing for some people. I have an upgraded M1 Air with 16 GB RAM and I think two extra GPU cores. Still, if you're going to play a lot of games, the MBP is better for that. For those who are curious, there are a ton of games available for the Mac. Not as many as Windows, but there are plenty. When working unplugged, the biggest difference between the two devices is the screen size. I don't listen to music without headphones enough for the (amazing) MBP speakers to be a big differentiator for me. But the extra screen real estate is nice. If I were going to buy a new device today, I'd probably go with the 14" M2 MBP as it seems to hit the sweet spot between desktop-replacement power and laptop portability. That said, I mostly work from my home office. If I were going to be on the road more often, I'd probably go with the 15" Air. Ultimately, its hard to go wrong.

I don't think these are worth 700$ on their own, but when you're investing 1800$ on a device they become much more reasonable as additions to it. I was tearing my hear out deciding between M1 Pro 16' at £1799, or the MBA 15 with 16GB at £1599. Ended up going with the 16, so far the extra bulk doesnt bother me, but still not sure I made the right choice!
When you can use your iPhone as a webcam you kind of don’t really need getting a separate one. That’s IF you absolutely need a better webcam than the built-in ones which are perfectly fine for calls imo
Am I an idiot to opt for the 16 inch MBP solely for the speakers? I'm audio-sensitive, and the sound on the MBP has blown me away, particularly with music. The depth, the warmth, the bass, the stereo effect feels physically soothing, transporting. Hard to describe, mb it's my audio sensitivity. By contrast the sound and especially music on the MBA sounds almost painful -- very thin, tinny, hard to hear the bass. As an apartment dweller sharing a wall with neighbors etc. I'm not not sure I want to spend money on external speakers. Headphones? I'm paying about $1400 just for the better sound on the MBP vs. the MBA; I find the 15 inch screen is just as adequate as the 16 inch.
A Mac works for a very long time. I still have my 2015 15» and it still works fine. I would go for the MBP 16» or the M1, as it have a better and screen, speakers and more input choices.
I absolutely love the 15" MacBook Air but once you go Pro Motion display you can never go back. Since the 14-inch is too small for me, the big-ass 16-inch it is...
I'm totally happy with my 16"M1Pro (32GB, 4TB) but if I wanted a secondary laptop, I'd get the entry-level 14" MBPro - even an M1Pro. Aside from the mini-LED screen, it can drive two monitors when I need to (my office setup is two plus a third on a desktop) and I can jack directly into a projector when I need to without worrying about forgetting a HDMI adapter.
Interesting comparison, Id opt for 16" personally, but the air could also do the job. When the 17" macbook air arrives with an M3 chip, wow that will be the day. The macbook air pro 17"
Please compare it to the base 2019 MacBook Pro 16’ - I’ve been thinking about trading mine in and applying the trade in to the new 15’ with 16gb of ram.
I bought a discounted 16 inch MacBook Pro in Oktober when I realized that I would most likely pay considerably more for a MiniLED Apple Studiodisplay should Apple decide to release such a monitor at some point in the future. And I am happy that I did because the increase in screen size in comparison to my m1 air really makes a difference when editing in FCP something I avoided doing on the m1 Air. I haven’t yet done any color grading on any of my videos but I like the idea that I can do it HDR should I decide to
What is better "MacBook pro 14-inch m1 max storage 1TB/ memory32GB/ 32-core" OR "MacBook pro 16.2-inch (2023) M2 pro 16gb/1TB"? I found them for almost the same price, so now I'm thinking which one is better, please help!
Bought myself one of the new Air machines. The screen's too big. It doesn't look anywhere near as good as the 13", even with the display tightened with the "More Space" resolution option. Which led me to giving up and buying a 16" Pro, which is in all ways, bar the price, the better machine and the "XDR" screen is way better than the "ordinary Retina" screen.
It's odd that in 2023 there are computers with 8 GB of RAM, that's way too low considering many apps require 8 or even 16. So you can forget multitasking with an MacBook Air or iMac.
Great useful video. But in all honesty, the Pro "demolished" the Air ONLY when under heavy tasks. But when both computers are doing normal tasks like exporting, they are almost identical. Maybe just 40 seconds of difference, maybe 60. AND, since the Air can't push as hard as the Pro, it remains with 20% battery more. So yeah, if you plan to live your life DANGEROUSLY, working hard hard hard every day 7 days a week, the Pro is your choice. But for a NORMAL amount of work and tasks, the Air is the real winner here.
Well, the Air and the Pro are very different machines. I don't do near as much with my laptop. I do my heavy lifting on my desktop. Unfortunately, both are base M2 and are very close in performance.... however, I have set myself up for a Pro Mac mini at some point. I still find that Apple Silicon is amazing in mobile devices and nothing special in desktop devices unless power efficiency is the biggest benefit.
