It's so refreshing to see someone my age modding an Evo VIII. I bought my Evo new in 2004 and have put 278,000 miles on it. Religiously taken care of. It did blow a head gasket and that actually put a hole in the bottom of the block, so the Evo expert at my friends Mitsubishi/Kia dealer rebuilt the engine and went thru the entire car fixing & servicing everything. It was lightly tuned by WORKS out of Sonoma Raceway and also has their exhaust, short shift kit and ceramic coated downpipe, and an STM intake. It looks and drives like new, but you can't imagine the attention this car gets, especially with me, a 50-ish woman driving. Everywhere I go, I'm questioned about it, mostly, is this your sons car? You can drive a stick? Constantly getting offers thrown at me. I had it detailed and ceramic coated and the front PPF removed and reapplied and the place that did it in Prescott, AZ were so excited, they did a whole video about it for their website. Your car and all your work looks excellent and I'll be following 👍
It's definitely a rare thing to see cars like these maintained in such an immaculate condition.
You know it will be a good day when Obsessed Garage Uploads.......
A true EVO guy would straighten that battery with a giant cable tie
I am one of the first US EVO owners and we would not do it like that. Now the people who came afterwards are questionable. lol
That's what I would call a jank EVO guy.
Get a cam position sensor heat shield. Tubular manifolds are known to kill the sensor due to excessive heat. I thought it would be okay and learned the hard way. If you dont like the shield they also make cam sensor housings which rotate the sensor 180 degrees. Yes, these cars are money pits! Lol
I would of recommended you get the English Racing small battery kit. It allows you to run a Miata Na/Nb sized battery and still use the short route piping. It’s double the size of the pc680 size battery. And in Lithium form it’s got more amps than a full size lead acid battery.
Please tick that throttle cable under the intake manifold. Free. Takes 5 mins. Looks way better
Build is looking great guys. I am taking getting a lot of inspiration from this series.
Great to hear.
Glad to see it's not just me with this level of ocdness, kudo's to you gents.
Everything coming together nicely Matt, not sure if you have but look Into either the Spoolin Up COP (coil on plug system) and also consider doing a free mod which is the throttle cable re route to remove it from the valve cover for a much cleaner look.
@@wolfpacguy3824 oh I completely missed that lol thanks
Mike’s GT3RS key flex 😃🤩
Coming along nicely. Hopefully the bumper fits with those race shims.
I’d be hesitant to use the lower block fitting to the catch can for a few reasons.
It’s not needed at lower power and lower boost levels .
Stock rings seal well so crankcase pressure will be very low.
If it does move oil for some reason it will require frequent draining of the catch can.
Most people upgrade to a -10 off the side of the valve cover for over 400whp-800whp.
A stock slightly crushed bov drives really nice. You may find that the stock turbo, tial, and maf drives a little jerky on/off boost .
Matt and Mike, you may have figured it out by now, but you have your TiAL QRJ ports flipped. Swap the intake and outlet port flanges and the orientation of the diverter valve, or it won't work right. You can also swap out the internal spring for the lightest "supercharger" spring if you are having issues running it.
Evo bro my Evo was Maf tuned for the last 15 years.I converted to map /speed density tune last November . It’s the ‘new school of tuning for evos (it’s not new new) but the latest for me.
evos are great cars, have you seen them in world time attack? They basically dominated from the 2000s all the way up to 2015.
Tune it on speed density. Omni 4bar map and use the fuel temp sensor for the ait table.
Great series. 😎👍🏼.... If the cars been sat for years and years then maybe worth changing/uprating the coolant thermostat to a ralliart or cosworth item. Easy job. 👍🏼
Great idea.
If I was going short route i would have done battery relocation to the trunk. That way your car is not dead every time you're going to drive it. But it's still looking minty freah.
Looking very clean under the hood now M & M!
Can't wait to hear how it sounds now with these changes, should have a bit less lag also?
Turbo lag should be reduced with the short route piping.
