    *NICE CATCH* UKLC!
    Manually raise the barriers and allow traffic to proceed. (Or are they too difficulto raise by hand?)
    In the USA, electricity keeps the gates up. If thelectricity fails and storage batteries finally become dead, the gates close. The gates are counterbalanced enough thathey can be pushed up by hand.

      It was a joke. It stayed down because the signaller kept it down because the barrier broke.

      @@UKLCSandT how long were they broken for how did the barriers break

    • @UKLCSandT

      Apparently it was a relay failure in the barrier pedestal. And it was down when we got there So I’m not sure how long it was down for because we left there to film the other crossings that day.

    This is like what happened that one time at Manor Way. Perhaps that's what it thought was happening?

    Wonder if drivers would get an automated fine for driving through the red flashing lights if it was watched by a camera as they weren't being waved through legally during the failure

    • @UKLCSandT
      @UKLCSandT  2 года назад +2

      Yeah I would of thought they would of as well because really you are supposed to wait for the lights to stop flashing before you proceed over the crossing.

      It's one of the issues I have with camera monitored crossings and people moving before the lights turn off - the barriers raising do seem as an invitation to cross, but I don't have faith that the cameras would be turned off during the raise sequence, and it does count as crossing a red light (I think Know Your Traffic Signs explictly mentions to wait until the lights turn off when the barriers raise, but I dont think the Highway Code does). Luckily enough, I don't need to drive over level crossings too often!

      I think American level crossings have really nice bells, but I get confused by the fact barely any of your level crossings have full barriers, but in the UK nearly all of our road crossings are.
      Are the level crossings manned by anybody or are they all fully automatic?

    • @ChilternRailPhotography
      @ChilternRailPhotography 3 года назад +1

      @@gemth9853Half barriers crossings and no barriers crossings are usually automatic while full barrier crossings and manually activated / raised to ensure no ones is trapped on the crossing however some exceptions are mads with AFBCL crossings These crossings have special obstacle detection systems though so no one gets trapped

  • @topumpire1
    @topumpire1 3 года назад

    I hope that all trains in area were being held after the barriers pumped up to allow the traffic jam to clear. I would hope that the engineers would manually operate the crossing with Red/ Green flag to keep BOTH road & rail running -with minimal delays
