iPhone 4S still on iOS 8.2 - ruclips.net/video/G6j4hwjdJNA/видео.html For those of you with an iPhone 4S- if it works for you, that's great! I'm not saying the 4S is completely unusable, because it's not. But the fact remains that it's much slower on iOS 9 than it should've been, and sticking it with iOS 8 just would've made more sense. That said, I do want to hear what you all think- did iOS 9 kill the 4S?
Two months ago, I've downgraded from iOS 9.3.5 to iOS 8.4.1 on my 4S, and jailbroke it. - Battery life increased in over 300% when the phone is idle (seriously). - No more constant hangs on everything. - It doesn't start to get excessively hot again. - If I want to have an iOS 6/7 experience, all I need to do is open CoolBooter tweak, for dualbooting. If you have an 4S, just do it... With caution, of course.
same! ik im a little late but my iPhone 4S lasts 2 weeks in a full charge (idle mode) and i got shocked it was 1% when i look at it after 2 weeks and it's battery is degraded so bad
Deryx lol really? Then android is worse lol. Since most androids already slows down in the first year of use, either you had updated its firmware or not. In fact, there's no android exists that can stay fresh and strong after 1-2 years of heavy use without any factory resets necessary like apple do.

IOS 7 was absolute gold on the iPhone 4S. I made the mistake of updating it again and again and again... Until I think it was. iOS 9.2 and it was unbelievably slow to the point where I couldn't stand using the phone anymore. It made me so mad that I switched to Android! Ditched the 4s in September of last year. Sad, loved that phone so much!
One of my issues is Apple doesn’t allow you to downgrade to previous versions (at least beyond a certain point). I would have a lot less issues with their update policies if they allowed you to downgrade more. Or at the very least, widen the net of firmware versions that are allowed to include iOS versions of the last few years. In fact, I hesitate to update iOS to the newer versions because of this, not until some time have passed (I stayed on 10.3.3 mainly because of the horror stories of iOS 11).
I still own the 4S, and while it's terribly slow, I appreciate the fact that they're trying to make it work in 2018. My take on this is that they shifted their focus from giving the best experience, to just making it functional in the modern day. They did this to compete with low end phones from the android market, which doesn't make perfect sense since they're not really advertising it anymore, and it's been 7 years since its release so that's understandable. But if this device didn't receive the iOS 9 update, it will become as good as a feature phone. This shift in focus is sad, but considering the competitive market today, it's easy to see why they made this move.
It is not competitive with low end android phones any more,In India a 100$ phone like meizu m5note, u will get at least smooth basic working, gesture control, portrait photos, slow motion video, 1080p display which is comparable to iPhone X than this terrible thing, face unlock, fingerprint scanner, multi window mode, OTG support etc which makes it much usable than buying an old iPhone.Even lesser old iPhone 5s costs around 200$ dollar here, and it cannot compete android phones at that price
I agree. My third generation iPad (2012), was lightning fast with its original software. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of updating it all the way to iOS 9 until it couldn't update anymore. Now it's a EXTREMELY slow, laggy, mess.
I have an iPod Touch 5th generation, which has the same A5 chip and 512 mb of RAM as the iPhone 4S, and it runs fine on iOS 9.3.5. The spotlight search, notifications, and control center come up very quickly, as fast a a modern iPhone. The app switcher comes up a fraction of a second later, but that's probably just because of the animation being longer.
Please don't ramble that much. 10 minutes just to say three things: 1 - Yes it did slow down 2 - I'm glad it's still supported 3 - You can downgrade "easily". Try to be more concise please :)
I was surprised more people didn't see how obvious his rambling was, literally made the point a few minutes into the video and then repeated himself a dozen times. Nice presentation though.
I still use my iPad 2 at night to watch RUclips, or Twitch. Only issue is the apps will crash above 720p quality. But it's fine. Not slow. Sometimes it freezes for a min, but that's only once a week.
Well damn, I've been using the 4s for the past 4 years and the ipad mini for about 5 years. But while both of them got a decent performance hit with ios 9 I still think they are perfectly usable. Only recently have I started getting problems with apps not being supported, or crashing but I could easily run with them for the next two years at least. My one problem is that the 16gb can only handle a page and a half of apps with my music.
