Also when Mariama started with Solid HarmoniE in 1996, they were signed in the States with Lou Pearlman who handled NYSNC and Backstreet Boys. They were poised as the female version of BSB because the music they did were very similar. They also toured with them in the 90s. After Mariama left Honeyz, she actually moved to the States to become a solo performer. She toured with O-Town who Pearlman also managed but nothing materialized on her solo career. Great video as always. I remember the Honeyz among a wave of girl groups in the late 90s (including Solid Harmonie, Mariama's old group, who actually had 3 top 20 hits). They had some good songs; shame that second album never quite happened though.
That was fabricated for the TV show they did in 2013, they were created because their management company's previous girl group, Eternal, were in the verge of disbanding. Plus, don't get too brave because Michelle was great for harmonizing and whatnot - but lead singing wasn't really her thing.
@@iampause Oh god haha SO TRUE about Michelle, absolutely AWFUL lead singer. These kind of bands don't really last long, unfortunately, because they are young and have ambitions of their own (I mean look at Geri leaving the Spice Girls in the middle of the world tour, that was tragic and disrespectful). Eternal had the similar story, I believe, which is why they ditched from the US market. I think Honeyz would've had one hit in US and then would fade away. Mis-Teeq had a good chance, but a similar story, I believe?!
@@Right_Direction_ She had some highlights on that album, and she did some singing and rapping on it - but not necessarily all of the background vocals and harmonies. Celena's voice was layered a good amount of times so they could get harmonies, thus said by Celena herself - they'd also use session singers (like the one you hear on the first three Honeyz singles) so the songs could sound more proper vocal-wise. Heavenli doesn't have a bad voice, but she bragged too much about Naima during The Big Reunion - when in reality their vocal range wasn't so different. In my opinion, Mariama was what the group needed - a great singer, great dancer and great personality/charisma.
@@iampause I think both Celena and Heavenli had their vocals doubled and tripled on pretty much every song. If you listen to songs like Seems Like, Somebody To Love Me, Good Love, Just Let Go, Wonder No8, Love of a lifetime most of those vocals are Heavenli doing the bass and alto and mezzo-soprano, she has a very distinctive voice, reminds me a lot of T-Boz or Kandi from XScape with a touch of Sade, it's a very similar tone and range to Sade. Celena is more dominant on Do Me Baby, What does she look like (only her vocals are on it), In the Street, Finally Found. Steve Levine who co wrote and produced most of the vocals on that album said that Heavenli did a bulk of all the background work, that's why you also hear a drastic difference in their sound to the tracks Mariama was on, they did have additional singers on some songs to balance it out, they even kept Mariama's vocals on the 2nd album tracks and just added Heavenli, several tracks you can hear both of them. Heavenli didn't sound so good on the big reunion show, trying to shout too much, I don't know why. If you listen to finally Found, End Of the Line and Love of a lifetime on their album "The collection" they are the demo versions on there, much more stripped back and you can really hear how dominant Heavenli was in their backgrounds, i think she and Celena complemented one another so well.
The messy drama of it all! My Take: They all hated Naima cos she was smoking... and I mean SMOKING... hot. Heavenli was the messiest of all, Celena was probably pretty chill and Mariama was insecure around Naima to
Imagine the utter stupidity that causes someone to name their child 'heavenly'? It is to imagine that people will take it that the child is better somehow than everyone else. And is such a daft name. Come on people!
Got in the group if they wasn't serious about it wasting them people time and money when you in a group is not all about you it's about other people too and if you're not going to play your part then you shouldn't be in a group wasting people's time and money and wasting talent when you know you can't sing .
Under heavenly kingdom rule over paradise on earth coming at anytime Now this wicked world will not be brought to mind nor remembered ever again (No one will be known as a celebrity nor a fan of one) (Gen 1:27-30; Psalm 83:18; Isaiah 65:17; Matt 24:3,14,42,44;1 John 2:15-17;Rev 20:15;21:3-5)
Celina was the lead vocalist so most of the times Naima had only to sing the chorus along with Heavenli, and when she would have a solo it would always be an easy part to sing.
Naima did sing on the tracks, but she wasn't a singer singer, she could hold a tune. She did a full lead on a song called Love Is Strange on their 2nd album, basic vocals but not unpleasant.

