I played this with my sister every Christmas eve until I was like 13 and she was 11. We played it again last year (25 and 23) and it was still amazing.
My best friend had Dream Life Super Star, and we used to always play it together, setting each other as our best friends. It was very similar to the original, but much more streamlined and polished. Plus, it took the whole “going to high school and studying” part out of the equation. Cause like, that ain’t anybody’s dream, lol. If anyone is interested in these games, I definitely recommend this version of it!

I had a bunk bed but the bottom bunk was just a hangout spot with an old, fat tv on the ground among a bunch of pillows and blankets, and I would play this game literally all night. Dream Life really was the poor man's Sims. Also, fully got rid of mine as a child, but luckily found another copy of it when I worked at Goodwill in high school for like $6.00 with my employee discount. Did not realize how much of a steal that was until now.
This is the kind of game I would have played for hours as a kid. I had DS games like this and I was so invested in all of the shallow conversations. I’m pretty sure games like these are why I love life simulation games like the sims, animal crossing, and stardew valley today.
I loved the "producer" as a small laugh track during the gameplay. Thought it was a fun addition that brought some of that couch co-op feel the game probably encouraged.
I wasn't looking at the screen at 3:45, and I could swear that girl said, "now go blind." That is just such an eerie thing for a little girl like her to say with such excitement in her voice.

It was similarly a plug and play, but it was clearly different so I thought to myself: maybe it’s just an unrelated game, so I went on watching the video just to learn more. Then the epilogue occurred and I saw the exact game I was thinking of, which emotionally shook me. The fact that the thing that would finally help me figure out what that ancient relic from my past was would be so far in was borderline frustrating. I’ve been trying to figure this out for years and then you just plopped it right on screen. Thank you. (It was dream life superstar btw)

There were so many cool toys I would see commercials for but never really expected to ever get the toy, and Dream Life was one of those; I wanted it particularly bad though because I loved the ~techy~ part of it. Wow, I was just looking up this game a couple of weeks ago! So many good memories with this game. I never got it because I was too embarrassed to ask my parents for it (because of the dating lol) but one of my friends had it and we’d play it together. I remember a group of us playing it at her birthday party and swapping info, like the boy in the game that a mother girl in our class liked. It really was exactly what a lot of us were into, even if it was simple and had bad graphics. I wish there were more games like it for girls
Also there was one guy that was universally agreed on to be the hottest guy and there was a trick when setting your personality to try to get him

While I didnt play this as a kid, my friends and I played THE SHIT out of this in college. Sober, drunk or between classes, we made extended backgrounds and traits for the characters. Dont even get me started with glitter makeup.

I remember your best friend actually made it hard to stay loyal to just one guy if you wanted to- any guy you talked to, she'd ask you over and over if you had a crush on him, no matter how many times you said no. I clicked this video expecting to learn about a random plug-and-play game only to damn near have a seizure from the absolute brain blast to the past I got when he he showed the console and first clip of gameplay. I had this, how had I forgotten. This game was so much fun! I hope my dad still has my old p-and-p games somewhere, I'd love to play them again.
Also, you should totally play the plug-and-play games Giga Pets Explorer (I loved it as a kid!) and VMigo (I wanted it soo bad as a kid)!
God I used to love this game! So sad that I donated it just a couple years ago 😢😢. I remember wasting away my summers playing it and living my fantasy of getting in a relationship with my crush and him actually having a crush on me. Ugh the nostalgia.

I freaking LOVED this game. There were so many cool toys I would see commercials for but never really expected to ever get the toy, and Dream Life was one of those; I wanted it particularly bad though because I loved the ~techy~ part of it. My grandpa actually was able to get it for me, and I will NEVER FORGET IT!

my childhood best friend and i would play dream life and dream life superstar ALL THE TIME. we would take turns and each play like 5-7 days and then hand over the remote to the other! it was one of our favorite things to do. i definitely don’t remember it being that expensive, but it was a huge part of our childhoods and i’ve never seen anyone else talk about it

I love these kinds of videos Billiam. These strange early 2000s "sim" games and handheld games and virtual pets and stuff are so weird and are things that could only exist for such a small period of time while technology was evolving and before cell phones became ubiquitous for kids.
