      I've learned more history through Civ + other related games than I ever did at school. Like how you are extending that.

    Seeing that gun camel reminded me of the fact that when recoil-less rifles were first introduced, mounting them to elephants was all the rage.
    Recoil-less rifles are basically rpg launchers(open backed weapons).
    And genuinely elephants carrying massive rpg shooters are something I'd want in my fantasy army

      Interesting! Maybe a camel vs elephant fantasy battle? 😂

      @@Paisley_play call me biased, but i feel the elephant has the advantage here. Bigger, smarter, and it's trunk can hurl tree trunks. A camel ain't much bigger
      GO PHANTIES!!!!
      when is TABS gonna introduce elephants and camels. I need to see this

    This start is pretty crazy. I don't think Mashhad will ever run out of banana bread. I've never played Persia before cause I didn't really like Cyrus' bonus (and I was annoyed by him when I would play against him with his constant complains about surprise wars lol)Also, no new series without Paisley saying "I misclicked" haha

    • @Paisley_play
      @Paisley_play  2 года назад +3

      The immortals are fun to play with but Cyrus and Nader’s kits are definitely split in strength between war and culture, making it harder to win with when compared to more focused civs!

    I refuse to admit that I get excited over Relics, but I did make the exact same face as @Paisley_Trees when the Holy Lance showed up at 03:54.
    My two cents on the argument that Nader should have a more modern unique unit: I disagree on that - bless those people's souls if they think Frederick Barbarossa took a U-Boat to Anatolia. I do think it's weird that the *leader ability* from an 18th-century king is at its strongest in the Ancient Era and falls off in the Renaissance Era (as trading with allies becomes more profitable). A bonus that scales more or maybe even kicks in later would have seemed fitting. Maybe a bonus to Great General point generation, cheaper upgrading of ranged units, and an international trade yield bonus to conquered cities (it plays better into the idea that Persia conquers before pivoting to tourism).

    • @Paisley_play
      @Paisley_play  2 года назад +1

      That’s a great point, especially if the idea is you trade after conquering (without the current bug), then it’s not really strong enough to choose it over even city state trade routes based on gold. Given the plundering of jewels and precious items from Delhi, maybe giving amenity for the trade route would have been much stronger for a late-game internal trade route and make sense history wise :)

    When you mentioned Balkans to Bengal, I thought another interesting term would be Balkans to Banyuwangi, a regency on the extreme eastern end of Java which is the farthest point reached by Islam, because across the water from Banyuwangi is Bali which is to this day, still a Hindu country.
    However, I don’t think our part of the world has been THAT influenced by Iran/Persia so it would be more a reference to Islamicisation in general (I just thought it was interesting that both concepts are bordered by Bees)…

    12:35 They're LITERALLY already building walls in addition to the figurative walls they've erected through their inability to express Turkish love.
    My "literal" count is at 4 so far.
    Maybe with the first Campus district the discourse will improve.

    Is the term ‘Iran’ preferred by non-ethnic Persians in Iran? There are parallels to the Burma versus Myanmar issue because the former is a reference to the majority ethnic group in the same way that Persia is..

    • @Paisley_play
      @Paisley_play  2 года назад

      Yes actually! There’s a lot of Azeri and Turkic people who prefer Iran. But there is the added layer of certain people (especially in the diaspora) finding Persia to represent them better than Iran which they associate with the modern state and less with the culture.

    A gem of a channel.A history freak and civ 6 player myself.A question for you,how would you classfy The Great Seljuk Empire?A Turkish Empire, a Persian one or simply iranian or something unique..or simply Persianate?

    • @Paisley_play
      @Paisley_play  2 года назад

      Thanks so much! In regards to the Seljuks, they are probably the best example of why the term Persianate can be so useful - an ethnic category of something like Turkic is not wrong, but it is not the most useful category of analysis when we think about the cultural and aesthetic contributions made under Seljuk patronage. But also their references to steppe culture and steppe governance makes the term Persian or Iranian limiting. We do talk about the Seljuks in episode 3 and a bit in 4!
