If its ios you need, I reccomend a ipad 2017 edition, super affordable and pretty powerful ios device. But if you insist on a ios daily driver, i would reccomend the 6s. Its cheaper, and you still got great specs and headphone jack.

Eh, I remember people saying that early iOS 10 was quite buggy. Those bugs got fixed in late iOS 10. iOS 11.3 will defo be the big bug fix & iOS 12 will have all the new features to get people excited about it. The 5s won’t get iOS 12 according to the update cycle
Evan 7 nah, iOS 10 before iOS 10.3 (?) was about as buggy as iOS 11 today & iOS 10.3 was the update that fixed iOS 10’s bugs. The same is going to happen for iOS 11. If Apple focused primarily on getting rid of bugs in iOS 12 people are going to be disappointed with it since it’s near impossible to get rid of every single bug & they’ll call out Apple for it. I don’t really think iOS 11 was that buggy anyway, there was way worse updates like iOS 8.0.1 that disconnected you from your carrier & I remember iOS 9 being buggier

I'd go so far to say that the iPhone 5 family and SE are ideal budget iPhones - They all have great app support (with the 5S and SE both being compatible with the latest iOS versions), are reasonably smooth runners and also handle pretty much any core task you'd want a phone to provide just fine. I'm personally using a used Green 5C 16GB as my daily driver and I can safely say that it's great in every aspect in terms of what I use my smartphones for.

I bought the se in November of 2017 because the design was pretty much the same as the 5 series. It’s so much faster and the battery life is great compared to my old 5s. Honestly im hoping for the se 2. Great video though!
I didn’t get the iPhone 5 or 5s but I did get an SE which is basically a 5 with 6s specs and it is the best iPhone I have used yet. Battery life is great, it performs really well on iOS 11 and the size is perfect, you can stick it in your pocket and just forget about it. I hope it lasts as long as the 5 with iOS updates.
That's why I got the 7plus. The matte black finish on the 5 was great but got cancelled. Once it was introduced again, I jumped on it... It's all murdered out...
I have noticed a pattern which may mean that iPhone 5s might get iOS 12 it is as follows: Every single ‘s’ version of an iPhone has gotten 2 iOS versions more then the non ‘s’ version for example IPhone 3g : iOS 4 3GS : iOS 6 iPhone 4 : iOS 7 4s : iOS 9 IPhone 5 : iOS 10 5s : iOS 12??
Nice thinking. I do agree-the 5S is a 64-bit device, so it was powerful enough to run 11. I personally think that no devices will be dropped on iOS 12, since this iOS is not focusing on features (although we are all hoping for Dark Mode and a few other features), instead it’s going to be based on smoothness and debugging. I’m thinking that on iOS 13, these devices are going to be dropped: iPhone 6 and 6+, 5S, possibly iPad Air 1, iPad Mini 2 and 3, iPod Touch 6th generation, but definitely not SE, because it has the iPhone 6S internals, and that iPhone is definitely powerful enough to run iOS 13.
You are totally incorrect. 4/4S were the best. (Antenna gate aside). Moreover, it was the best design. A design that has come back to all major flagship phones. Glass back and front, metal frame. Most people still have their 4/4s.
The 5C was my very first iPhone, and it was an incredible little daily driver up until the very day I bought an iPhone SE upon iOS 11's release. Even today, it's nice to still hold onto my 5C as a replacement to my iPod Touch 5.
I remember getting this back in 2012 after having the 3gs for a few years. At the time it was revolutionary for me and I still look back at this phone with fond memories!

