They're cuboid rather than actual cubes. Of course cuboid also describes nearly every other PC case too. The difference seems to be that cube cases are closer to cubes than tower or desktop cases.
"Look! They're shaped like cubes!" Nintendo, after seeing the mysteriously low GameCube sales: "Perhaps they thought it looked a little bit like a lunchbox."
Do a fast as possible on the different graphical outputs, so VGA, HDMI, the various types of DVI, and the fourth that isn't an ancroynm. Just talk about the pros and cons of each and how they all differ from one another.
If you're running a 1080p monitor then HDMI, DVI, and Displayport will have the exact same performance as they're all digital. VGA is analogue and will always be inferior. However, as you're pushing resolutions above 1440p HDMI and single-link DVI simply won't work(you might get corrupted colours because the cable can't keep up with all the graphical data). Almost every monitor comes with a DVI cable, so you should use that unless you have a really good reason not to.
bassl0va It has a higher bandwidth, but as long as you don't need it, the quality is the same. It's a digital signal, there's no visual interference. It either works or it doesn't.
One thing I have noticed is cases have gotten wider to hide wires under the motherboard and fit giant cooling towers and they've gotten longer for front fans and I think also due to the bottom mounted power supplies & HDD bays. It used to be if you had a giant graphics card, it could run almost the full length of the case, but now the graphics cards are more toward the middle of the case and can run into the 5 1/4 bays. Having said that, the options are much greater now and some of the SFF cases + that ridiculously small ITX form factor allow you to make a hella small powerhouse of a PC.
You should do an episode on fan bearings: like sleeve, ball/double ball, fluid dynamic, and magnetic. And how orientations for some can be detrimental to the lifespan.
In my opinion, the following criteria are the ones that matter when classifying a case: 1. Compatible motherboard size(s): this is the most important one, since this is the one that consumers are the most concerned about (will my E-ATX motherboard fit in this case?). 2. Motherboard orientation: will the motherboard be lying horizontally, or will it be standing vertically? This is the most important factor when it comes to a case's general aspect (towers versus cubes/htpcs). (3. One can also argue that some htpc cases and other small form factor cases use an external power supply and this can be a pretty big deal breaker for some people.) While everything else is mostly a feature, these can be very important for consumers. For example, - Does the case have separate compartments for the motherboard and power supply (plus other stuff)? Are these compartments side-by-side or one one top of the other? - What fan or radiator size and number can fit on each panel (top, front, left and right sides, back and bottom)? - What GPU size can it fit (and without getting in the way of cable management)? - What radiator-plus-fan (air cooling solution) size can fit on the CPU (and without forcing you to remove a side or top fan or generally blocking air flow in the case)? - And many other questions... The general lack of standards when it comes to cases can be attributed, I think, to a (partial) lack of transparency. If you browse through a few case manufacturer websites, you'll notice that some information is often omitted (like the internal dimensions of a case, which is important in order to figure out what cooling solution can fit in it) in favor of more flashy features like "RGB!!!". While I like the customization that those features can bring, in my experience, manufacturers often use them to mask flaws or a general lack of build quality. P.S. English is not my first language, so forgive me if something is not appropriately worded.
I like how you kept the sponsor plug relevant this time. I know its hard to do but it means that I actually watch the entire video instead of just clicking away once its over.
I recently built my i9-9900k with a Z-390 E-Gaming Mobo, Water cooled, and 5 fans. I put it all in a cube case. Best decision ever! So much room! Lots of airflow, and I can always use this as a future case too! I went with the Corsair Carbide Air 540 High Airflow case in case anyone is interested in going that route.
I've got a CoolerMaster StormTrooper which is a full tower case. And I love it. Gives me lots if room for cable management and to fit my massive Noctua NH-D14 heatsink.
YukiGibson Even more technically, they (PS4 and Xbone) are modified x86-64 based PCs with a custom heavily debuffed AMD APU, custom "BIOS", and a secondary ARM CPU.
Easy. XL Case: For XL-ATX L Case: For E-ATX M Case: For ATX S Case: For M-ATX XS Case: For M-ITX Modifiers: Standard Roomy (S Roomy, M Roomy, L Roomy) Cube Mod Tower HTPC etc End result: Most HTPC cases will be either HTPC S or HTPC XS.
Heres a fun fact; The XL-ATX/ATX/m-ATX case "CM Storm Trooper" can also hold an E-ATX mobo. I didnt discover this until after my build lol. Covered 1/3 of the cable management holes in the "Middle" though. Just found myself lucky hehe
I have a Cooler Master Scout II - great case! (..especially for me, because i move it back and forth between my bedroom and living room from day to day. The integrated carry handle makes it really easy and a lot less risky.)
Speaking of towers, love your sponsor! I've had a Cooler Master CM Storm Scout for years and love it. ^_^ Next time I upgrade I'll get one of their full towers for the extra room.
i went with the hafx, good cable management, higher than my knee plenty of depth, side drive mounts with slot in trays for easy installation among other really good design features
If you're used to regular desktop computers and are creating your first computer like me, mid-towers are insanely huge. I can only imagine how large full towers are.
Jonathan Green Yeah, mid towers can support two way SLI/Crossfire with large video cards and even more with smaller form factor cards, especially with next gen constrictions and confusion we may see more than two way sli go out of style, or SLI in general. Either way I think SLI is just a dumb waste of money.