Agreed. Many people are advocating Windows/Linux OS for desktop setups due to raw power and cost effectiveness, and MacBooks for laptops due to extreme battery life. I don't see any evidence currently that refutes this setup beyond brand bias or consistency with one OS.
Very excited about this video, I am currently shopping for a new MacMini and wow! This is so disappointing to find out that this does not have the power or speed to do what I want!!
Hi there, I’m torn between the 15 MBA and 16 MBP. I want the 15 or 16 screen size so it’s between the two. Question is: I don’t do massively technical stuff but I have maybe 20-30 web tabs open, I send a lot of data heavy emails and need to edit, move, attach and send documents and many emails every day - as well as running. Multiple word docs and excel sheets all simultaneously. Would the 15 MBA give me enough power? Or would a safer bet be MBP? It’s essential I can do all the above seamlessly without waiting times. Thanks!
So I’m going to be a freshman in college this fall. I was looking at Apple’s back to school deal students and I could get 14 inch M2 pro MacBook Pro for $1349, should get that or should I just go with the 15 inch Air
Really? These two laptops are not intended for the same users, and most knowledgeable users would just assume the differences you are pointing out! And those that are not that knowledgeable, won’t care or even understand much of your analysis. I just bought the new 15” Air (16GB/1TB) to replace my 16” MacBook Pro, because I don’t really need all of the Pro’s capabilities, and didn’t like how heavy it was.
I like the MacBook Air but 8GB of RAM is not enough I mean yeah you can upgrade it but at that point you're better off getting a MacBook Pro with an M2 Pro. The MacBook Pro lineup will always be more future proof than the regular Air
How does the 15 inch MacBook Air M2 24ram vs 16 inch MacBook Pro 16ram compare? I don’t want to waste 2,500 on a MacBook Pro 16 inch if I can get the air for 700 less (performance wise and future proof). Mostly want the 16 inch for the screen/display quality.
This video misses the mark by not recognizing that laptops cater to diverse consumer needs, much like the Jeep Wrangler and Grand Wagoneer. It's unfair to expect the nimble Wrangler to mirror the features of the long-distance cruising Wagoneer. Similarly, the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro are designed for distinct audiences, with the Air being more lightweight and the Pro packed with advanced features. Comparing them without considering the intended consumer demographics is an oversimplified and misleading approach.
I bought a macbook pro M1 pro 14' for 1400€ on the apple’s refurbed because if I increased the RAM to 16go and the SSD (and more slots m) one the MBA 15’, the price was more expensive than the Macbook pro M1 pro 14'. I don't know if I made the right choice, originally I wanted the MBA 15'. I'm afraid that he would be overkill as I'm only using Lightroom and web navigation
There is a laptop for every budget. I sold my 16" and almost bought the 15" last week, until I started looking for Apple refurbished machines. To be honest, I was not planning to sell the 16" but a friend of mine stopped by and yah-dah-yah-dah I ordered a 14" with more horsepower. I do not need the MAX processor, but I got it anyway, I do need the 32Gb memory. Might as well get a great laptop, and my budget allowed it. The 15" does fit, I have already seen some tech tubers going on about upgrading theirs to 16Gb and 1Tb SSD and there is nothing wrong with that, more power to them. From a value proposition... well, let's not get into that.
They should've made the air the base with an amazing screen and a wireless dongle accessory they could sell on the side that could just connect to everything. It's something old apple would've done.
I decided to go with the air. I like the larger screen, but I don’t really need that much power. I’ll use the Air for work, which means I will only be using MS Office, Firefox, Brave, Gmail, and an occasional Zoom meeting.
I'm wondering if the M3 or next 'pro' is going to be 14/16, or if there's room for a 15 in the space. I was in a store messing with the range today and while the 14" felt a lot better than my 13"... the 16 felt like too much for my use case and the 15 was kinda the sweet spot...
I think everyone is on that same page. The 14 feels good until it doesn’t and you realize the screen real estate sucks still. The 16 feels great then you realize It’s fucking huge. 15 is somehow the perfect sweet spot
@@frostgodx I just hope there's a 15 pro coming. My 13 Pro is the best laptop I've ever owned; that M1 battery goes *forever*. Even under use. Buuut I can't edit or write music on it as it's just a bit too wee on the trackpad/screen. It's also dongle hell when you need to add stuff. A 15, with the 30core GPU and at least 32Gb ram will be a purchase from me - esp. with places like Costco doing Apple laptops for £350 less than everywhere else.
I have an M1 Pro 16in MBP and wish I could trade it in for the 15in MBA without paying anything extra. I don’t care about the speakers, pro-motion display, or any of the extra ports.