My 5s is a brick. I lost my phone and used it for two weeks recently. Still fast and every app worked. I’ve had it since they first came out. Replaced the screen twice, the battery once, and the charging port once. I’ve dropped it hundreds of time, and a few times in water. Still works great. And the size is great to.
I have been using iPhone 5 since 2013 December. It broke down just last week. I used it enough to think about a premium phone. I was thinking iPhone x or 8 Plus. But, I had enough of iPhone shit. Finally moved to galaxy s9 plus. Fastest phone with the biggest screen. I had a good usage from iPhone 5, I loved it, hope my s9 lasts just as long
I agree. The iPhone 5 was my very first ever phone (my father made me wait until I got a job to pay for my own phone). Aside from sentimental value due to it being my first phone, it truly was special. The only thing it needed to be perfected was the fingerprint scanner, and so when the iPhone 5s came along, that's what it perfected. And I hate Crapple too, that's how amazing the iPhone 5 was and still is.
My mum still uses the 5, I tried getting her over to the SE but she’s happy enough with what the 5 does. I’m still rocking the SE until the SE2 comes out.
Still use mine today. Best iPhone ever. It is the perfect blend of the old cube style of the 4 but also more modern with the aluminum construction. It’s kind of a historic phone too: last iPhone with an old home button, last 32 bit iPhone, last to run the old skeuomorphic style, and arguably the last one influenced by Steve. Mine runs iOS 9.3.5.

Even though I'm definitely an Android guy, I absolutely dig the design of the black iPhone 5. I just love it, I don't know why. And you make great videos, I love watching them. Keep it up!
I was still stuck with an iPhone 3GS by the end of 2013 and I couldn’t update to iOS 7. Shortly after the iPhone 5S came out, I was able to get my hands on an iPhone 5 which the EE shop had a quantity of in the back room, they were intending to clear them out. Sadly, in late 2014 the battery started going wrong but I was still able to hold on til November 2015 and get my iPhone 6S! I plan to get my next iPhone at the end of this year.
iphone 5 maybe nearly 6 years old but was still being sold in 2016 , some operators like kpn were still selling the 4s in a refurb and had that dreaded ios 9 , i still have a 4s on ios 8 and gave my 5 away last year to a family member , the price apple charges should get better and longer support , will be interesting to see how apple kill off the iphone x in the future as its a super fast phone
I totally agree, I only use essential apps in my phone thats run perfectly in iPhone 5 iOS 10. Like Whatspp, Facebook, Instagram, Spotify, RUclips, Waze and a few simple apps I use. I only keep one game at a time in my phone, so I can really focus to finish that game before I move on to other.
My first is the silver iphone is 5. I'm still using it after 3 years! Yeah it has battery issues and had to replace the battery but since I don't have any budget to upgrade yet I can say that I still love this phone :)

I’ve had the SE for a month I just LUVVVVVVV this 5 design, it’s my first iPhone and I love how it fits in my pocket perfectly. If you buy it as a prepaid it is like 160 at least when i got it, if U were thinking about buying an iPhone just go for the SE.
I agree, its the most durable one too in my opinion, I sunk mine, dropped it countlessly and the last time i use it the chamfered edge thing just got rounded and looked more like iPhone 6 shell. I have it replaced simply I needed more storage
While watching this video I went into my old apple drawer and found my iPhone 5. Holding it in my hands I realise how much smaller it is compared to my 7plus. Excited to see the comfort and convenience of my smaller “more usable” iPhone, and it won’t turn on. I’ve been sitting here for about 20 minutes on charges and it’s showing no signs of life, won’t even vibrate. R.I.P me😭😭
The iphone 5 was very resistant. And it had up to 78 tweaks installed and. Sadly. I changed it for an iphone 6. But i still have it. With its jailbreak. And it works good still
I completely agree, so does Apple, that’s why the iPone 5 DNA lived on in the form of the 5S and SE with the SE still being sold right now. I still use my iPhone 5 as my secondary phone to my iPhone X even though I have a newer retired 6 Plus, I prefer the design and feel of the 5 when compared to the 6 and I find myself preferring to use the 5 as the secondary phone I use when I go cycling and stuff. I think that says something. It’s also the only iPhone I feel comfortable enough using without a case. It also looks the best, although I prefer the space grey colour of the SE. The 6 to 7 series were a design disaster with those antenna lines and slippery body oversized body. The iPhone 8 and X look leaps and bounds better but are too fragile to use without a case and too expensive to fix.
I got one for about 40 dollars (after converting my country’s payment) with EarPods. Its a 16 GB slate black and it was a sweet deal because I’ve seen broken ones going for more.
I have the iPhone 5S and its Cousin, the SE. My SE is one great "small" iPhone. I did not feel a need to upgrade until the iPhone 10 was released. I love my iPhone 10; expensive it is, but I am more than satisfied with my purchase. I am looking forward to IOS 12.
I had an iPhone 5 between April 2015 to September 2016 before upgrading to an iPhone 6. It had a badly cracked screen at the end that I intended to replace but my 10 year old at the time brother decided to rip the logic board out and snap it in half!
I'm still using an iPhone 5c after 4 years but am gonna upgrade to an 8 or 8+ soon because my battery life is getting bad. Still a great phone that has lasted me for a long time
I have iphone 5 and iphone x as well . And i also bought iPhone 8 and kept it for 4 weeks .And i didnt found 8/x as revolutionary as 5 .It was something no other mobile offered at that time.
I’m glad I’m still running my 5s on IOS 10.33 in that case. I won’t let IOS 11 anywhere near it because I suspected it would slow it down and I prefer the look of the earlier version anyway!

