This car actually has passive rear steer. So the more you push it the less it understeers. The rear suspension has these things called delta links, which essentially have play in the camber and toe of the wheels. So, under load, the delta links allow the rear wheels to adjust to the driving condition and appropriately bring the rear end around the corner as if it were being independantly steered from the front. Its an awesome feeling.
the 850 actually has a very responsive turbo with low spool time. the "lag" actually comes from the ecu limiting torque before 4k rpm to protect the connecting rods. I own many highly modified cars, and ive got to say, my tuned 850 turbo is one of my absolute favorites, and you're right! the 5 speed manual def wakes things up. mine is swapped with an m56h gearbox. they take mods quite well and can put down gobs of power, with really impressive torque numbers especially!
They are very nice cars but here in ny they rust under the back seat to the point where they become very unstable. Just a very important thing to check if getting one that is very used
Nice! Sounds like you’ve had your tuned already :) Oh I didn’t realize the booster seat was in other models outside of the country, there was just a label that said “US only”
being an early t5, you will have "reverse intercooler piping" and the conical turbo. shouldn't have much lag even with std ecu. The first gen 850 t-5 (later badged t5) were very aggressive in power delivery. sounds a bit down on power. with a car this age, check the actuator on the turbo, tighten so it doesnt open wastegate untill 3-4 psi (look up how to do this). watching more video boost doesn't sound right.
👍 great wagon 👌 i got me a sedan 1997 850 T5 5 speed manual end is much more faster aceleration 🤜 I race honda civic SI and aim in front of I'm always this VOLVOS trully are very reliable and that TURBO sound is superb 😀 hallo from. VOLVO CARS SAN DIEGO CALIFORNIA 😊😊😊😊👋
Great video. There's this crazy guy from the UK that did a twin engine setup on one and took it to track days: ruclips.net/video/P7By57M8HRU/видео.html Also check out The Topher's 850 R: ruclips.net/video/0rjOc9JMvyM/видео.html I'm not sure of the claim but pretty sure these we're know as the wagons that, "You can fit a sheet a plywood flat in the rear." So yeah, it would make a cool camper in a sense. Which also reminds me of the one that James May used in the "Africa" special on Top Gear. I loved when Richard Hammond was in the back of his WRX cooking beans, hilarious.
Dude that twin engine car is nuts. Super cool. Been a fan of Topher’s R. That thing is flawless. That Top Gear special was so good, I have a bugeye myself and it looks just like Hammond’s car in that episode. Love it

I love my 850 GLT. I paid 300 dollars for it, and used it daily for a couple of years.
Mine has Automatic 4 speed transmission, but its fun to drive.
Beautiful video man
Appreciate the kind words - Thank you!

Wise words. Rust is no joke on the east coast.

And when you said that you can find the booster seat only in USA Volvo's, not true.
