  • Uttoxeter Pinfold Street Level Crossing, Uttoxeter, Staffordshire on the Crewe to Derby Line.
    Location: Pinfold Street, Uttoxeter
    Date Filmed: 28-05-2021
    -
    Nearest Station: Uttoxeter
    -
    Trains:
    Class 158 (East Midlands Railway)
    Also known as Pinfold Level Crossing.
    Located on a now pedestrian only section of Pinfold Street and one of two crossings in the town of Uttoxeter, Staffordshire. This crossing is very unique as not only is it accessible by pedestrians only, but there are two Mk1 British Rail Western Region (BRWR) barriers which are very rare to find. Uttoxeter signal box is situated beside the crossing which also controls and monitors the other crossing in Uttoxeter, on Hockley Road, as-well as all the semaphore signalling in the area on this line. Back in the 1980s, this was a road crossing with four warning lights, four barriers and two alarms. In the mid-to-late 1990s, the crossing got blocked off either side for road vehicles. It retained four barriers and four warning lights until 2017 when two of the barriers were removed, and then in 2018, two warning lights were removed to create the current crossing I filmed in May 2021. This crossing is all controlled from the signal box. The signaller leaves about a 30 second gap from starting the sequence to lowering the barriers as the crossing has a conventional control method where the barriers do not lower automatically when the sequence starts.
    Thanks For Watching!

    Awesome video, filming, and pictures! This really is a little gem of a level crossing, and I'm so glad I got to film here just last week. The barriers really give it that extra charm, and it's remarkably similar to Manor Way level crossing overall. Didn't realise the barriers lowering sequence had to be started by the signaller - learn something new every day! 👍👍👍

      Thank you Caleb 😁 It does look similar to the now abandoned Manor Way, but there's obviously a few differences. It appears the barriers are manually lowered as there was a significant delay for the barriers to lower, vastly different to what you filmed when you was there

      It also doesn’t have a lot of signs like manor way and it isn’t pedestrian request and it has field and grant barriers while manor had spx barriers and another very notable thing is that the lights do not turn off when the barriers lower

    those gates are no longer there been replaced with railings and 2 small gates at each side auto lock when a train is coming

      Yeah, I've seen a video about it a little while ago. Seems rather odd from flashing lights and barriers to two locking gates.

    Why is the top-half of the concrete post, obstructing the sign?

    • @UKLevelCrossingsChannel
      @UKLevelCrossingsChannel  3 года назад

      Since it is now a crossing only used by pedestrians, there's not really any need for signage or the warning lights to be visible from a distance anymore

    What...was wrong with normal Pinfold Street? Why did it need a useless replacement with *locking gates* and no Warning Lights? Who makes these decisions lol

    • @UKLevelCrossingsChannel
      @UKLevelCrossingsChannel  7 месяцев назад +2

      Well the crossing was quite old, especially the barriers, so like other crossings they became life expired and at risk of failing. I guess instead of replacing barrier machines and maintaining a half full size road crossing, it was a cost-effective alternative to just downgrade it entirely to a FPC. The safety aspect is still there as the signaller checks and locks the gates, but the alarms and warning lights aren't needed.

      @@UKLevelCrossingsChannel Your a nice guy by the way. I know some crossings you should take a look at if your going to take a trip to the highlands. There are some open level crossings to name a few. I could give some really good crossings if you want the names. There a few open crossings aswell as AOCLS. There used to be a AOCL with 2 tracks but it is defunct and no AOCL with 2 tracks exist within britain anymore. Sad but just lemme know if you want some crossing names in scotland (highlands)