Just stumbled upon this video and boy i am impressed. Personally i never liked big phones & iphone 5 is the optimum size of how big a phone should be. Probably even 4s size was even more ideal. If apple decide to bring back that size (4s) with latest processor camera & touch ID(yes i do want that) I’d probably buy that one!
A nice video indeed. Just one statement I would oppose: I actually have the iPhone 3GS running the iOS 6… and even when the installation is pretty clean, it's not really fast at all, not by any stretch of the imagination.
Every update should provide a SPEED and STABILITY bump on EVERY device that it was intended to have support for. So, for example, the iOS 7 had to provide speed improvements over the iOS 6 (even on the iPhone 4). And especially today, when the iOS went competely 64-bit... Why does my 5S on 8.4.1 perform so well even when compared against an SE, leaving both the iPhone 6 and 6S's behind?
Nice video. But you’re seriously missing out if you don’t use an iPhone X nowadays. The whole iOS experience on a 5.8” 18:9 OLED with no bezels is the best phone experience I’ve ever had.
It’s better hardware wise, but software wise I’d argue that it hasn’t quite survived as well as the iPhone 5. After comparing the two phones extensively on iOS 11 vs iOS 10, the iPhone 5 felt quite a bit quicker.
My iPhone 5 is kinda horrible. But that's likely because of the aging battery which has been in mine since 2012. Also I always keep it docked in a speaker nowadays which the battery doesn't like so performance is really bad now. Maybe I'll just get a new battery and hopefully see a performance boost. This video was really informative! Now I know that my old iPhone 5 could work well if it had a fresh battery.
The best iPhone in the history of iPhones is iPhone 5 on iOS 6, period. I love this phone so much that I still use it to this day. I have changed its display and battery from Aliexpress and installed iOS 6 using coolbooter untethered. Its like new again.

I have 2 iPhone 5’s and I used coolbooter to boot to IOS 6 on one of them and while for a long time I always thought that version on that phone was the best, it didn’t match up against my iPhone X and the seamless experience with the way it can be navigated at much faster speeds than with a home button
The iPhone was the best looking phone and it was reliable. I used the iPhone till I lost it in 2018 and it was an amazing phone to have. Battery life was not the best, but it ran smoothly on each update and it was easy to use.
Except that the 5s improved and outclassed it in nearly every way. And the SE went beyond that, again. It's literally the worst iPhone in that form factor family.

Not so much about your thoughts on the 5s, but you mention the slowdown of phones. Everybody has it totally wrong about apple slowing down phones to sell you a new phone. It's simply not logical. First, the slow down isn't something the user can see or feel. It has to be measured using software. Second, and more important, if they wanted to sell you a new phone they would have just let older worn out batteries crash your phone so you would run out to buy a new one. The slowdown extended the life of the phone without any visible user interference, therefore would let you keep your phone longer.
Well... That kind of "support" is not actually a support at all. We all know that, by pressing the Accept button for the software downgrades (yup, those can represent anything BUT the upgrades) we actually shorting down the device's lifespan. A good example is an iPhone 4S on iOS 5.1.1 or a 5S on 8.x or 7.x or an iPhone 6 on iOS 8.x. Those bad boys are insanely fast and can actually beat the hell out of the iPhone 7 TODAY.

