History of the MacBook

  • The first generation of MacBook was a departure from the iBook in more than just its name. Besides the processor, the MacBook featured a polycarbonate body that was thinner and lighter than its predecessor. It utilized the new MagSafe power cable that attached and detached magnetically, a new glossy 13-inch display, sunken keyboard design, and magnetic latch. It improved on the iBooks WiFi networking abilities, offered Bluetooth 2.0, and included two USB ports instead of just one. It also came with a built-in iSight camera that allowed for video recording and a sudden motion detector that would protect the hard drive if the notebook was dropped.
    But despite all its new features, the first MacBook had some problems. First, early models would shut down randomly due to a firmware issue, which Apple responded to with a firmware update. But then many MacBooks would overheat and shut down because the graphics card and hard drive ran too hot. Eventually, Apple issued a recall of early MacBook models because of the issue.

    • @TonyisToking
      @TonyisToking 3 года назад

      @☆ Why even call it Air though? iPhone, a more popular product of Apple’s is simply called iPhone, iPhone Pro. Why not call the redesigned M2 “MacBook Air” that’s rumored a MacBook? It would be more consistent with their lineup. They could then reintroduce a 12” MacBook with actual performance utilizing Apple Silicon and call it MacBook Mini, to match the naming of iPad/iPhone, again. Sure, iPad lineup has an iPad Air… but even that makes no sense, whatsoever. Is it lighter than the iPad Pro? No. Is it lighter than the iPad 8th Gen? Yes, by one whole ounce… and soon the standard iPad design will probably be dropped for the new design… making it the same weight and dimension as the iPad Air? Or maybe… they just call it iPad 9th generation, drop the Air, and cleanup their lineup. This is my prediction. To recap… iPhone Lineup: iPhone Mini, iPhone, iPhone Pro - iPad Lineup: iPad Mini, iPad, iPad Pro - MacBook Lineup: MacBook Mini, MacBook, MacBook Pro - Mac Desktop Lineup: Mac Mini, iMac, Mac Pro. Just makes too much freakin sense and goes back to the 2x2 punnet square that Steve Jobs laid out wayyy back round the turn of the century that returned Apple Macintosh to its glory. Come back to this comment in 1-2 years and we’ll see what happens! Exciting times regardless of what they call these things.

    Good Video, mostly good research, but...
    4:35 - the MacBook had not a single port more (especially not USB! After all, Apple "introduced" USB in the home computing market), the opposite was the case. It lost the modem port and gained an extra audio in
    4:40 - the 2005 iBooks had a sudden motion sensor too ;)
    5:22 - Unibody MacBook in late '08 no dedicated trackpad button. MacBook Air 2009 - dedicated trackpad button...

    • @YoBaMo1
      @YoBaMo1 6 лет назад +12

      I don't mind. Alot of devices are started to transition into USB-C 5 years from now we are not going to even complain about it.

    • @sagew7377
      @sagew7377 6 лет назад +12

      Not an issue at all. Wireless and USB C are the future.

    • @Legority
      @Legority 6 лет назад +15

      Sage Wysocki I’m not complaining about the transition to USB-C, I’m talking about how there’s ONLY TWO PORTS, and one is used for charging (not including headphone jack)

    • @YoBaMo1
      @YoBaMo1 6 лет назад +3

      If you’re not deep into the apples ecosystem it can be limited but if you are deep into the apple ecosystem then it’s not too bad cuz of Airplay [you can beam your display onto the tv through Apple TV] Speakers through AUX or Bluetooth/AirPlay if your into video/video productions ur gonna use Multi USB hub anyways I never seen an editor/Music Producer that’s happy with even 8 ports. iCloud is good for uploading photos and things that are not within terabytes. Gaming is some thing Macs are not good at so we just gonna ignore that part of the conversation.

    • @sagew7377
      @sagew7377 6 лет назад +1

      YoBaMo1 Yes, I use my MacBook for non-professional use so two USB ports are totally sufficient when I can Airplay whatever I need to my Apple TVs. If you need more ports, then the four on the MacBook Pro seem sufficient.

    Can we take a moment to appreciate that the base 2015 MacBook had 256gb storage! My late 2019 MacBook Pro only came with 128gb storage. I always disregarded this MacBook at the time but man the storage was ahead of the game! haha even now in 2020 the base model MacBook Air and MacBook Pro only come with 256gb storage.

    3:04 Well yeah of course the iBook G3 Snow is only gonna come in white. It literally has “snow” in its name; last time I checked snow is white so not sure what people were confused about as far as coloring for this device. Now as for the G4, I could see the confusion there as they could’ve added some color in that model since it didn’t have the Snow in its name but hey I’m not an Apple designer so what do I know? 🤷🏻‍♂️
