i was just wondering why does one of the network rail staff stand in the middle of the Exeter st david's Level Crossing. i mean they don't do this at any other crossing's
It's because pedestrians are allowed to cross if the crossing supervisor says it's safe to do so. My guess is that when British Railways wanted to replace the old level crossing gates with barriers, the local council made them agree that pedestrians would still be allowed to cross even when traffic couldn't. 2 men must have worked the gates as gates that far apart couldn't have been opened and closed by one man. Fitting barriers therefore saved one man and still allowed the other to call people across when possible. Having made that agreement years ago, they are stuck with it.
Nice video SteveDD1. I just wonder if you could tell me why the lights on level crossings were changed from halogen’s to LED’s, I’m just a bit curious why that happened. Nice old video anyway 🙂👍🏻
Yes but nobody sensible calls it that. Its Exeter Level Crossing next to Exeter station. Imagine an accident there today. On the news Red Cow won't get a mention.
The bell isn't actually to do with the station, its to do with the display board in the middle of the crossing telling the crossing attendant where the train is coming form & which track it will come on.
@@NathTrains i think that The attendant should of told those people crossing the crossing when the barriers were still down to stay where they were but people don't care these days.
That must be the only automatic level crossing manner for pedestrians. I recall spending a long weekend in Exeter and going to the crossing.

Read the description next time. The attendant let them over.
Do network always work at Exeter level crossing?
Michael Mouzon well not always
Michael Animate well they are guards because pedestrians can cross after the crossing goes down. The bell confirms the crossing is clear.

LEDs are more energy efficient and break less than halogens
Thats Red Cow LC Mate