My 4s still works today, the only problems are that it no longer uses a cellular network (because I decided to remove its plan and upgrade to an SE), it’s ability to hold a charge at this point is terrible and it’s got ios 9. This one phone has been with me since 2014, and I still love it.
The 4s was my first iPhone and I went through four because of the glass construction. I dropped two and shattered the screens(one from only 10” inches) and the power button on one just stopped working after a month. I still have a 6 and I’m hoping it makes it till fall when a new iPhone comes out. It’s overheating lately.
I used the 4s up to until recently and it did the job as it was supposed to do it. But once I got my new phone, I couldn't use it anymore...so I downgraded it to iOS 6...and it's really snappy!
Wow we’re the same age. All this time I thought you were like a year or 2 older lol. Hopefully Apple doesn’t kill the 5S like this. The 4S used to be blazing fast, it’s sad how it ended up.
Viewing on iPhone 4S running iOS 9.3.5. I fucked up, and I can't downgrade for various reasons. I can't afford a new phone, I've had this since launch day and didn't know any better, so I kept upgrading. Help.
My iPod touch (5), which is running its latest version, iOS 9, is fucked.. I haven't replaced the battery on it, yet, and it only lasts up to 30 minutes from full battery, and just to mention, it charges up to 100% in around 10 minutes. It is also slow AF
What about the update that overheated all the 4s wifi chips? Happened to mine and I had to put it on an ice pack whenever I used wifi or it wouldn’t stay connected
Owl one Gaming yep just download ipsw from ipsw.me and restore with itunes. If you are not sure how then just google. I’m sure you’ll find some tutorials :)
my parents bought me a iphone 4s for christmas in 2016 the charger came broken and it ran pretty okay although i still use it i think its pretty good i do think its awfully slow and after jobs death i feel like they just decided to kill off their older devices. im 13 so i dont really think i even need a phone.... im grateful i even have one every phone now is so expensive
The 4S was my last iOS device, and it's still very pretty to look at. Been an Android guy ever since, and I was thinking about dipping my toes in the new X, but I think without the home button, it's more than a little bit Android-ish.
I still use a 5c in 2018 everyday since I got it like 2 weeks after it released and it’s not terrible but it kills me a bit everytime I can’t download an app I want or when my favorite older apps and games either are no longer compatible or cause my phone to overheat really fast but I’m still (somewhat) alive and (not)well
if you can only afford a really old iPhone get a 4, I was shocked at how well it ran when I temporarily dailyed it in December 2017-January 2018 and how many modern apps still run on it. No it wasn't very fast or powerful but being maxed out on iOS 7 it was probably faster than a 4S on iOS 9 lol...
Downgraded my iPhone 4S to 6.1.3 from 8 the first chance I got. For those about to reply saying that's impossible, it really isn't, you can use 3uTools.
FANTASTIC Video. My iPhone 4s has been my daily driver since 2012, after the Palm Pixi. "Upgraded" from a 16GB to a 64B model a few years back. Yes, iOS 9.3.5 can be slow but bearable. Must have patience like a saint to use it. But even on an older 3G Sprint connection, it streams music like Rocky Balboa in his prime. LOL. When the SE 2 comes out, that will be my upgrade. And even then, will be using the 4s as a music device. Can't let all those accessories go to waste!
Kevin Turner you’re better off going android from here, you can get a s5 for pretty cheap today and they are much faster than the phone you have right now
When you say that the apps won't run on the old IOS well, do you mean the stock apps, like texting and calendar, or do you mean more downloaded apps from the app store? Or, worse, both?
What's depressing for me is, when I got a free 4s (default everything, and its original iOS)... it ran smoother than my iPad Mini 2 until I updated it.
You can downgrade it to ios 8! You just need to downgrade it via iTunes to ios 6.1.3 and update it in the iPhone connected to WiFi (duh)... for some reason ios 6 thinks ios 8 is the latest version for 4s lol
I personally use a 4s, people mistake my phone for an iPod. I really only use the 4S for playing Rolling Sky (lags a little), and listening to music on SoundCloud.
android phones do last longer than iphones not by the original maker but by installing lineage which gives my old htc one m8 the latest firmware and its as fast as it was when i bought it , sadly with apples locked down system its not possable to install 3rd party firmware if that was possable you would still see iphone 3g on the streets
You sure 4S is really that slow or is your battery degraded to the point that SoC have to underclock to prevent random shutdown? Maybe change your battery and see if it is still slow.
