Got both! Had 16” for a year, I travel a lot and work remote so needed the extra screen. But really, lugging it from place to place was very exhausting. I had to plan my vacation to basically just sit in my hotel room to work. In the hot summers it was a nightmare to lug it around. THEN came the 15. I debated for a few weeks whether to get it but after my trip to Turkey where I really wanted to work around this small beach town but couldn’t because of the size, enough was enough. I got the 15, and WOW. My vacation to Portugal was a dream! I use both. 16 on my desktop for power + dual screen, and 15 around the house + vacation

Can get a 16” M1 MacBook Pro with 16gb ram and 1TB ssd for around $1500 now, compared to a 15” M2 Air with 16gb and 512gb sad for about $1450. I guess it comes down to M2 Air portability vs better monitor, speakers, ports on the M1 MacBook Pro. I think I’m definitely leaning toward the M1 MacBook pro now.

I have a 14 inch Pro with the M2 Pro, and I just picked up a 15 Inch M3 Air 16/512, after weeks of internal debate.. I am an office worker, I utilize accounting software, Teams, work in spreadsheets, and do a lot of multitasking, and I'm unable to tell the difference between the two devices when it comes to performance. The only time I can tell the difference in the screen quality in my day to day use this week is during animations such as opening the Notification Center, or expanding a folder in the dock, I don't watch many videos, or edit photos and videos to notice the lack of HDR, I don't use my laptop in a super bright room, so the brightness is fine. What I do notice is the additional screen space, and the weight distribution on the Air, the speakers are definitely worse (but I usually have my AirPods in when I'm in the office). When I'm at home, I have a high end custom PC, with the LG 45" 240HZ OLED monitor for gaming and media consumption... I may change my mind and go back to the 14, because it is better in almost every way on paper, but I'm enjoying the 15 right now.

Hi, I'm currently considering which MacBook to choose, and I wanted to ask you which one, in your opinion, would be a better choice.
The new MacBook 15 Air with M2, 16GB RAM, and 256GB SSD.
    A used MacBook Pro 16 with M1, 16GB RAM, and 512GB SSD.
I mainly intend to use it for photography, editing images in programs like Photoshop, Lightroom, Capture One, and for live photo previews, internet browsing, and working with text documents. I should note that I don't edit a large number of photos in my workflow, just small sessions.
The MacBook Air 15 with M2 is appealing to me due to its lighter weight and greater mobility, as well as its long battery life. However, the price is quite high, so I would probably go with 16 GB RAM and 256 GB SSD to keep costs down.
On the other hand, a used MacBook Pro 16 with M1 would offer a larger 512 GB SSD and 16 GB RAM. It has a better display, speakers, an SD card reader, and an HDMI port. Unfortunately, it is considerably heavier and bulkier, which might make typing and carrying it around less convenient compared to the Air 15 with M2.
I would be very grateful for your response.

Maybe mine was defective or something idk… I was really bummed out though because I loved everything about that laptop except the storage and memory. If it had been 512/16gb it would be an almost perfect machine for even 1400. Apple intentionally gives people less than what they need so they spend a fortune upgrading. I think they went from 4 to 8gb around 2016 so we are WAY overdue for a bump up on the base models…

I watched 4K HDR 120hz videos in store side by side and could barely see any difference between the 2 screens. The pro seemed ever so slightly brighter and slightly larger but that was it. The sound on the 16 is much better although it's also relatively decent on the air. Ports - unless you need an SD slot it's not a big deal - just leave an adaptor in the cable attached to your external monitor if you use one . The extra usb would be nice but 2 should be enough - one for an external drive and one of a usb audio interface. I produce electronic music as a hobby so i'm looking at 1TB 16GB configurations. I'd love to have no fan noise but I do like the 50% power increase on the M2 pro. Whether i'd need it or utilise it is something i'm not sure about. I found a deal on the 16 pro so there's about £600 price difference. I don't particularly like the bulky and heavy form factor of the pro but then again it's very rare I ever take my laptop outside of the house. It stays on my desk the vast majority of the time

The number #1 accessories that make we want USB A are the Non-Apple designed wireless mice and keyboards with the USB-A thingy (sort of like a poor man's bluetooth). I agree, I use the 16 as my daily driver and it only gets frustrating when carrying it for long periods of time in a backpack for me.

The better option is to get the MBP 16 m1pro with superb discounted price which similar or cheaper than the mba15!

Good call, I think people wanting the mba15 are looking for the lightest possible option for the screen size. The 16 pro is such a solid machine still though!

@@JohnSmith-zl8rz For about $1.5k, which about 1 upgrade of MBA15, can get MBP16 m1pro with 16gb ram and 1TB storage in my home country here after discounted. MBP14 m1pro base are selling way below it.

I agree. I love the midnight color on the air but 8gb of ram and 256 gb of storage is disgusting for $1300 after tax. For $1600 after tax you can get a like new M1 Pro 16 inch with 16gb of ram and 1tb of storage.

I find that if I upgrade the storage and memory closer to what I want for the Air, it makes more sense to go Pro and also get a higher ceiling. The negative with the Pro is that it is tempting to get north of $4,000 with a few clicks on the order page. I am tempted to just wait until the next MacBook Pro and then go full Apple with my purchase and get something crazy good.

I returned my macbook air 15 and went with a windows laptop with an AMOLED panel. You get more bang for your buck and I have zero regrets. The backlight bleed on the macbook air (when watching dark content) is just awful. Shame on Apple for using such a shitty LCD panel.