UK labels never take UK Soul and r&b seriously. They don't get the right backing and are messed around by executives, A&Rs and managers. Often they are sent to America to get the exact production the yanks have or to show more skin, tits and ass - changing their whole style. This is what happened to Cleopatra.
Lol . I think it’s tricky for UK acts trying to do RnB. They usually start of that way then eventually go pop . RnB in the UK, unlike the US , I think doesn’t have its own charts or huge fan base. To sell records in the UK as an RnB artist you have to eventually go pop . Look at Craig David or JLS for example. Also UK RnB groups understandably have a hard time trying to conquer the US RnB scene because who wants to listen to Craig David when you’ve got Joe, Jodeci or R.Kelly to choose from lol. Hence you get shitty songs masquerading as RnB e.g East 17’s cover of US RnB group Shai song ‘If I ever fall in love a again ‘. What a travesty. They murdered that song.

2/4 Honeyz can sing, Celena and Mariama. But I guess that Heavenli and Naima's voices aren't so bad.
@@iampause Heavenli did pretty much all of their background vocals on Wonder No8, she had a great voice.
All these line up changes... I am just confused..
The messy drama of it all!
My Take: They all hated Naima cos she was smoking... and I mean SMOKING... hot. Heavenli was the messiest of all, Celena was probably pretty chill and Mariama was insecure around Naima to
Neva heard of 'em
Never heard of em
For Americans, the nearest comparison is 3LW 😉
Hell no!
Oh no you didn't! 😂
How insulting to the Honeyz LOL. Though people used to say the original Sugababes were the UK equivalent of 3LW which used to piss me off.
@@Right_Direction_ Kiely could never!
@@iampause 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 exactly.
Sounds like something that shoulda never happened 🤔.
Imagine the utter stupidity that causes someone to name their child 'heavenly'? It is to imagine that people will take it that the child is better somehow than everyone else. And is such a daft name. Come on people!
YAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWNNNNNNNN
I don't remember this group
Got in the group if they wasn't serious about it wasting them people time and money when you in a group is not all about you it's about other people too and if you're not going to play your part then you shouldn't be in a group wasting people's time and money and wasting talent when you know you can't sing .
British Music could never compare to American Music 🤷♀️. American women look sexier and don’t have an annoying accent.
OMG
Celena Cherry sister Candace Cherry replace Mariama Goodman form Honeyz
Candace Cherry is new member for Honeyz now
A story on rap group The Coup would be very interesting
Under heavenly kingdom rule over paradise on earth coming at anytime Now this wicked world will not be brought to mind nor remembered ever again (No one will be known as a celebrity nor a fan of one)

THEY WERE MEANT TO TAKE ON DESTINYS CHILD!? LMAO
I gotta say I think 90% of there music was awful😂 but they had some bops like Wonder#8, Won't take it lying down n In the Street.
Finally Found, End of the Line, Love of a Lifetime, Never Let You Down and Won't Take It Lying Down awful? Mmh, I think it's you, sir!
Take on destiny child!🤣😂🤣🤣😂🤣🤔
so pretty much this was another millie vanilli situation!!!???
Celina was the lead vocalist so most of the times Naima had only to sing the chorus along with Heavenli, and when she would have a solo it would always be an easy part to sing.
No, Naima does a lot of singing on the album tracks.
Naima did sing on the tracks, but she wasn't a singer singer, she could hold a tune. She did a full lead on a song called Love Is Strange on their 2nd album, basic vocals but not unpleasant.
@@_AceReject They had 2 albums, the 2nd one was called Harmony that got shelved, it leaked online the following year, it got officially released on streaming and iTunes a couple of years ago but it's been on RUclips and all over the internet since 2002.
@@Right_Direction_ There wasn't a RUclips in 2002.
Nope never heard of em
Me neither.
Never heard of them
Me neither, but I know All Saints and Cleopatra.
Why did most of the British Soul Groups had dead awful songs? Exceptions that come to mind are Incognito, Soul II Soul, and Loose Ends.
I'd say the production would be the factor
They were trying so hard to sound American. S2S and Loose Ends were trailblazers.
Nah man, not true at all
UK labels never take UK Soul and r&b seriously.
I always thought they were a mediocre group tbh.
Only two look black. Or one, a biracial, two others, and celina's sister....
Celena*
Celena and Heavenli are black, Mariama is half black and half Indian. Naima is obviously white.
@@iampause Naima Belkhiati isn't a white name. She's North African, some comments say Moroccan.
@@poppinc8145 Oh yeah, I know that now. She's half moroccan, her mom is.
First
🙋🏾♂️ And I thought the girls from Xcape was ugly. They're close, neck and neck with them.
What do you look like? They are beautiful stop the hating
🙋🏾♂️ So if someone makes a comment that another person doesn't agree with is called "hating?" Interesting 🤔 So if I say Lizzo is obese is that hating too?
@@I_Love_my_adblock4408 no its the truth she looks like the shit emoji
@@neshapayne3166 Exactly lol
All 4 Honeyz members are stunning. Xscape I give you that, apart from Kandi she's sexy AF.
