Rusty Cooley is a humble dude. definitely make you feel like you can jam with him and even if you suck hed be like "cool, i like what you did there. now add this and improve on this". idk he just seems genuinely human.
+Rodolfo Ramirez I used to have private lessons with him when I was living in Houston between 14-15 and this was approximately 10 years ago. I remember the first solos he taught me was Diary of Madman.. he's a huge Rhoads fan :P Once he let me play an Ibanez RG model, I believe, it was custom painted so it sort of changed colour depending on how you looked at it was cool.. He made fun of me for getting a Gibson instead an Ibanez haha but he played that too and it sure sounded great to me even with its vintage pickups, 22 frets and no floating tremolo hahaha.. I hope this gives you a better image of Rusty! Peace :)
We love Jose's enthusiasm for the metal community and Dean Guitars. We need more people to be as motivated and supportive as he is. Look at the positive, he's working hard to bring this content and interview to you. And so are we.
+Michael Gomez He actually made the video better/more watchable for me. Not that I don't like Rusty Cooley. His music is amazing. But that interviewer just made things better for me.
This video is the only thing waking me up in the morning. Ive considered quitting guitar at times but Rusty is a huge inspiration for me. All i need is practice, a drummer, bassist and a backup guitarist and ill be set to MAYBE find success but no successful person sits on their gift. Work+effort+time=Success
No Ryan. Jose is awesome, a great champion of the Dean brand. he is the Program Director at Sirius XM Liquid Metal. he works very hard to help bands be successful and in many cases he is the first radio DJ to play bands (like Lamb of God) who have gone on to great success. We appreciate his energy and how hard Jose works on a LIVE webcast for us.24 hours of live video is not easy. Give us a break and look at the positive, at least we provide this content live during NAMM free of charge for you.
i must admit that i was really, surprised to hear this guy talk so openly about mistakes, but i think that we could all learn a great deal from his advice here,
Rusty is a GREAT guy. I've known him for a few years, and he is as humble as he is virtuosic. The Real Deal. Kudos to Dean for continuing to push the envelope and deliver QUALITY metal machines that look fantastic and sound KILLER. ....and give Jose a break. That dude RULES the Sirius airwaves with his Liquid Metal program. His passion is what makes him the best at what he does. Horns high Jose!!!
I really love what Rusty had to see towards the end of the video. Glad the host prompted the response because what Rusty said was exactly what I needed to hear.
^What if it was Jose who typed this? Haters gonna hate! lol Jose is Badass! him having energy like that means he's loving what he's doing, PLUS it means he's in great health condition as well! Keep it up!
@deanguitarsvideos this colour is really cool, I think you guys should also release the RC7 and RC7X in the original red colour that Rusty's first one was, and maybe blue too!
jose's attitude is awesome, and he relates to the players and fans alike.we need a champion for the metal movement that isn't a player but is like a super fan too,and thats Jose!!! and rusty kicks wicked ass!!!!!
I've taken lessons from Rusty, in person. He's famous because of his ability to combine his considerable music theory with his incredible technique. Frankly, this vid doesn't even come close to showing his talent. I'm not a fan of his band, but I can see and hear the virtuosity of his compositions in the recordings.
me and rusty had each other on myspace for years man the guy is now like super god!! its crazy. feel his pain man i missed one note at my gig so annoyed lol :D
Use your forearm muscles to alternate pick (really it looks more like pushing strings) and wrist for playing at different angles over the fretboard. If you pick using mostly your wrist, it seems you might burn out faster while practicing. I dunno, it's just how I go about playing. It isn't the same for all (just look at Marty Friedman). Anywho, Rusty isn't my cup o' tea but he certain does know his shizz.
@ DeanGuitarsVideos You know how it is, people LOVE to be overly critical and pump negative comments into anything. I think Jose is a passionate dude who obviously enjoys what he does...and how anyone can fault that, especially a musician [who pursues an art emphasizing creative expression] is way beyond me. While I don't use Dean Guitars, I applaud you guys, Jose, and Rusty for videos like these. Keep up the good work!
Awesome comment. It's weird how people see enthusiasm as being somehow "phony." Actually, maybe the guy was just legitimately pumped to be doing what he was doing. Good for him!
great playing for sure,,,not blown away by the guitar sound though, I would love to hear that shit on a Les Paul or a Jackson, only my personal opinion
You would expect the interviewing guy to be so fake and stuff because of what he's wearing but he seems like a really awesome guy, he had no awkward shit that people who interview have!
Fuck, him and MAB jammin' together? What I would have paid to see that. I own the MAB Armour Flame and it's the best guitar on the planet, as far as I am concerned. I love this one too with the exception of the finish. That's a little too over-the-top for me, but if it were in like an off white or matte black? Rusty is such a badass. When I hear people talk about the best shredders, they never seem to mention Rusty's name! He just needs more exposure, and he'll get the mojo he deserves \m/
Fucking great advice , sometimes I find myself griping about shit like that after gigs but you know what i'm gonna think twice next time and fucking accept mistakes move on
Is that a Fender Deluxe he's using?.....to all those who's putting him down....this guy has done his hours of practice and knows his stuff...also these guys are very positive and care about fellow players.....maybe that does not fit with the negative image allot of metal seems to project !!

