  • Friday June 21 2019 at 10.49. 5 year old 66766 heading to Hams Hall (Birmingham) from Felixstowe. This is 3/4 mile from Levington LC and it was filmed in 2012 from the other side. It was a half barrier crossing then but has now been changed or, some would say, downgraded, to a full barrier crossing. This is a single track railway line, used mainly by slow freight trains, crossing a dead end country lane that sees a vehicle every 20 to 30 minutes. On any list of level crossings that need full barriers, this must come about 1,000th. Nevertheless Network Rail have done it. A dreadful waste of money. I suspect that it happened because the normal value for money checks that should have instantly dismissed the project were bypassed as Felixstowe Harbour were likely to pay much of the cost. One and a half minutes of the wait has been cut so I had to wait here for 3 minutes 40 seconds indicating that the crossing is already not working properly. Surely the equipment shows the operator whether its a passenger or a freight train and if its freight he simply presses a button marked 'freight' which lowers the barriers one minute later. At the end the line can be seen in both directions.