I have both. (Not bragging; just lucky...) I think they are meant for completely different users. Oranges and apples. (small 'a'). Both are great steps forward from their predecessors. They each do their jobs well. I also believe the M3 chip will change it all again. Etc, etc.
Fyi I noticed as soon as you guys switched at the SSD part. All along I've known you're not the same person (and I'm not sure why some ppl think you are lol)
the next iteration of the 16" pro will have the same design profile of the 15", that is to say it will be more thinner with the M3 or M4 chip. At that point it should either have OLED or better, micro LED screen, now that would be an upgrade worth waiting for, but it will be a few yrs of waiting. I have been waiting for a while now and might just wait for a few more. I have the 2015 MBP, its still going strong! 1-1.5hrs of battery while web browsing. Still rocking the original battery, I am impressed how good of a machine it is. Screen is just as good as I first got it. crisp and clear. Apple makes good products that for me is considered an investment that I know I will use for yrs to come, again that depends what you use it for. For me the greatest game changer will be the OLED or micro LED screen to upgrade.
Hi, the 15-inch MacBook Air supports one external screen, while the 16-inch MacBook Pro can support two external screens unless you upgrade to a higher-specification chip. Unfortunately, upgrading to a max chip is not possible for the 15-inch model (small correction to your video).
Compared two totally different class of notebooks. One is a productivity powerhouse, desktop replacement, while the other is a general purpose capable gadget. It's last years Air with a bigger screen.
The M-series Macs are amazing devices. I have a 16" M1 MBP for work and while it is a fantastic machine, it's a chonker. I wouldn't recommend it for portability.

I was tearing my hear out deciding between M1 Pro 16' at £1799, or the MBA 15 with 16GB at £1599. Ended up going with the 16, so far the extra bulk doesnt bother me, but still not sure I made the right choice!
You made the right choice my friend
so im thinking between as well 😅
same dawg
When you can use your iPhone as a webcam you kind of don’t really need getting a separate one. That’s IF you absolutely need a better webcam than the built-in ones which are perfectly fine for calls imo
Both cameras perform the same, however the mic on the 16"MBP is much better
The MacBook Pro 16 does not support three external displays it supports only two. Amazing review thanks.
Depends on whether it’s the Pro or Max chip.
Thanks for your comparison video. I had BOTH. MBP 16 is a mobile "Desktop". It is HEAVY. I will NOT recommend it for daily commute.
Would you recommend the 15” Air over a 13” MBP?
I'm wondering how many people noticed that they switched at 7:52
i noticed it too, even listened to their almost similar voice haha
A Mac works for a very long time. I still have my 2015 15» and it still works fine. I would go for the MBP 16» or the M1, as it have a better and screen, speakers and more input choices.
I absolutely love the 15" MacBook Air but once you go Pro Motion display you can never go back. Since the 14-inch is too small for me, the big-ass 16-inch it is...
Another great review! Looking forward for a 16'' M1 Pro vs 15'' M2 comparison..!!
I have both. My Mac book pro is my workhorse and stays at home. My MacBook Air is my go out with computer.
Wow, the transition between Vadim and Max was Fast!
Vadim had to run to church
Interesting comparison, Id opt for 16" personally, but the air could also do the job. When the 17" macbook air arrives with an M3 chip, wow that will be the day. The macbook air pro 17"
Apple will do insane numbers if this happens. But lets see what the future holds for Apple.
I haven’t yet done any color grading on any of my videos but I like the idea that I can do it HDR should I decide to
The MBA is now 3-5x better than what a Pro Machine was just 3 years ago but you wouldn’t know that watching YT reviews.
That would be a cool comparison!
For people watching this video and wondering which one to get, you will be fine with the MBA. And people who really need MBP, will already know.
i'm a designer and i love my 15" air. no regrets losing promotion and some screen real estate because i'm usually plugging into my 5k display anyway!
This is exactly the video I was waiting for! Thanks man
By adding cooling pad, would I reduce the throttling and increase the performance of the air? Thx a lot
Yes, by a long shot
It comes down to:
1) Portability and cost = MBA base model.
2) Performance and connectivity = MBP base model.
I would have loved to get the Air, but I know the lack of ports would drive me crazy so I just ordered the Pro.
Can you compare a 16/256GB model vs a 8/512GB model?
That Logic performance delta is insane. It’s almost better to buy a refurb 16 M1.
How u gonna say the 15 inch screen is to big but then u buy the 16 inch 💀💀💀
Waiting for the M3. You made it quite clear before it was delayed.
1:34 16" supports only 2 external displays as per the data you showed
Very excited about this video, I am currently shopping for a new MacMini and wow! This is so disappointing to find out that this does not have the power or speed to do what I want!!
Hi there,
I’m torn between the 15 MBA and 16 MBP.
Thanks!
CPU/GPU wise the MBA should work for you. But, you’ll want at least 16gb RAM to be able to multitask without any lag.
