Stowmarket Level Crossing

Friday June 21 2019 at 20.16 66762 heading towards Felixstowe and the 19.02 London to Norwich (20.53) train pushed by 90007 Sir John Betjeman. This crossing was filmed in 2012 and now has new lights and a new access gate on the left. In 2015 Network Rail wanted to close this crossing using safety grounds as a reason and they held a public meeting. 350 people attended including a well organised campaign group 'Suffolk Crossings'. They torpedoed the scheme by showing that in the previous 27 years 24 million vehicles had used this crossing without incident and that the risk was 24 times less than NR claimed. They also pointed out that NR had not taken into account the extra risk for those who would have to drive further to get around the closed crossing. It must have been a humiliating time for the NR staff. NR get what they deserve though. They should be truthful and say that the real reason that they wanted to close the crossing was financial. In November 2018 someone took their life here.

I wasn't planning on it as my video of that crossing isn't too bad, except it could have been sunnier, and I thought British Crossings And Trains was filming that line perfectly well.

Hi Sophia. I've just looked at my Yapton video and it is bad. So yes I must do it again soon. My priority has been getting some film of every crossing in England first but that is almost done now. I had a bungalow in Pagham so I know Yapton well. Its nice down there.