Same way I will not upgrade my iphone 6s past ios 12 .Am sure I may loose app support. But i will live with such restriction rather than freezing phone.
Video is well done on technical side of things, but it feels too long. You ramble on for a great deal of time about how IOS 9 killed this phone, this doesn't deserve a 10minute video.
I jailbroke my 4S and I was able to downgrade to iOS 8.4.1, it was fine on iOS 9 but the apps would always crash. But when I downgraded to iOS 8, apps started working all of a sudden
I recently got a 6s to replace my 4s but not because of speed but because every second app on the AppStore was not supported although the speed was a problem it didn’t bother me too much
I actually looked on IPSW.me and I can say that Apple is signing iOS 6.1.3 for the 4s and iPad 2 but not for iPad Mini 😣😣😣 I really want to downgrade this thing 😅
I dont believe the iPad mini can be downgraded to iOS 8.4.1. Its not on the list of devices on the iPhone dev wiki that are compatible with OdysseusOTA2, here: www.theiphonewiki.com/wiki/OdysseusOTA2
I still have my first phone which is an iPhone 4, it runs on iOS 7 (my main phone is an iPhone SE now), but it can’t even load the App Store. If I am planning on selling it or giving it away should I downgrade it to iOS 6?
My main problem with my 4s is the fact that I cant run snapchat or any app that uses the camera app other then the camera app itself :L Snapchat might be because it is so heavy with all its features (that isnt even active), but I dont get why other normal apps crashes with the camera for me :/
Dude, you said EXACTLY everything I think about this situation with iPhone 4s. It was my first Apple device and I remember how fast and responsive it was. Great screen, awesome camera. It was like phone from the future. Unfortunately Apple killed it with this damn iOS 9 and Apple doesn’t like to admit to mistakes so they left all users without option to downgrade because that would mean they have made a mistake. My 2 last years with this phone were the worst. Now I’m happy user of iPhone 7 plus and I ALWAYS check in the internet before any update. ✌🏼
@@LaelGames7913 I upgraded from 7 to X this year not because I wanted to I just used an opportunity to do it for free (exchange in my family). I can confirm. No slowdowns whatsoever on 7 till May. I’m glad to hear you’re still using 6s. It was one hell of a phone when it came out.💪🏼
this is why i never update anything apple updated my iPad from ios 6 to ios 8 when i sent it in for repairs, and now it is so slow that it is barely usable even jailbreaking it didnt completely fix the speed issues

It is not competitive with low end android phones any more,In India a 100$ phone like meizu m5note, u will get at least smooth basic working, gesture control, portrait photos, slow motion video, 1080p display which is comparable to iPhone X than this terrible thing, face unlock, fingerprint scanner, multi window mode, OTG support etc which makes it much usable than buying an old iPhone.Even
lesser old iPhone 5s costs around 200$ dollar here, and it cannot compete android phones at that price
I agree. My third generation iPad (2012), was lightning fast with its original software. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of updating it all the way to iOS 9 until it couldn't update anymore. Now it's a EXTREMELY slow, laggy, mess.
sha106b thanks, I will look into that
sha106b could you link a video showing the jailbreak process so that I can jailbreak it, then do what the video link said?
David Bussey Just Google "PhœnixPwn tutorial"
This dude's my age and sounds like he's 25
How old are you anyway
I have an iPod Touch 5th generation, which has the same A5 chip and 512 mb of RAM as the iPhone 4S, and it runs fine on iOS 9.3.5. The spotlight search, notifications, and control center come up very quickly, as fast a a modern iPhone. The app switcher comes up a fraction of a second later, but that's probably just because of the animation being longer.
I still have my iPod 4th generation. It’s so slow and over half the apps in the AppStore isn’t compatible
How it died?
9.3.5
my iPhone 4s is on version IOS 6 and he work really good
Please don't ramble that much. 10 minutes just to say three things:
1 - Yes it did slow down
2 - I'm glad it's still supported
3 - You can downgrade "easily".
