George and Tammy were soulmates. Those last spouses would like for people to believe differently but it’s quite obvious what those last marriages were all about.
To say it’s the most desperate of sad songs, there’s a beauty to it that’s indescribable and that’s how Country music should be imo.......relatively simple honest songs that are purely emotive to the point where I get those damn goosebumps every time I hear this song written by your father
This is peak George Jones imo. As Kenny G points out George Jones essentially checked out after 1970 and for the record “He stopped lover her today” doesn’t come near to the greatness of this or just about everything pre 1970 imo
Just no other voice like the "Possum". He's got a real smooth voice on just the right parts, then just the right amount of "gravel" as needed.
Love george and Tammy sing this song great pics off them both thanks max may they both rest in peace

MAX, TAMMY STATED ( IN PUBLIC ) THAT SHE WROTE THE SONG~~~GREAT COUNTRY SONG~~~R.I.P. GEORGE
If she did, I wonder why her ex-husband Don Chappell gets credit for writing it and not her. George stated that Don Chappell wrote it.
She did not write this sng..I have my dad's publishing company since he passed.Don Chapel wrote this before he knew her .
Tammy had a way of embellishing the truth
My dad wrote this song for my mom many years ago