The power is fine but more ram would help u a lot
The best song for speaker comparison 💯 I can clearly hear the difference between th different laptops!
So I’m going to be a freshman in college this fall. I was looking at Apple’s back to school deal students and I could get 14 inch M2 pro MacBook Pro for $1349, should get that or should I just go with the 15 inch Air
The only advice I can give you is cherish the next few years. Because after college, adulthood sucks.
You keep going on, and on about pricing. I buy for 7-8 years of use and I'm due to replace my 2016 Pro with the new 16" as its cheap over 7 years.
there is an m1 16” right now on Adorama with 32gb ram for 1049. Really good deal.
Does anyone notice that Max has changed to another person during the video? LOL
He has a twin brother
At 8:03 the green shirt, different hair and beard are the biggest differences. 🧐
I like the MacBook Air but 8GB of RAM is not enough I mean yeah you can upgrade it but at that point you're better off getting a MacBook Pro with an M2 Pro. The MacBook Pro lineup will always be more future proof than the regular Air
yours is the only channel that always answers the questions i have. thanks for this video!
Time after time it looks like the Air would have been a better design with a fan!
Great video guys! It’s the 16” MBP M2 Max for me, but 15” Air for my Dad. They’re both great.
16 inch MBP is a workhorse. 15 inch MBA is a unicorn 🦄
That summed it up😃
True apple fan🙃
If I do occasionally need the power of MacBook Pro. I'm just wondering if I get a good cooling pad for the MBA 15", how much better would it fair?
I'd still take the M1 or M2 MBP. Sure the 15" is thin but not that much lighter than the 14" and I rather have the better screen and ports.
Is it worth to upgrade from 16'' Pro 2019 intel bassed?
16" may be more consistent in speed but then that uses more power and less battery life, also the display would be using more battery.
They should've made the air the base with an amazing screen and a wireless dongle accessory they could sell on the side that could just connect to everything. It's something old apple would've done.
The MBA webcam looks better than that 4K webcam do me so I don’t know what Max Tech is talking about.
I decided to go with the air. I like the larger screen, but I don’t really need that much power. I’ll use the Air for work, which means I will only be using MS Office, Firefox, Brave, Gmail, and an occasional Zoom meeting.
Yeah it's gonna be more than enough. I went from an M1 air to the 15'' and it feels like a huge upgrade.
Vadim suddenly turned into Max midway in the video, if this isn’t magic by apple then I don’t know what is
I'm wondering if the M3 or next 'pro' is going to be 14/16, or if there's room for a 15 in the space.
Dude. This video is everything i wish i had someone to ask. Great info, great video! Made my choice, thanks!
I have an M1 Pro 16in MBP and wish I could trade it in for the 15in MBA without paying anything extra. I don’t care about the speakers, pro-motion display, or any of the extra ports.
Just MO but I think you get way to over the top with geek bench results.
please do a comparison between this machine and the 15 inch intel-based one to see how far did apple go?
The 16 inch M2 Max supports 4 external displays 1:35
Where do you see that? In the video, the screenshot shows "up to TWO thunderbolt *OR* one thunderbolt and one HDMI"
@@zesta77 that’s M2 Pro. Have a look at the M2 Max spec sheet
I need these cases to get released for the MacBook Air 15. I'm using a generic sleeve for protection right now.
I need someone to compare the sizing for both 15 inch devices with the air and pro. I want to get a case for my new Mac but there aren’t any yet
We need to see M1 MBP 16” vs this M2 15” MBA !!! The old 16” is cheaper. That’s where I am at and stuck.
Was this with the base configuration of both laptops? Interesting comparison.
the next iteration of the 16" pro will have the same design profile of the 15", that is to say it will be more thinner with the M3 or M4 chip.
1:37 - says MBP supports up to 3 external displays while the text clearly says 2 😂
If the Air would have Pro Motion....
and MiniLED ☺
I’m addicted to these MacBook vids. I’m gearing up to get a new one. Thinking about M1 Max to save money
I won’t be doing all that much if I get the MacBook Pro with m2 so I think I just need M1 chips
This dude uploads video like no one else. He is on a mission.
The M-series Macs are amazing devices. I have a 16" M1 MBP for work and while it is a fantastic machine, it's a chonker. I wouldn't recommend it for portability.
Not sure if I missed this in the video or if it wasn't mentioned but was this a base M2 MBA 15 (8gb/256gb) vs base M2 MBP 16 (16gb/512gb)?
upgraded MBA 15” (16gb/512gb) vs base MBP 16” (16gb/512gb)
Wow. Any webcam review?
did yall just swap mid-video and think we wouldnt notice??? 🤣
Cinebech R23 - What about their single core results? Are they identical or there is some difference? Because this could show which one will be more responsive