Try to be more concise please :)
Kevin Deschênes gotta get that extra RUclips money somehow
I was surprised more people didn't see how obvious his rambling was, literally made the point a few minutes into the video and then repeated himself a dozen times. Nice presentation though.
I still use my iPad 2 at night to watch RUclips, or Twitch. Only issue is the apps will crash above 720p quality. But it's fine. Not slow. Sometimes it freezes for a min, but that's only once a week.
I'm still using one... and hate it so much. It's so slow! Some of my apps want me to update, but I can't!
They should make a second 4s that is like the original but has a better soft wear
poisonous_lonely_girl iPhone SE
Well damn, I've been using the 4s for the past 4 years and the ipad mini for about 5 years. But while both of them got a decent performance hit with ios 9 I still think they are perfectly usable. Only recently have I started getting problems with apps not being supported, or crashing but I could easily run with them for the next two years at least.
My one problem is that the 16gb can only handle a page and a half of apps with my music.
The 4s was such a great phone, still the best looking iPhone
Idk about looks but it's the most reliable one IMO
My 4s still works today, the only problems are that it no longer uses a cellular network (because I decided to remove its plan and upgrade to an SE), it’s ability to hold a charge at this point is terrible and it’s got ios 9. This one phone has been with me since 2014, and I still love it.
The 4s was my first iPhone and I went through four because of the glass construction. I dropped two and shattered the screens(one from only 10” inches) and the power button on one just stopped working after a month. I still have a 6 and I’m hoping it makes it till fall when a new iPhone comes out. It’s overheating lately.
apple killed every single device of theirs after jobs death.
Luka Dobrilović no phones like 6s are liked by many people also the se
I used the 4s up to until recently and it did the job as it was supposed to do it. But once I got my new phone, I couldn't use it anymore...so I downgraded it to iOS 6...and it's really snappy!
Wow we’re the same age. All this time I thought you were like a year or 2 older lol.
Hopefully Apple doesn’t kill the 5S like this. The 4S used to be blazing fast, it’s sad how it ended up.
Get a SE. Great phone and mch faster than 5s.
Scott Clark I have a 6S lol
I’m the same age too
Well the 5s is not getting iOS 12 so have fun
Ice Inducer actually my 5s is still running pretty well
I never updated mine, still works fast but not anything close to newer iPhones
Viewing on iPhone 4S running iOS 9.3.5. I fucked up, and I can't downgrade for various reasons. I can't afford a new phone, I've had this since launch day and didn't know any better, so I kept upgrading. Help.
He knows RUclips...
The video is exactly 10 minutes long...
I feel like u just repeated yourself for 10 mins
*shhhhhhh just let him get the ad revenue*
My iPod touch (5), which is running its latest version, iOS 9, is fucked.. I haven't replaced the battery on it, yet, and it only lasts up to 30 minutes from full battery, and just to mention, it charges up to 100% in around 10 minutes. It is also slow AF
Criticalz well there is a way to downgrade it to 8.4.1. It's just a little more difficult. Look it up
Mike Jacobsen ok, thanks, I'll look it up
What about the update that overheated all the 4s wifi chips? Happened to mine and I had to put it on an ice pack whenever I used wifi or it wouldn’t stay connected
My mum had an iPhone 4s until last week and she never updated it. It only started to break down a month ago and then she got an IPhone X.
iPhone X is crap, just get a iPhone 8 or any Android phone instead
SeniorWasabi, she actually loves it.
The order of the Diamonds, yes, but you're paying more for the same experience
I love mine. Works great.
Dana W, a 1k dollar phone better work great.
Apple is now allowing to downgrade iPhone 4S and iPad 2 to iOS 6.1.3 without any hack.
TheShade247 how
Owl one Gaming just download the 6.1.3 ipsw and restore with iTunes
TheShade247 :o where can I get that
is that all? because i want to speed up my led modded iPhone 4s so i can have it for later sentimental values
Owl one Gaming yep just download ipsw from ipsw.me and restore with itunes. If you are not sure how then just google. I’m sure you’ll find some tutorials :)
5:12 actually Google still supports all of their pixel phones and they still run good even after a few years.
my parents bought me a iphone 4s for christmas in 2016 the charger came broken and it ran pretty okay although i still use it i think its pretty good i do think its awfully slow and after jobs death i feel like they just decided to kill off their older devices. im 13 so i dont really think i even need a phone.... im grateful i even have one every phone now is so expensive
my 4s goes into a reboot loop that only sometimes boots to 7:00pm on Dec 31 1969 with no wifi or cellular :( Only boots with plug
When I had the iPhone 4s it couldn’t update to iOS 8 for some reasons, I still have it but it doesn’t power up so it’s just collecting dust
I down graded it to ios 6, and immediately the 4s is on God mode!