Aside from sentimental value due to it being my first phone, it truly was special. The only thing it needed to be perfected was the fingerprint scanner, and so when the iPhone 5s came along, that's what it perfected. And I hate Crapple too, that's how amazing the iPhone 5 was and still is.
My mum still uses the 5, I tried getting her over to the SE but she’s happy enough with what the 5 does. I’m still rocking the SE until the SE2 comes out.

Still use mine today. Best iPhone ever. It is the perfect blend of the old cube style of the 4 but also more modern with the aluminum construction. It’s kind of a historic phone too: last iPhone with an old home button, last 32 bit iPhone, last to run the old skeuomorphic style, and arguably the last one influenced by Steve. Mine runs iOS 9.3.5.

@@geneseetrainselevators2448 I dont use the 4s anymore, I upgraded to a 5s on ios 8. Its very fast, I didnt realize how slow the 4s was. I would recommend keeping the 4s at ios 7 max.

I was still stuck with an iPhone 3GS by the end of 2013 and I couldn’t update to iOS 7. Shortly after the iPhone 5S came out, I was able to get my hands on an iPhone 5 which the EE shop had a quantity of in the back room, they were intending to clear them out. Sadly, in late 2014 the battery started going wrong but I was still able to hold on til November 2015 and get my iPhone 6S! I plan to get my next iPhone at the end of this year.

iphone 5 maybe nearly 6 years old but was still being sold in 2016 , some operators like kpn were still selling the 4s in a refurb and had that dreaded ios 9 , i still have a 4s on ios 8 and gave my 5 away last year to a family member , the price apple charges should get better and longer support , will be interesting to see how apple kill off the iphone x in the future as its a super fast phone
I totally agree, I only use essential apps in my phone thats run perfectly in iPhone 5 iOS 10. Like Whatspp, Facebook, Instagram, Spotify, RUclips, Waze and a few simple apps I use. I only keep one game at a time in my phone, so I can really focus to finish that game before I move on to other.
My first is the silver iphone is 5. I'm still using it after 3 years! Yeah it has battery issues and had to replace the battery but since I don't have any budget to upgrade yet I can say that I still love this phone :)
I still like the design of iPhone4/4s more. The life span of iPhone4s and how hard Apple tried to slow it down should be the best evidence why 4s is the best.
I’ve had the SE for a month I just LUVVVVVVV this 5 design, it’s my first iPhone and I love how it fits in my pocket perfectly. If you buy it as a prepaid it is like 160 at least when i got it, if U were thinking about buying an iPhone just go for the SE.

I agree, its the most durable one too in my opinion, I sunk mine, dropped it countlessly and the last time i use it the chamfered edge thing just got rounded and looked more like iPhone 6 shell. I have it replaced simply I needed more storage

While watching this video I went into my old apple drawer and found my iPhone 5. Holding it in my hands I realise how much smaller it is compared to my 7plus. Excited to see the comfort and convenience of my smaller “more usable” iPhone, and it won’t turn on. I’ve been sitting here for about 20 minutes on charges and it’s showing no signs of life, won’t even vibrate. R.I.P me😭😭
The iphone 5 was very resistant. And it had up to 78 tweaks installed and. Sadly. I changed it for an iphone 6. But i still have it. With its jailbreak. And it works good still
I completely agree, so does Apple, that’s why the iPone 5 DNA lived on in the form of the 5S and SE with the SE still being sold right now.
I still use my iPhone 5 as my secondary phone to my iPhone X even though I have a newer retired 6 Plus, I prefer the design and feel of the 5 when compared to the 6 and I find myself preferring to use the 5 as the secondary phone I use when I go cycling and stuff. I think that says something.
It’s also the only iPhone I feel comfortable enough using without a case. It also looks the best, although I prefer the space grey colour of the SE. The 6 to 7 series were a design disaster with those antenna lines and slippery body oversized body. The iPhone 8 and X look leaps and bounds better but are too fragile to use without a case and too expensive to fix.
I got one for about 40 dollars (after converting my country’s payment) with EarPods. Its a 16 GB slate black and it was a sweet deal because I’ve seen broken ones going for more.
I have the iPhone 5S and its Cousin, the SE. My SE is one great "small" iPhone. I did not feel a need to upgrade until the iPhone 10 was released. I love my iPhone 10; expensive it is, but I am more than satisfied with my purchase. I am looking forward to IOS 12.
I had an iPhone 5 between April 2015 to September 2016 before upgrading to an iPhone 6. It had a badly cracked screen at the end that I intended to replace but my 10 year old at the time brother decided to rip the logic board out and snap it in half!