It's weird seeing you so mad when making these videos is how you make money. Isn't this your job?. Shouldn't people requesting these videos make you happy, because there's a demand for your service? Maybe it's just me, but I'm always confused when youtubers are annoyed and pissed off that they have to make another video.
+Techquickie Would having an Ultra Tower provide the best airflow? Or would it leave more room for heat to get trapped? Going for a Skylake 6700k build, wanted the biggest and baddest!
I run a thermaltake Cube x9. 55 pounds of cold hard steel. Was a great buy. Never have to worry about space anymore... just gotta work on cable management
+Techquickie Even though I don't agree with Azizi's comment, you could argue that the video is "biased" because the video is sponsered by Cooler Master and all example cases are Cooler Master cases. :) A neutral perspective would be showing multiple examples and edge-cases for every case-size. I totally get why only CM cases are shown though; gotta get food on the table, right? :P
+Toby Hinloopen Yeah but honestly who cares. I got the point perfectly. It's like a video explaining the difference between 2 door coupes, 4 door sedans and SUVs using only BMWs. You'll understand anyhow, who cares if the SUV is not from Audi or GM?
+Toby Hinloopen linus has a wife, a child, a business with multiple employees, has some servers and the crew's computers probably draw around 700 to 1000 watts. better run after those sponsors like there's no tomorrow!
+sanpt7777, very true. Anyway I like cooler master cases, i have a Haf 912plus, a mate of mine have the Haf X, and another mate have a K280, great cases, good build. I would have loved a HAF X myself,. but spending £140 on a case was a bit too much. the 912 was a bit cheaper and now at 5 years old, still do a good job.
My first build was in a mid tower case. After a few weeks I bought the GTX 770 GPU, needless to say I regret getting a midtower because for beastly gpus I had limited space, so I bought a full tower. Thor v2, I used for a few months now I changed the case for the corsair carbide air 540.
I have a full size case with a liquid cooled CPU, single GTX970. huge reason I picked it was because after I decided on all my parts I really just wanted the space to be able to add on in the future, and I also really wanted cooling potential. I have 8 fans 4x20cm 2x12cm and 2x12cm radiated push-pull, and a large amount of space for cable management which is more important than people give it credit for. at load most components don't reach above 60°C in the summer. it's something to think about.
Please prepare a video about the other sizes of PC Cases as Fast As Possible and think you for the continuation of your reviews and fast as possible and everything else you do I really enjoy it and love it and I wish you the best of luck
I love my full tower case since I sit the case on the floor. I don't need to worry about reaching down low to reach the buttons, optical drives, and external ports and jacks.
Even though i know most of the stuff at techquickie i enjoy watching the episodes. And they somtimes work as wikipedia-smartarse clervertalk guides. Keep up the good work!
Great review cleared up all the confusion on the web i love the way you present all your videos they are a breath of fresh air cheers mate have a great day
I have a full tower and it's lasted me a long time. I can put components far away from each other to spread out the heat and it's easy for me to get in there with a can of compressed air and clear the dust out.
For my first build which i finished yesterday. Im only running a mini-atx motherboard and a 770 graphics card yet I ordered a phantom for expandability in the future, plenty of space since its my first build, and so I can have decent cable management. Also I love the design
When I will build a PC it will be sure a mini ITX tower. Thank you, I don't like oversized computers when it's not a server/SLI build. I like powerpunch boxes! :)
What about Big Tower? It was well standardized even before ATX became a thing. Around the time ATX became popular we had Mid Towers (3 5.25 bays+1 3.5, sized just like most common ones presently) and big towers (roughly 1.5 height of a mid tower, extra space would fit two more 5.25 and 1 or more extra 3.5 bays on front and a bit more space, while on the back it would give you space that would fit second ATX power supply and additional fan vent, and possibly few more expansion card slots - even when mainboard was not long enough you still could add a few ports connected to MB via cable). And desktops that were basically a bit slimmer mid towers lying on a side, with just two 5.25 bays.
I still dont grasp what I'm TRYING to grasp, which is, how can I tell if the parts I've chosen will all fit comfortably, website specs talk about max radiator height and max gpu length etc, and I have no idea whether thats the case JUST by knowing if its an atx form factor or not
Those are the dimensions of the parts that can fit. Meaning if the dimensions of that specific component is at that size (preferably slightly smaller), it will fit where it is supposed to be placed.
I got a coolermaster n200 xD I used to have a HAF 922 and I still have a non modular 750w psu with a shitload of cables.. :P Anyway, two harddrives, one graphics card,, matx motherboard and a dvd burner and the case is pretty much filled. Because of the psu I didn't manage to do a great job on the cable management but it works and all components stay cool.
It is a funny thing that y'all mention cooler master in the end of the video. I have a cooler master case and cooler master fans and a cooler mast heat sink.
could you please do a video about power phase & (digi-)VRM please? OR a video about the measurement variables like Watt (TDP AND usage), Volt, Ohms etc etc. thanks :)
Linus used to yell at the script writer... now he yells at his own chyrons!

Im requesting "Butt-tons" to be an official measurement.

Good job, as usual very helpful

My favorite is Micro ATX Mini Tower. They're generally not much bigger than an mATX board, not much wasted space, no extra expansion slot covers.

i actually have that mid tower from cooler master that you used as an example it looks like a beast and is always cool i love it

Full towers are great and they usually have 200mm size fans or larger so more airflow with less noise than smaller fans.
your hand enters in cube case at 3:57. :D