Offtrailed Dino 4s on "God mode" lul
+Deciant...Yeah, um...look up lul on google and I'm sure you will call people that a lot
Offtrailed Dino cant download anything with ios6 lmao
Stunt36 if you want to downgrade you trade the 4s for the 4.
Offtrailed Dino yes there’s also an ota update for iOS 8.4.1
"Apple is known for their extensive testing"
"Apple supports their devices for a long time"
This isn't true, /watch?v=AUaJ8pDlxi8
will you do living witha a 4s in 2019? xD
My dad had a 4. He updated it, and you're right, the update annihilated his phone. He just got the SE two weeks ago.
A friend of mine used the 4s from the beginning. 2 Weeks ago he upgraded to the iPhone 8 due to the 4s being unable to hold up.
Meh downgrade it to iOS 6 via ipsw.me and then it gives you update to iOS 8.1
Please don't play music in the background, it's really distracting
The 4S was my last iOS device, and it's still very pretty to look at. Been an Android guy ever since, and I was thinking about dipping my toes in the new X, but I think without the home button, it's more than a little bit Android-ish.
Martin O I just got the iPhone 8. I love it.
Sean N how does this relate to his comment
HAPPY FROGGY most recent iPhone with a home button?
Yeah I used to have an iPhone 4 with iOS 9 and when I turned it on it took like 5 minutes to actually boot
No, get a 5c, not a 4. They both are the exact same price.
Downgraded my iPhone 4S to 6.1.3 from 8 the first chance I got. For those about to reply saying that's impossible, it really isn't, you can use 3uTools.
Matoegos You can even use itunes. it’s still being signed by apple
How did you do it?
Imagine if iOS 11 was on the iPhone 2g
alpha XD it would blow up as soon as it boots up
Just Nope or just heat up very fast
You would have to upgrade the ram
Owl one Gaming but you need a sodering iron to the ram out
oh my god that basically breaks your iPhone
My dad still uses an iphone4 and refuses to upgrade. He's not even on the latest software version for the 4.
i got the first generation first model iPod Touch running iOS 1.1. The stopwatch was running for about 400+ hours.
i’ve recently downgraded to 8.4.1. you should do a video on it. nice channel
Taylan Özberk cant lol
FLexs why not?
FLexs i just did it last week. what do you mean you can’t?
U can’t downgrade iOS version
@Giannis Hintipas Yes you can downgrade the 4s only, into 8.4.1 and 6.1.3
FANTASTIC Video.
Kevin Turner by then, you might want to downgrade, just cuz. Haaa
Yah great idea it looks ipod btw good for music
Kevin Turner you’re better off going android from here, you can get a s5 for pretty cheap today and they are much faster than the phone you have right now
Kevin Turner Do you not value your time?
Please do a full video about downgrading the 4s to ios 6
Awesome iPhone he already has
When you say that the apps won't run on the old IOS well, do you mean the stock apps, like texting and calendar, or do you mean more downloaded apps from the app store? Or, worse, both?
What's depressing for me is, when I got a free 4s (default everything, and its original iOS)... it ran smoother than my iPad Mini 2 until I updated it.
Did you upgrade it from iOS 5??
Great review and information thanks for the video
My grandpa still has the 4s
Riley Bowman is she satisfied? I wanna buy it for older person
+enpeen tt I use it u can only use 3 apps at once tbh
Big Fluff i ordered iphone 5c but thx anyway
You can downgrade it to ios 8! You just need to downgrade it via iTunes to ios 6.1.3 and update it in the iPhone connected to WiFi (duh)... for some reason ios 6 thinks ios 8 is the latest version for 4s lol
iPhone 4s Has WiFi issue. And I've seen this same problem in 4 different iPhone 4s. What's the point of smartphone when there's no WiFi?
