@@Comrade.2107 I mean he isn't that much of asshole in the end. He even was ordered to shoot ekko by jayce, but he probably wouldn't have done that. Also if not Silco he would probably been a good guy.
Marcus is probably one of the most realistic characters in Arcane. I loved him but I wish they coulda done more with him. He was once the idealist prideful enforcer willing to do anything to bring Justice. Until when he did it showed him what the world really is. Showed him what real conflict could be like. I don’t know what happened between the timeskip between him and Silco but I can’t blame him for the way he ended up.
Marcus: There's a crime behind every coin that passes through this place and the coins he got from his deal with Silco literally got soaked in the blood of his dead comrades
exactly my favorite characters too. i'm fine with his ending but man, marcus felt so real as a character and i'm a little upset we didn't get to see marcus become the anti-hero of the show
When Marcus took Vi to send her to prison, I think he thought what he was doing was actually good. In his head, it must've been like: Ok I'm going to save that pink-haired girl, because I don't want more people to die because of me (Flashback to earlier in the evening), but at the same time, I kinda want don't want any trouble concerning the incident earlier, so I'm just going to send her to prison, so that they can't trace that back to me. Because he could've just let her die there. But he didn't.
I don’t think he had amazing intentions, the way he said “if he hears you he’ll kill you” sounded like protection for vi but also a negative insinuation tone. Idk how to rxplain
He’s a character I couldn’t find myself absolutely hating (I mean at first I did) but like the show establishes so well the pressure he’s under and him just thinking in his mind what’s best with the arrogant lifestyle he’s lived up in Piltover. Yeah he overreacted a lot which lead to a lot of bad shit happening of course but he gets very very humanized especially once he gets involved with silco which was done so well.
@@alphabloodpaw3233 he was clearly extremely conflicted, you even see in the scene with the bomb that he's really close to just snapping, he just needed a good kick in that direction, but he never got the chance to getting one
What he did with vi may have been the only option for her, he couldn't hide her because she is too impulsive and violent so she would seek revenge, and he couldn't run away with her for similar reasons, not to mention him being married, what he did was probably one of the better if not the best option.
1:09 Marcus: Did you just spit on my very well animated shoe?! Also Marcus: *Throws guy through a window and scaring some absolutely very innocent kids* By the way, I don't really like Marcus's current design, but I like his act 1 design a lot, even though I kept thinking he was female for some reason...
I know Marcus is pretty unpopular with the Arcane fandom, but I couldn’t help but sympathize with him. Sure, he was angry and extremist in his youth, but it’s clear the death of his mentor and the subsequent dirty dealing he had to do with Silco to protect Piltover humbled him. He wasn’t evil or maniacal. He was just a naive man who thought he was upholding justice but ultimately made things worse and who was burdened with extreme guilt and regret later in his life as he tried make up for his mistake.
Marcus was a really great, nuanced character. The way he looked down on Zaunites showed he wasn't a wholly good person, but the way he reacted when Deckard killed the other Enforcers showed he still was more or less a good person. He actively threw away the gold he got given because he felt tainted by what it actually cost. And when we see him years later, he still mourns Grayson and considers her to be a good woman. We see that he loves his daughter and cares for her the best he can. The only reason he works with Silco isn't because he likes it, but because he's too afraid to ever make the tough choice of backing out, or taking them both out. We see him struggle to make a choice when he corners Caitlyn, and when he dies he tries to deliver a message to his daughter. Probably something like 'Daddy's sorry." Even Caitlyn recognizes that Marcus was likely being forced to be Silco's muscle. A more poorly written show would've missed all that. Just written him as a cartoonish corrupt cop.
yes, i totally agree and see it the same way, my favourite part about this character is that looking down on zaun, he just feels so mighty and disrespectful (to certain people) and i love it. Also he is super realistic, him being selfish (like all people are) and caring most about himself and his family for the cost of zaun. I mean imagine an enforcer that is selfless and cares about others more, he would be just exploited the hell out.
Awful by what means? He wasn’t evil. He was just a guy that got abused by Silco. You could see he didn’t want to do bad things and even thought about ending him self for greater end. Also later he done everything for his daughter safety
You honestly feel for the guy a bit and I even was about ready to cheer him on until he shot ekko and episode 7. He has no one to blame but himself and he was passed redemption
people are finding him sympathetic, but i dont see it. at first he hates the undercity and dooms it by giving silco what he wants and getting his own people killed. when he was handed that money, it kinda reminded me of judas from the bible. marcus is not an idealist, hes just blind to the problems his side are creating and lacks any imagination. later on he completely walks back on what he believed in by making a deal with silco, but keeps his shitty temper and again lacks any imagination. greyson made actual deals with vander, silco just does whatever he wants. marcus is just trying to "keep the peace", while in reality hes just silencing people and trying to sell the illusion of peace to piltover, further screwing them over in the long run
From what i remember, Marcus values Piltover much more than the undercity, so when it comes to making decisions, he always focuses on keeping his family safe and the council happy more than the good of Zaun.
