  • Monday September 25 2023 at 18.13 & 18.18. This is the other Great Western main line level crossing west of Didcot in Oxfordshire. It is the first level crossing on the line from Paddington (56 miles away) which may make it the 2nd longest run without a level crossing in the country. The longest run might be 59 miles out of Euston (excluding HS1). The last train in this video is the same Swansea to London service that went through when I was last here 10 years ago. • Steventon East Level C... It was diesel powered then and a different colour. There are lots more signs here now and extra fencing. Both crossings have 4 blue signs with their street names and a phone number. Not sure that I've seen so many elsewhere. The crossings were operated from a local signal cabin which was demolished just before I was last here. 400 metres east of this crossing is a low road bridge over the line which isn't very much higher than the trains. The overhead wires have to rise sharply from there to create a safe height at this crossing. Various test runs had to be made to see if it was possible. The trains were the 17.48 Paddington to Carmarthen (22.11) and the 17.29 Bristol to Paddington (19.22) trains then the 16.22 Swansea to Paddington (19.30) service.

It's been fixed now though - I was here on Saturday and it didn't sound like that.
