The Seekers were a superb Australian group, Ruth, and their exceptional lead singer, Judith Durham, had the voice of an angel ..... i say 'had' because sadly she died in 2022 ......this is the truly outstanding song that became a huge hit and started it all off for them back in the mid sixties. But honestly, listen to ANY of their songs and you will love them ....
the seekers came up with some interesting songs , wonderful beautiful of course, but often they have an unusual buildup arrangement . in this one they start super straight and low in cord then from 2nd line they immediately switch it up with Judith totally wonderfully blowing the guys away, but they stay in there with the backup sound really well.
That big instrument is a bass.(pronounced "base" ). It's what was used to hold the lower register of a song, before the invention of the electric bass. 😊
Knew about georgie girl many years ago. But just 😮discovered this song I'll never find another you a week ago. Been listening to it for about 100 times since. Wow! Inspirational love song. Beautiful song performed wonderfully and perfectly by the seekers. Found out all the parties involved and their stories. Tom springfield is a great song writer. And the cute girl judith sure can sing. Her voice is unique and beautiful. The 3 string guys were great too. They just don't make them like they used to anymore.
I agree completely with your comments. A few additional points: 1. This song was composed by Tom Springfield. Listen to some of his sister, Dusty Springfield's, performances. 2. This video was recorded in Abbey Road Studios, same studio the Beatles used for many of their recordings. 3. The Seekers did have a superb 4-part harmony. 4. Bruce Woodley, who plays the 6-string guitar, also composed several of the Seekers' songs. 5. Athol Guy, who plays stand-up string bass (the cello's "big brother"), also sings bass in the quartet. 6. Do continue to investigate the Seekers -- they left quite a legacy. 7. There is also a fairly recent music video of this song, a duet arrangement featuring Keith Potger, the 12-string guitar player.
The Seekers were wonderful. Judith died last year. Take a look at The Seekers, I am Australian, Special Final Performance. This shows them later in life singing a special song for all Australians.
This song is a masterpiece of the soul. The Folk Era at its Best. Brings me to tears every time I hear it. Might I suggest Mary Fahl, "October Project" 1993. It will blow your minds. Check it out. You wont regret it. Listen to the whole album. You'll see.
The Seekers are an Austrailian Group . They Started out playing on holiday ships , but eventually found their way to the UK . This was their first hit and they had many more . They were very popular but split up in 1967 . Judith persued a solo career . She rejoined them in 1994 i think and they kept playing until a few years ago . Judith sadly passed away just aver a year ago . Try reacting to The Carnival Is Over . Thanks Ruth
The Seekers were an extremely boring band, especially Judith, and their songs were so depressing you could get suicidal just listening to them, but don't worry, they've gone for good, I am pleased to say, thankfully there is plenty of other good bands and singers that you can listen to,

The instrument youre asking about is called a standup bass..
Thank you.
Please react to Georgie Girl. It was another of their big hits.
The last song released is called Carry Me. It is so profound and was introduced at Judith's memorial service. You should listen to it.
Formed in 1962 broke up 1968
Reformed in 1993 until Judith's passing last year
The big instrument is a double bass
The instrument is a double bass
Oh wow... thank you.
It is the largest (and deepest) of the Violin family... 🎻 and can either be played with a bow, or the strings plucked/hit with the hand.
try the carnival is over the seekers or all over the world the seekers please
Ok, yes I will.
Your reaction was on point. Listen to A World of Our Own by the Seekers…. By the way you are a very beautiful woman!