I highly recommend going to Speed density. Just because once you start uping boost you might blow some intercooler pipes. While still in the stock maf you won't be able to drive home. With speed density you can limp it back home. So you don't get stranded
I agree with you 💯 but he's not a limp home kinda guy. He's a pull over and call a tow truck kind of guy.
What about trying to use some kind of support from the bolt right underneath the bracket? (it'll look weird and fully but maybe can solve this hanging prob), this kind of things bugs me as well.
Bd alchemist on RUclips is a genius when it comes to speed density tuning
that sticker tear made me scream in terror 😱did not expect this to be a horror movie
Ha ha.. that sucker didn't want to let go.
Matt i love this series :) keep it up ,and i hope You like drive this car 😉
I hope so too.
I've made over 600whp with the stock pipes, it's not really needed for that type of power if you're worried about cash. I'd have spent the money on turbo/cams instead.
I miss my IX MR every day 😢
Interesting that Sonic Pliers are NWS...same as (some of) the Milwaukee range.
Think you need to speak to roger clark motorsport in the uk. And his garage should give you inspiration
Do the new lithium car batteries pair well with the alternator on gas cars or do they present issues?
There are no real issues with using them.
get evo scan, you can bleed the ACD with that obd module and do much more than that scam box
dude, save yourself time and money and just do the battery relocation to the rear and install a proper battery. The small battery kit drove me nuts! keeps dying out. The gauges i had played a small role. Also youll clear up alot of space in front and have a clean look. so thats a plus as well.
Mitsubishi lancer register MLR I'm in Scotland that's what I use good for info.
Francis get your POS out the garage! Make room for the new Porscha giveaway
There are no more Porsche giveaways anytime soon.
I wouldn’t call this OEM plus. I would call this Super Stock. (With factory turbo, injectors, and MAF). You’ll very soon run a bigger turbo, injectors, cams and speed density.
When I think super stock, I'm thinking of heavily modified cars on the track made to look like something you would see on everyday streets. We're talking multiple times the power output you would see on a stock car.
This car is nowhere near that. Even when I do an upgraded turbo and tune, I would still consider it to be OEM plus.
200 K in the beater
What is the purple Porsche key to?
Probably Mike’s gt3 rs
Mike just picked up his GT3 RS a few weeks ago.
Shiny black ultra Premium SG style. ...
👍
Get a arc intercooler
The EVO community cares by the way. That kit has always been sad. The Buschur and STM kits are way better.
so much for Bolt On parts.... LOL
So did you get the Evo to have a project car to test all of your tool sets on while you build your master collection, or did working on the Evo inspire you to perfect your tool setup? 😂
Neither of those. I got the Evo to help work on being able to actually drive again. The tools are just another one of my many projects.
Tell me about it, these cars can be money pits for sure. I'm glad I'm past that 🙏🏼
Nothing wrong with MAF...
ughhh why do this to an example with 1900 miles? should've just left it untouched :(
MURAD form Toronto 🇨🇦👌👋🤘🏻
fart burbles, wooshie wooshoos and nerds wearing tight shorts hahaha, what a segway into dork talk
Just get Adam LZ's tuner Jamie Marsh over 400 horsepower you start to get crank walk on stock bottom
That’s not true. Plenty of people run the stock engine 600-700+ and keep the torque down. Chris carbee knows this platform well .
Evo 8s have a strong bottom end. 300kw on stock rods and pistons is easily achievable. Crank walk was only on early vr4 and evo 1/2
Your gonna have a bad time with MAF and a atmosphere vented BoV. With your particular ness it’s not fun
Nvm good on your tuner for recommending a recirc BoV lololol
🚨 Matt, it’s called recording NOT videoing 🤦♂️. Every time you say videoing I want to stab myself in the ear with a dollar tree screwdriver.
The meaning of videoing is to record on video. It works.
Great build, but do you always have to talk bad about us “Evo Guys” and the car?! Makes me wanna unsubscribe 🤷🏻♂️
I'm only talking about those janky Evo guys that zip tie everything.
this guy lets you know he has money a few times in this video. we get it. you have alot of money.
