Today Apple is viewed as a juggernaut of a tech company. And it is. With a market value of 1.8 trillion dollars the company became the most valuable in the world as of July 2020. But things haven’t always been this way. At one point, Apple was on the brink of bankruptcy. But there was one product Apple released that helped turn the tide and set them on course for success. That was the iMac and in this video I’m going to explain how it helped save the company.

No PCs anywhere on campus, it wasn't til high school that i started seeing and using PCs and windows regularly in school. But at my high school we had both Macs and PCs, macs for the more advanced classes like digital photography and production departments along with the science classes and we used windows for the computer programming and computer networking classes as well as in the computer labs

Still have my iMac G3 in 2020. Speakers need to be replaced but I upgraded the memory and storage to their max values. This iMac was originally purchased because I was interested in iMovie and iTunes and had no interest to moving from Windows to a Mac. But it actually was the first of many Apple products for me. This iMac DV from 2001 runs great and no fan like the new MacBook Air.

I completely agree with you, that the CRT iMac saved Apple Computer. However, at the same time as the iMac Apple sold another system that, I wanted so very badly the G3 All-in-One because this computer had everything which, included the following: a 15-inch Sony CRT, internal floppy drive, internal Zip drive, built-in AV card, and internal CD-ROM drive. Plus it also had three (3) open internal PCI card slots for adding a Firewire-400 card and USB card.
What Steve Jobs did was an excellent piece of marketing! He made the iMac (with the same processor as the G3 All-in-One) look both cool and hip and was able to charge more and give less of a value to the buyer because unlike the G3 All-in-One the iMac had no floppy drive, Zip drive, or AV card. What can you say, even today good looks helps to sell products.

what also made the iMac and iBook great was a built in modem. What made iBook so great was Wifi. It was was one the first to have Wifi built in. This was at a time when the Internet in the early days and users needed simplicity and less periphery... iMac was very much plug and play. These Macs also helped the adoption of Mac OS X into mainstream.

One critical factor that saved Apple after Steve Jobs' returned was eliminating the incompatibilities between PCs and Macs. USB meant they could share the same keyborads and mice. When USB flash drives became a thing, they were cross-compatible. They also made Macs capable of reading PC file formats like jpeg, gif, mpg, mp3, and Microsoft Office PC files. That made the Mac far more capable of coexisting with the PC since it's important for offices to be able to share and look at the same documents on their machines. Incompatibilities would also be unthinkable with internet, email, and LAN file transfers.

Throughout almost 20 years of using iMacs I still to this day get PC users, in one generation or another, who mock me for the design, no matter if it's the plastic white, the silver aluminium or the current thin design.
They usually then tout their, "gaming rig" and I always honestly state, "yeah I don't like my computer looking like a rainbow bomb" and WOW they get so offended... It's not that I'm arguing hardware specs, but aesthetics ARE important to people.