I'm still using an iPhone 5c after 4 years but am gonna upgrade to an 8 or 8+ soon because my battery life is getting bad. Still a great phone that has lasted me for a long time

I’m glad I’m still running my 5s on IOS 10.33 in that case. I won’t let IOS 11 anywhere near it because I suspected it would slow it down and I prefer the look of the earlier version anyway!

Agree with you one hundred percent.If your battery is bad,or buldged go to Apple store and change the battery for $79.You are good to go for couple more years,since apple will support until 2019 fall update.

Just stumbled upon this video and boy i am impressed. Personally i never liked big phones & iphone 5 is the optimum size of how big a phone should be. Probably even 4s size was even more ideal. If apple decide to bring back that size (4s) with latest processor camera & touch ID(yes i do want that) I’d probably buy that one!

A nice video indeed. Just one statement I would oppose: I actually have the iPhone 3GS running the iOS 6… and even when the installation is pretty clean, it's not really fast at all, not by any stretch of the imagination.
Every update should provide a SPEED and STABILITY bump on EVERY device that it was intended to have support for. So, for example, the iOS 7 had to provide speed improvements over the iOS 6 (even on the iPhone 4).
And especially today, when the iOS went competely 64-bit...

It’s better hardware wise, but software wise I’d argue that it hasn’t quite survived as well as the iPhone 5. After comparing the two phones extensively on iOS 11 vs iOS 10, the iPhone 5 felt quite a bit quicker.

My iPhone 5 is kinda horrible. But that's likely because of the aging battery which has been in mine since 2012. Also I always keep it docked in a speaker nowadays which the battery doesn't like so performance is really bad now. Maybe I'll just get a new battery and hopefully see a performance boost.

The best iPhone in the history of iPhones is iPhone 5 on iOS 6, period. I love this phone so much that I still use it to this day. I have changed its display and battery from Aliexpress and installed iOS 6 using coolbooter untethered. Its like new again.

I bought a IPhone 5 from a guy at a ham show who found it when scuba diving in a lake. He said it was not working but it was only $20 so i just had to buy it. And when I got it home and replaced the battery it worked! All Hail The IPhone 5!!!

I have 2 iPhone 5’s and I used coolbooter to boot to IOS 6 on one of them and while for a long time I always thought that version on that phone was the best, it didn’t match up against my iPhone X and the seamless experience with the way it can be navigated at much faster speeds than with a home button
The iPhone was the best looking phone and it was reliable. I used the iPhone till I lost it in 2018 and it was an amazing phone to have. Battery life was not the best, but it ran smoothly on each update and it was easy to use.

Except that the 5s improved and outclassed it in nearly every way. And the SE went beyond that, again. It's literally the worst iPhone in that form factor family.

Not so much about your thoughts on the 5s, but you mention the slowdown of phones. Everybody has it totally wrong about apple slowing down phones to sell you a new phone. It's simply not logical. First, the slow down isn't something the user can see or feel. It has to be measured using software. Second, and more important, if they wanted to sell you a new phone they would have just let older worn out batteries crash your phone so you would run out to buy a new one. The slowdown extended the life of the phone without any visible user interference, therefore would let you keep your phone longer.

Well... That kind of "support" is not actually a support at all. We all know that, by pressing the Accept button for the software downgrades (yup, those can represent anything BUT the upgrades) we actually shorting down the device's lifespan. A good example is an iPhone 4S on iOS 5.1.1 or a 5S on 8.x or 7.x or an iPhone 6 on iOS 8.x. Those bad boys are insanely fast and can actually beat the hell out of the iPhone 7 TODAY.
I remember when I had the iPhone 5 when I was 15 and man it was so much faster than my old iPhone 4s.
