      I think persia (the name)should be remembered and given the respect it deserves, it did last for over 2500 years as a name, and the common respect of calling Iran, Iran. As a historian i use this distinction, Iran is 1930 onwards, persia is upto 1930 (i use a rounded number so its easier for people to remember)

    Iran has always been Iran. During the Sassanid dynasty, Iran was called Eranshahr. Eran or Iran is the name used for our country for at least 2000 years. Ferdowsi is a very famous poet which writes a a book called Shahnameh 1000 years ago. In this he refers to Iran as a country than Iranians would sacrifice their life for to protect. Greeks did not understand the concept of country or nation ad the lived in city states. As they knew Parsa one if the 4 capitals of Iran they called us Persians and the name stuck. But we always called our country Iran.

      Sor Alb just like also in Chinese, we call it 英国 (ying guo) which can be derived from 英格兰 (ying ge lan), which means England, and 国 (guo), which means country. However there are people starting to call it 联合王国 (lian he wang guo), which means United Kingdom, but since we use the “[first character of transliteration] guo” all the time, as for the case of France (fa guo), Germany (de guo), America, (mei guo), and in some rare instances Russia (e guo), using lian he wang guo just doesn’t have the same ring to it.

      Actually from a long time ago people call them self Iranian. We have historical documents of Kings introducing themselves as king of Iran from a long time ago. also a lot of which wasn't even persian themselves . We have Kings with different nationality such as ,partian , madian, lor, .....
      So it wouldn't make any sense to call it persian.
      Also you can read old Iranian books like shahnameh of ferdosi as a proof of my words.

    • @yasaminkheradmand1243
      @yasaminkheradmand1243 2 года назад +5

      @yabghus sorry I think you misunderstood me.
      When I said Iranian i use enghlish version and I meant people from Iran.
      Back in the days people call themself :
      ایرانیان>>>>
      /ɪˈrɑːn/+/i/+/yān/
      /ɪˈrɑːn/ is a noun (iran)
      /i/ a suffix for association (irani = someone from iran)
      /yān/= a suffix used for pluralize
      /i/ and /yān/ together or /iyān/ means people from somewhere or something .for example (چینیان),(اروپاییان),(دانایان),(پارسیان) which basically has the same meaning as -ian in English
      The Interesting fact is ; this is one of many similarities between enghlish and farsi language.
      And the word (iran/ɪˈrɑːn) on it's own means ((where ariyan live)) . So there wasn't a mistake it's a self-explanatory word.
      Iranshare is the name of a city.
      For further proof I have a poem from shahnameh which was written in 10th century.
      به رستم چنین گفت که ای پهلوان
      کجایند ایرانیان این زمان
      He asked rostam, where are Iranians rightnow?
      چنین یافت پاسخ از ایرانیان
      که برتو مبادا که آید زیان
      Iranians answer that we hope you never get hurt.
      و دیگر از ایران زمین هرچه هست
      که آن شهر ها را تو داری به دست.
      بپردازی و خود به توران شوی
      زمانی ز جنگ و ز کین بغنوی ‌.
      You must live iran's citys that you overrun and return to Toran and give war a break
      If you want I can email you some images of written document before Islam in iran.

      @yabghus what do you call a number of citys that are united , follow the orders of a monarch (shah) and pay taxes to that monarch, have a unified army ????
      I call it a country . If you know a better word please tell me .
      Also in the third poem I send a iranian prince literally asking the enemy king to give back IRANS city (which, in this story are Bokhara ,Samarghand ,Saghd Chach, Sijab)this citys were part of his fathers territory. It's just a story but have roots In realty.
      Seriously, I'm want to know what's the right enghlish word for that.

    • @minutemansam1214
      @minutemansam1214 2 года назад +11

      @yabghus No, they called themselves Iranians. Eranshahr is what the Sassanids called themselves. (their whole official name was Empire of the Iranians as translated into modern English). The people referred to their land as Iran, just like they do today. Because they were Iranians.
      "The Persian kings who threw people to the lions, they made human rights?"
      Cyrus the Great was one of the first emperors to outlaw slavery.
      Zoroastrianism is derived from the same root as all other Indo-European religions, but is a proper monotheistic religion as it only has one proper creator god. Note that the two great spirits of good and evil are NOT the creator deity.

    Fun fact:
    Though "Iran" and "Iraq" are similar in English, their counterparts in their actual alphabets vary tremendously:
    Iran = ایران
    Iraq = عراق
    Iran means the land of the noble (Arya meaning noble) and as mentioned in the clip, has been used for literally thousands of years.
    Iraq's name's origin has been appointed to either an extremely ancient city "Uruk" in the "cradle of civilization", Mesopotamia, which was inhabited in 5 to 6 thousands of years ago,....
    .... OR it has been appointed to a Middle Persian word "Eh-raag" (pronounced as 'a rug'), meaning "low-lands" as Iran was mountainous and those lands were lower and between the rivers.
    Either way, now you know how different those two words are. (^_^)
    P.S. for those who claim that the alphabet we (Iranians) have right now are NOT ours and was forced, I have to admit that they are correct. But the Iraqis are using the alphabets that aren't theirs either.
    The fact is that we burrowed our alphabets from Sumerians (now, Iraq) to begin with!!
    Yes, I said it.
    Cuneiform, or خط-میخی wasn't originally Iranian either. So please calm down, breath, and google this stuff and learn more. There's an ancient Persian proverb that has been used for millions of years: check yo' sewoff, befo yoo rekk yo' sewoff. 😌

      nope. Arya doesn't mean noble. its an ethnic term, the term Aryan goes back to the Avestan period when our Proto-Indo-European ancestors started migrating into Eranshahr {Land of Aryans/ named after themselves}.
      they described themselves as Aryan not just noble people. to be an Aryan is to be of Aryan blood. its the same as being Greek or African. you cant claim to be Aryan if you are not of the Blood.

    For those who think that Iranian and Persian also have the same meaning: no, they don’t.
    The people who lived in the empire never called it Persia because it wasn’t mostly Persian. You also had other peoples like the Medes, Parthians, Bactrians, Sogdians, Khwarezmians, etc. who were Iranic, but not Persian. Today the term Iranian is used for the nationality. That means that every citizen of Iran is Iranian. Then you have the term Iranic which is referred to ethnicities that speak Iranian languages, such as Kurds, Persians, Lurs, Talysh, Pashtuns, Pamiris, Tajiks, Gilaks and many others.

    Wanna know why the UK insisted on calling it "Persia"?
    In 1907, the first map of Iran's departition was drawn by Britain and Tsarist Russia, which was called the "Anglo-Russian Convention of 1907" aka the St. Petersburg agreement. According to this map, Iran was schemed to be divided into 3 parts, i.e. 2 zones of influence and a middle neutral zone (Persia). South for British influence and North for Tsarist Russian influence. It was based on this plan that Iran was occupied in the first World War.
    The old divide & conquer as usual.
