Some crazy fun facts you guys missed:
The Classical/spanish guitar on Who Needs You was recorded by John Deacon.
Sheer Heart Attack was actually an older song that was going to be included in the album by the same name... imagine that!

    • @goesjem
      @goesjem 7 дней назад

Sheer Heart Attack was written by Roger for that album, but was not finished. It was properly recorded in 1977.

@@goesjem Yup. It was actually finished (Just a little differently from the actual song we know) but they weren't completely happy with it so they decided to leave it out of the album and rework it later. It just didn't fit into A Night at the Opera and even less at A Day at the Races...

Queen are responsible for my irrepressible love for music. They were my first musical love and are still my absolute favorite band. My first contact with Queen was a mixtape of my older brother, who got it from a schoolmate. After that I bought one LP after another from their catalog.
    My Top 5:
    1. Queen II
    2. A Night At The Opera
    3. Queen I
    4. A Day At The Races
    5. Sheer Heart Attack
(HM: 6. Jazz, 7. News Of The World, 8. The Game, 9. Innuendo, 10. The Works)

Great show! My picks: 1) Sheer Heart Attack; 2) Innuendo; 3) Night at the Opera; 4) Queen II; and 5) Day at the Races. I was very fortunate to see Queen live in London, UK at the Wembley Empire Pool Arena in 1978 - excellent concert, one of the best I ever saw. It was their News of the World tour, so that album would be my honorable mention.

First song I heard from Queen was "Killer Queen",
I thought it was a novelty song, but otherwise didn't think much of it.
A friend told me someone he knew bought "Sheer Hear Attack" and he didn't like it.
Me and my friend used to record songs from the radio.
He recorded "Prophets Song" and didn't know what band it was.
But we listened to it over and over.
    A couple weeks later,
I spent the night at his house,
we would wait for songs on the radio to record all night and
watch the late night tv shows that played music.
    (This was yearsss before MTV)
Suddenly the "Bohemian Rhapsody" video comes on.
    Keep in mind,
we never heard the song before and the album had yet to come out.
We found out it was Queen, but didn't know the title of the song.
We were both shocked, after it was over that's all we talked about.
That's when we realized this was the same band that did
    "Killer Queen" and "Prophets Song".
The next day we rode our bikes to the record store.
Thats when we saw "Queen II".
we figured "Bohemian Rhapsody" was on it,
because the album cover was the same as the video.
Checking the track listing didn't matter,
because we didn't know that "Bohemian Rhapsody"
was the name of the song.
Took it home listened to it,
actually stayed up all night listening to it over and over.
great album, but the song was not on it.
Finally "A Night At The Opera" came out, a couple weeks later.
I didn't have money to buy it,
so me and my friend (same one)
talked another friend into buying it.
Then talked him into lending it to us.
He got the album back about 2 months later.
One day he came to my house to get it.
My parent weren't home and we wouldn't let him in.
We had him come to the kitchen window, I had the screen off.
My friend held one end while handing to him.
A one point he was playing tug of war with the Queen album.
I was rolling on the floor laughing
Now decades later we talk about it and laugh our asses off.
Then I ended up getting it for either Christmas or my birthday.
    A little side note,
My copy must have been a second printing,
    because the cover was glossy.
Our friends copy was a flat white.
And because it was a flat white,
when he got it back it was pretty dirty.
We tried to clean it, but that only made it worse.

      Great story 😅
When I was 16, my parents went off for a one week holiday and gave my brother and me money to buy food. The first thing we did, as soon as they closed the door behind them, we went to the record shop in the nearby city, to buy all the records we have always wanted with that money.... 😅
I bought a night at the opera and a day at the races and my brother Queen 2 and Sheer heart attack.
We were on a shopping spree and it was fantastic 😅

      @queenandi5834 3 дня назад

Great story. But I have a question. How could you have listened to The Prophet’s Song even before A Night At The Opera came out? Even that song was the last song the band worked on and they finished the song on the morning of the day they had to present the album to the press and the record company.

