That's the same type bus that helped me start life, moved from poverty in Louisville to California with nothing, got off the buss and said never going back, got a job in a week, a truck in two weeks and never looked back. I'll be retiring in 5 years!! Best trip of my life!!!
I remember when these babies ruled the highways; especially up and down 7th Avenue in Manhattan in the '70s and '80s. Greyhound, Continental Trailways and Peter Pan were regulars.
Have traveled thousands of miles in a MC7 with the 4 speed manual transmission which took skill & knowledge of machinery to operate. The MC7 had more power & could climb hills much better than the MC8`s with their automatic transmissions. Have had to help to get more than 1 of them going so as to get to work! At the end of the rural route in Tillamook county the bus would have to sit from 8:30 pm Friday night until 9:30 am route Monday. Many times the batteries would run down & as 1 person, (assigned driver) started engine directly in engine bay another person,(me) would have to hold the throttle down to get engine to catch & start.Had to get to work! Had to have bus operate & had no time for another bus to be sent out from the bus barn 2 hours away. The drivers all knew me well as I was the passenger who was left off on Hwy 101 at an old horse barn where I would then transfer to my parents horse for the rest of the way home. Turk always knew when the busses were coming as they went right by his old barn.
@@BusTVChan The mc9`S had a little more power & the auto. transmission was improved from when they 1st came out in the mc8`s. When the auto.s came out it did make driving much easier for the drivers in urban driving. Kind of miss the old days of riding the Greyhound. Sadly now our major city here in Oregon, (Portland), no longer has a depot. It is only a flag stop in a city of almost a million people! We fear that Greyhound may disappear completely. Many smaller cities here in Oregon have not bus service at all or has been replaced with inferior property tax supported services just as 1 of the drivers,( William Clements) said would happen. With deregulation of bus services in the 1980`s, he said professional drivers would be replaced with poorly trained drivers ill equipped . I rode with Bill many thousands of miles.
Yes, they did build buses in 1970. But vastly better, safer, more comfortable, more environmentally friendly, and better looking buses are built today.
@@roberthenry9319I don’t know about “better looking”. That’s a nice looking coach on this vid, externally anyway. I’d love 2 see some1 makeover and update the inside of it, perhaps, as more of a luxury coach though.
I remember those buses they replaced the beautiful scenicruisers and another favorite was a bus made in Mexico in the 70s by the name Autobus Sultana a 4 axel even better looking than the Scenicruiser in my opinion. Thumbs up 👍🏼on an awesome video
Drove Eagles for Trailways in the 1970s always liked how they handled curves in the PA Turnpike. But the a/c was never as good as the a/c in the MCI. The steps on the MCI just looked like quality. Got to deadhead with a few Greyhound drivers trying to get back to NYC. Those were the days when you could flag down bus while in uniform the driver would stop and you got on.
This bus is an MCA MC6. Only 100 were made compared to the 1,001 Scenicruisers. They built them before getting Federal approval which put a halt to production because they were 102 inches wide
😂 I will always have much respect for Trailways and Greyhound buses back in the day when I was a kid my mother never drove so we took these buses from Connecticut to Virginia every summer for at least 10 years straight they never broke down and never was a problem with the driver it was always a pleasant ride I remember it like yesterday going through New York Port authority underground I found that fascinating as a kid
That is a MC-6 was a great bus first 102 inch was only rain in California had a 12v71 and a 4 speed Spicer was changed to a 8v71 Detroit and unfortunately changed to automatic since people couldn't shift and the Spicer was a pan in the A should of had a road ranger.
Road greyhound many times during the 70’s from NY to Georgia to spend the summer. I would always get motion sickness, but looking back now those were great times times.
Those where the buses my brother and sister and I would take from New York City Port authority bus station in Manhattan,Ny to Gloversville, Ny in the summer tine of visiting the family and Grand parents back in the day in the 70a and 80s the first stop is Albany, Ny .
I used to drive Division 6 out of San Francisco and drove these to Reno often. Rode very nice, but slow on the hill as the Detroit 8-71 and Alison. It was underpowered compared to the original 12-71 Detriots with 425 HP and a four speed Spicer.
🤨these with the 12v71s could climb most hills almost without a downshift and could haul fully loaded well past 100mph...my dad sold for MCI...I remember when these first came off the Greyhound fleet...a small dealership in Los Angeles got 7 or 8 to sell...Nothing again has since been Produced...the true King of the Road...I will never forget the ride I took for a sales demo and how wide it was in the traffic lane....and how it could easily roar past most traffic!
I boarded a Greyhound sceneacruser 7 in Los Angeles cross country to Rhode Island in 1977. I think it was 3 days and didn't sleep or eat much. It was a $55 coast to coast fare.
That doesn't sound cheap for 1977.. I wonder how much they would Charge these days for a ticket like that. Yeah the scenic cruiser is nice too.. did you ever ride trailways?
@@BusTVChan I wish I could have ridden in a Trailways. They mostly had the rural Eastern Oregon routes in my state when I traveled by bus so I never had the opportunity to ride in one.
I allways got in the back seats. Most of the time I could lay down on all3 seats and go to sleep if wasn’t to crowded and in the back the only place you could smoke
I remember after getting out of prison back in 1995 and riding the Greyhound from Knoxville, TN to Miami, Florida with my old lady. She hit the rag a few days early and I remember the kind lady sitting across form us giving my old lady a size 6 Pamper to fill. That was a long shitty ride. However that Pamper lasted the whole trip! It handled my old lady’s heavy period like a pro!😂😂😂
The new greyhound busses have individual phone charger outlets on the seats and a cage around the driver once the bus starts rolling, the driver speaks to the passengers by intercom when nearing a station stop so the departing passengers can get ready to disembark the bus. I enjoyed the ride from Panama City to Biloxi . .
My father drove and train driver for over 30ty year for this company and I remember him drive the ny to la express many times and I belive that he has driving that same bus I would ride the express in the summer with him in the door well

"Los Angeles to New York Express" cannot think of anything worse.
I believe flying would be a better option haha
That sounds like a week and a half on buses with at least three transfers 🤢🤢🤢
@micmac99 and you always make ever transfer 100% of the time when using Greyhound, It's their guarantee so at least there's that

I can smell that bus😊 It had a distinct but pleasant aroma and you BETTER have a blanket or a jacket or you'd die from hyperthermia 😂😊
hypothermia you mean?
rode many of these in 1967-75....they all sounded the same.....stopped at most every town along the route..and diners on long trips..
I used to drive for Greyhound in 1972. Great experience
Amazing condition for a 54 year old bus. I have to wonder if it sat idle in a warehouse or garage somewhere.

I like the city busses in the back round. Takes me back when I was a kid in NYC.
When you do a video of an MC6 you MUST open the rear so we can see the engine. Bus videographer statute 23I.5, subsection 2
That is something I would say 😄 🤣
But most definitely
Ooops, further research shows that the original 12V71 has been replaced by an 8V71, so the statute mentioned does not apply. :-)

Rare MCI MC-6!!! These had the 12V71’s and I think the first to be 102” wide (as opposed to 96” which was the standard).
Yes sorry I didn't get a shot of the engine compartment would have been nice to see that aswell
later repowered with 8V71T's.
The 15 Canadian MC6s are all 4-speed and 12V71

Ten of those MC 6 ran coast to coast in Canada one of the few places where 102’s could run legally. 🇨🇦