I personally use a 4s, people mistake my phone for an iPod. I really only use the 4S for playing Rolling Sky (lags a little), and listening to music on SoundCloud.
10 min mark 👀
Yeah but he didn’t put any mid roll ads in so it doesn’t matter
Yoshimitsu he did
Yeah now there are. but when i first watched it, he hadn’t put them in
Yoshimitsu am i the only one who doesnt get mid roll ads?
Random Dude probably yeah
android phones do last longer than iphones not by the original maker but by installing lineage which gives my old htc one m8 the latest firmware and its as fast as it was when i bought it , sadly with apples locked down system its not possable to install 3rd party firmware if that was possable you would still see iphone 3g on the streets
Jeremy Cush not true in all cases. Not all phones are bootloader unlockable.
Jeremy Cush noooo
iOS 11 is killing the iPod Touch 6
Ryan The Retro Gamer im on 6 gen ipod on ios 11 and its super usable
I downgraded my iPhone 4s to iOS 6.1.3 yesterday and I'm trying to do the OTA iOS 8.4.3 update but it doesn't update please help me.
You sure 4S is really that slow or is your battery degraded to the point that SoC have to underclock to prevent random shutdown? Maybe change your battery and see if it is still slow.
Well done, man! I REALLY enjoy this video! I can’t believe you’re younger than me!
Apple INTENTIONALLY kills all its products through IOS upgrades. As for products that just work - not under Tim Cooke.
Im never upgrading my ipod touch to iOS 12 its gonna stay on 11.4.1
Same way I will not upgrade my iphone 6s past ios 12 .Am sure I may loose app support. But i will live with such restriction rather than freezing phone.
Android Kills all his products in 2 years
Video is well done on technical side of things, but it feels too long.
Downgrade to iOS 6
I recently got a 6s to replace my 4s but not because of speed but because every second app on the AppStore was not supported although the speed was a problem it didn’t bother me too much
I actually looked on IPSW.me and I can say that Apple is signing iOS 6.1.3 for the 4s and iPad 2 but not for iPad Mini 😣😣😣 I really want to downgrade this thing 😅
Linards Sadovskis if you jailbreak, there's a method on downgrading it to iOS 8.4.1, it's just a little more difficult, but certainly doable.
I dont believe the iPad mini can be downgraded to iOS 8.4.1. Its not on the list of devices on the iPhone dev wiki that are compatible with OdysseusOTA2, here:
www.theiphonewiki.com/wiki/OdysseusOTA2
Mike Jacobsen I already tried it and I was able to downgrade to 8.4.1. But I've never experienced iOS 6 😅 I want to try that 😁
Do it it is easy
You can update back afterwords
You sound older than 18, more like 25
jose salas 35
Same😁
Apple is awesome all of their devices from iphone 5 - 6s I'm still using it's smooth asf smoother than my Galaxy s7 edge and OnePlus 5.
I still have my first phone which is an iPhone 4, it runs on iOS 7 (my main phone is an iPhone SE now), but it can’t even load the App Store. If I am planning on selling it or giving it away should I downgrade it to iOS 6?
My main problem with my 4s is the fact that I cant run snapchat or any app that uses the camera app other then the camera app itself :L Snapchat might be because it is so heavy with all its features (that isnt even active), but I dont get why other normal apps crashes with the camera for me :/
Best youtuber ever!
Great channel 👍🏻This video is so interesting! I wish there were more video like this on RUclips
The 7 seems to be pretty fine rn
Im using a 6s with no slowdowns, so there shouldnt be any problem
@@LaelGames7913 I upgraded from 7 to X this year not because I wanted to I just used an opportunity to do it for free (exchange in my family).
I can confirm. No slowdowns whatsoever on 7 till May. I’m glad to hear you’re still using 6s. It was one hell of a phone when it came out.💪🏼
@@dampelps i got it this year, i was using an iphone 5 before
@@LaelGames7913 Right on👍🏼
How To Downgrade iPad 3 from iOS 9 to a smoother iOS version ?
this is why i never update anything
apple updated my iPad from ios 6 to ios 8 when i sent it in for repairs, and now it is so slow that it is barely usable
even jailbreaking it didnt completely fix the speed issues