    • @islandhorizonvideos8230
      @islandhorizonvideos8230 3 дня назад

@@queenandi5834 My friend recorded it from a radio station I think it was KCRW,
which was a college radio station,
I guess they got a pre-release of the album.
That was about two weeks before the first showing of the video of Bohemian Rhapsody which was also before the album came out.
We had no clue that both songs were from the same band, much less the same album.
I remember first listening to A Night at the Opera and the song came on,
Queen at that moment became our favorite band.

Amazing frontman and vocalist probably the best ever, virtuouso guitarist par excellence, amazing drummer in RT and bassist in JD. One of the most creative bands in Rock history and who did things with panache and oomph. Amongst my top 10 bands of all time any genre.

Flash theme, In The Space Capsule (Roger’s drumming is fire here) The Kiss (amazing vocal by Freddie) , the incredible Battle Theme (fking ROCKING 🤘) and Hero is an amazing track. I liken it to like a radio play of sorts, like a musical audio book with clever usage of film dialogue interspersed throughout. Its a wonderful record. My only complaint is the tracks are too short.

While Queen did have proto thrash songs on their 1973 debut (i.e., Son And Daughter, Keep Yourself Alive, Modern Times Rock 'N' Roll and Liar), I still say Budgie introduced the first thrash song in 1973 with Breadfan, followed up in 1974 with Crash Course in Brain Surgery. But Queen's Stone Cold Crazy from 1974 is definitely one of the earliest ones, followed up by Sabbath's Symptom of the Universe in 1975, Heart's Barracuda in 1976, and Judas Priest's Dissident Aggressor and Styx's Miss America both in 1977.

Wow, where to start? Hack: Freddie wrote Somebody to Love which appears on Day at the Races, not Night at the Opera. Perhaps, you meant to talk about You're my Best Friend which was written by JOHN Deacon. Roger TAYLOR is the drummer. No, Roger Deacon in there - you said it twice. Next, Martin: sorry to break it you, but Roger plays the rhythm guitar on Sheer Heart Attack. Brian only does the weird feedback "solo" - check your lner notes. Yes, this song in particular was making fun of the punkers. Apparently Freddie had a brief run-in with Sid Vicous. Pete: yes, Night at the Opera and Day at the Races are sort of mirror images to each other. It was thought of that way by the band too - hence the two titles being taken from Marx Brothers movies. Almost forgot - Fire and Water is by Free, not Bad Company.
My top, by the way is: 1. Jazz, 2. Sheer Heart Attack, 3. Queen 1, 4. News of the World, 5. Night at the Opera.

Did you mean 'You're My Best Friend' when you were talking about John Deacon's great contribution on Night at the Opera?

Yes I was. I also had "Roger on the brain" and kept saying Roger Deacon instead of John Deacon. It was a long day 😴. Thanks for watching and welcome to the channel. Cheers

Don't want to burst any Brian May bubbles but he did not play that Spanish guitar on Who Needs You.
It wasn't even a guest guitarist (like Steve Howe on Innuendo)...
It was our own John Deacon who played all the acoustic guitar on that song - also playing on a number of other Queen songs!

    • @GuitarHack66
      @GuitarHack66  2 года назад

It is a John song yes but I've read that the acoustic solo was done by Brian. Thanks for watching. Cheers

I agree that the 70's output is the strongest but it sounds on many like they went all downhill in a big fashion.. Really? Why is that? Still good songwriting, still quite varied, stilll good hooks.. Yes. Some of it is more dated and they did start with fillers beyond The Game but I still think Queen in the 80's is better than many other bands. Perhaps not the all time best but easily better than your average band. I rather listen to 80's Queen than Pink Floyd pre Atom Heart Mother, Dio in the 90's, Def Leppard post Hysteria, Gary Moore post early blues-years, Iron Maiden in the 90's or post Dance of Death. Yeah. Not bad at all - For me.
If Queen only had 80's material they wouldn't be one of my favorite bands but I would still enjoy them rather much.
    My ranking?
    5. Jazz
    4. A Day at the Races
    3. Sheer Heart Attack
    2. A Night at the Opera

Fire and Water is from Free Hack, not from Bad Company. I see how you confused the two seeing both are fronted by Paul Rodgers! Also, it's John Deacon and Roger Taylor, not Roger Deacon...haha

The hits have killed this band for me. I've gone back and listened to their earlier albums and ya much better but still not nearly enough of a draw for me to spend any time with. Guess you had to be there.