The interviewer may have a little too much energy, but he definitely brought out a lighter side in rusty
+Michael Gomez He actually made the video better/more watchable for me. Not that I don't like Rusty Cooley. His music is amazing. But that interviewer just made things better for me.
The part about recovering from mistakes and not beating yourself up and projecting it to your fans is sage advice.
10 years ago id imagine youve made tremendous progress but you gotta screw up to learn how to not screw up haha
Everytime I see him riff and solo my face melts a little bit more.
That's an amazing story man - Keep it up.
Wow... I love that fingerboard!!
that axe would be sicker in reverse colours, black body, neon green pickups.
ottawadrummer that colour scheme was already taken by the ibby universe!

You got that right!! Thanks for commenting, you guys rock!
I am in love with this guitar.
i must admit that i was really, surprised to hear this guy talk so openly about mistakes, but i think that we could all learn a great deal from his advice here,

Awesome dude. Great personality and attitude about music.
I really love what Rusty had to see towards the end of the video. Glad the host prompted the response because what Rusty said was exactly what I needed to hear.
"needly's needly's and some chuggie chuggies"
That cracked me the fuck up.
Rusty really knows how to make our strings sing!
This guy is rad and down to earth and freaking shreds too man
that's some great advice thanks Rusty and he's right its all about the recover.
Great job, Rusty! You're right about talking to fans (I have about 4...) I always say "Glad you enjoyed it! We really love playing for you!"

Jose is a fun guy to have interviewing all these artist. Dean has an amazing assortment of guitars I'm a huge fan
There's a grey one on ebay right now with a fixed bridge. It's a usa model though and is going for 2000 bucks.
I like the interviewer. I like his enthusiasm about it and he talked for only 2 minutes and then let us hear rusty's power
Love the new cutout on the top horn, though a slight pet peeve of non-matching headstocks still remains x.x could the problem be rectified?
honestly i might not be the biggest fan of rusty's songs, but he is an unbelieveble amazing person, teacher and a badass shredder!
^What if it was Jose who typed this? Haters gonna hate! lol Jose is Badass! him having energy like that means he's loving what he's doing, PLUS it means he's in great health condition as well! Keep it up!

hey dean you guys should do a pointy v, with matching headstock, sorta like the one you did for dave shankle!
jose's attitude is awesome, and he relates to the players and fans alike.we need a champion for the metal movement that isn't a player but is like a super fan too,and thats Jose!!!
and rusty kicks wicked ass!!!!!
Is that Aragorn's ring on the index finger of his right hand?

Are these guitars available yet in this color?
Awesome guitar!
I like this disco...
Rusty : "Last night I had a couple of mistakes."
Me : "...There is hope."
Just a random comment reminding you that you posted this comment 8 years ago

me and rusty had each other on myspace for years man the guy is now like super god!! its crazy. feel his pain man i missed one note at my gig so annoyed lol :D

The guitar is not your enemy! Stop fighting it!

Great Rusty! Very good, indeed we have to take the best fun of things in life! guitars&music are a blessin' :)

Is this guitar going to be the same price as the RC7E?
Is this going to be released in this color? Mass produced?
Rusty's guitars rock! I own two!

Wait till you hear his new stuff!
THe Shred?
Look some of his stuff up.
I'll say this much, Jose has a ton of energy, but let's be fair: we clicked on this to see and hear Rusty!
Such a nice guitar. I wonder how much it costs.

My thoughts exactly.

Awesome comment. It's weird how people see enthusiasm as being somehow "phony." Actually, maybe the guy was just legitimately pumped to be doing what he was doing. Good for him!
I'm going to be honest... I like Jose, I like his enthusiasm.
did he say Stratovarius or Stradivarius?
Well said.
Rusty is Viking Metal.
A. Solid human being
I still don't know where that Renegade TV series originated. Namastè.
If metal had motivational speakers, here's your man
great playing for sure,,,not blown away by the guitar sound though, I would love to hear that shit on a Les Paul or a Jackson, only my personal opinion
I got the wraith pattern

He sculpted the upper horn down too.
Shreddy Krueger.... chapeau!
@san7908 uh no. I know "that guy", that's his personality.
Fucking great advice , sometimes I find myself griping about shit like that after gigs but you know what i'm gonna think twice next time and fucking accept mistakes move on
nice!
what a god
Never seen a Dean guitar and a Fender amp in the same room. :-p
Great interview lmao!!!!

Negative imagine?
please tell me you're talking about the interviewer..
So worried about high fret access. .. has bolt on neck ....
Herpderp
I miss the days when Rusty played power metal...
cool
Cool
Cant stand that interviewer. Rusty however is the man. He has the chops the attitude and the look. Now he needs a killer band.
Stradivarius, violin.
rusty started the demon-ish guitar riffs... imagining the demon is rising up slowly (demon laugh) from the ground!... \m/
Basically yeah..
Hahaha this guitar is badass, I want 7 of them
