- Taken from "The Lord Of The Rings" soundtrack, this amazing lament is sung by Elizabeth Fraser from the Cocteau Twins, the video is by shum65, and features many images including Colin Ratushniak.
I nearly cried when I recognized Liz's voice in the theater. They could of put that scene on replay and I would've been happy. Of all the commercial movies out there, I'm glad someone had the foresight to put in a little of the old ethereal 4AD, which always recalled a sense of a netherworld or Middle Earth.
and right where you would want her, in lothlorien
*Could've. Dummy.
There is another lest we forget..Two woman with just incredible voices..i wish one day I could hear them both together Lisa Gerrard and Liz Fraser have some of the most haunting voices on the planet..Somebody on the planet must get these two together before it's too late
I've seen you comment on a few other Frazer videos about Gerrard, and I'm into it!
I'm in total agreement. Gerrard has done more music in Hollywood movies; but, it appears Peter Jackson is starting to change that perspective.
pin this
well it's true both of them have incredible voices but they at their best performing on their own, it simply doesn't make sense bringing them together
@@arcturusk649 No you're wrong I hear them both in my head
Always thought Liz Fraser was the perfect choice for this, because it sounds like the sound crew actually went into Lothlorien and recorded an Elf singing.
Only Frazer can bring to life the elven world with her voice.
Enya was the original to do so!!!
I remember when this song faded in with the scene.. I got this wave of goosebumps... tears came out instantly... I knew it was Elizabeth... but I didn't know she was hired to do vocals..I just thought it was all enya.. never felt anything like that in a film since.
My reaction was exactly the same, when, I first heard it. Other people, kept insisting it was Enya; but, only Elizabeth has this particular sound.
Among the few 'originators' among the groups from the 80s and 90s, the 'Cocteau Twins' for me were always outstanding.
They had found their very own special way to express themselves. Robin Guthrie's unique guitar sound and treatments,
Simon Raymonde's subtle, fine contributions to the arrangements - and Elizabeth's intriguing charismatic voice, her wide range of notes and expression. Still one of the very best British singers in my opinion. This song gave me chicken-skin,
again. She never failed me there.
A Lament for Gandalf and yet not one image of him in the video.
Space and very emotional voice and the song !!! With respect and love from Russia!

The voice of an angel...
@ShahMatification It's played during the time after Gandalf falls with the Balrog, when they're among the elves in Galadriel's forest, getting ready for sleep, and Legolas is speaking. It's very background and easy to miss, but it's there. It's just haunting. It sounds like music that leads you on into a dark gorge in a deep forest, never to be seen again.

great tribute to the films with your magic touch and her angelic voice - peace and love to you my friend.

A suitably haunting, mysterious and magical song! I checked on IMDB, and Liz does seem to be credited for a song from ":The Two Towers", but it's "Isengard Unleashed", not this track. They need to add this song, as well. Meanwhile, a very cool vid, buddy! Nice photo at the beginning, by the way! I spotted that Colin Ratstushankrak, or however it's spelled, as well.
Haunting.
Hey Shume.....haven,t seen Lord of the Ring but your video is so perfect for this song, atmospheric, gothic and dark....Heavenly Dark!!
Ginger love from over seas!
Really great ! i enjoyed that .. I have seen the film and also the lovely video of Elizibeth Frazer singing this Mortal Coil .. i love that track .. .. very nicely put to gether and love the continuety of the sepia pink colour .. :) sweet . "_"

Hey Shum! Hope you had a Merry one!Still trying to dig up info on Liz working on the new Hobbit movie.Nothing so far.I suppose after filming is when they concern themselves with the soundtrack, but I'm no director.Read an interview with her in the guardian uk.Can you believe Prince wanted to sign the Twins? How about a vid for the song "Moses"?I like the accordion accompaniement,me being a clumsy player myself. All that nonsense being said,I hope the new year is a golden one for you,my friend.
Бля столько лет искал эту композицию...
hmm never saw lord of the rings.
thanks for this.
@shum65
Ciao Bello!
Grazie Dear Davey, for uploading this! I've loved the three Peter Jackson films from the time of their release, and had absolutely no idea that Elizabeth Fraser had been a part of any of them! And specifically this was from " The TwoTowers" no? Do you happen to know if she was credited?
Blaine
Hi! And also on The Lovely Bones, by Peter Jackson as well. She's his muse.
Sure miss shum.
I find the WARNER MUSIC GROUP to exercise tyrannical control over artists they no longer consider "a going concern".
I don't want buisness taking over music. This sortof ban is a very good example of what happens, when under the monopoly of buisness.
hey Shum...
that´s stunning!
such a brill vid you worked on to this song......and I never got to see the lord of the rings the whole length...and that´s a Beautiful sort of Celtic tune!
and are there bits of "song to the sirens" to your vid, Shum?
Anyway,
another trick (in a good way) you had up your sleeve you managed to put down on this vid!
I congratulate you on that Shum!
Bloody lovely!
Sollo...
@shum65 Sometimes, they pull these scams to generate popularity around an artist. But in this case, seems like they'd rather hold the work hostage so that it remais forgotten, enabling them to inject their new acts all over the place.
I think they use their property over the recordings to control market tendencies.
And that, I believe is criminal. t's just another form of corruption.
