Thanks for making these video seven on smaller engines. Gambled this week on a 20 hp yamaha. Out here in Hawaii slim pickings sometimes for used motors thst are in good shape. This gives me confidence. Thank God bless
same problem occured with my buddies 40 merc, dealer quoted over $500 for a new pump. Bought an amazon special pump for $30 and replaced it, bought a second one just incase and the second one came with a mecury sticker on the box...
Great video! Hey Aaron next time you mix a small amount of epoxy try doing it in the bottom of an aluminum soda can, as in turn the can upside down and use the underside. It works perfect! Keep up the good work my friend.
Next time lay down a coat of white Primer first, then the color You’re going for - big difference. A paint inspector showed me two pieces with the exact same top Coat , but one had a white primer base and one didn’t. Huge difference
At the end of the video, you have a nice looking Mercuhama outboard. I would suggest painting the cowling Mercury black ... then buy three decals. I think you'd get more money when you sell it. ... my 2 cents. Thanks for your video and insights. Very helpful.
Great content as usual, please be safe weather to come is going to be really bad for a couple of days, please be back next Tuesday save and sound!!! 🙏🏻
Can't wait to repaint my old Black Max. Going to use a primer sanded to perfection then two coats of Mercury black and a good coat of clear coat or two. What's a good filler for the lower it has some corrosion but not a lot? There's bound to be some pitting after sanding.
Fuel - air - ignition - water flow - outboards need all 4 all the time. Engine hours matter more than age, up to a point. Salting can be deadly. If in doubt flush it out. No flow = No go. Fuel quality is the major issue bar none. Water pumps are cheap so change them often. Marine means corrosive. Advice only helps if you use it. Good stuff !
I had a real nice aluminum boat for sale at one time. Tracker boat. with a stained outboard. water spots? exhaust stains? not sure. boat was fairly new. Not many calls about it on CL. So, i sprayed the outboard with deft clear poly. and it looked almost new. next day a line of buyers showed up. lol
At one time Yamaha, tahatsu made Brokery I mean Mercury outboards some still do. don’t believe me ask Aaron he will tell you JT HOOKED N ROLLING OFFSHORE 🇺🇸🇺🇸🎣🐠🐟🛥
There is a mercury 8hp wich is basically a black yamaha 8hp with a mercury sticker 😅 my one has water in the engine oil somehow. Starts on First pull but after some time water/oil mixture comes up the breather hose into the carburettor and stops the engine…
It looks like you answered one of my questions that nobody’s been able to answer. Does that noco boost box work to trim motors? And also will it give power to the motor to read engine hours. Thanks for all the videos!
Great video like always, look forward to every Tuesday for your video's. One question, where can I purchase the spray paint that you used? Thank you and stay safe!
OK. couple of issues here. 1. Blue finger / broken finger, normal finger. I'm lost. Also, 2. Not sure about your respirator (shirt). are the filters easily replaceable.....lol
Generally they could get saved, if you are talking fully submerged, that's not the best thing but the sooner you get them running and cleaned out the better. This might help: ruclips.net/video/saMhW4TKC4o/видео.html&t
What about that corroded steering arm? I'm looking at a Merc 90 4cyl. that is corroded like a old railroad spike....big project to change it I'm sure. How safe are these things if rusted heavily?
Greetings! Rose here, expressing gratitude for your comment! You should've primed the panels first then rubbed them again with 600 grit wet & dry. that paint is not going to last long as I bet it's not made to stick to plastics on it's own. Not being rude but you were also spraying far too close hence all the stripeyness.
I have the same motor with an overheat problem. Hoping it’s not this issue. Going to replace the thermostat. I just got it and the guy said it had only 300 hours all freshwater
@bornagainboating I swapped the thermostat and it’s having the same issue. I pulled the lower unit and the impeller looks pretty new and feels good. What should be my next steps? It pees fine and starts and runs it just overheats when running wide open after a few minutes
@@basedchris8784 I have the same problem. The whole cooling system was taken apart (changed the rubber thing at the adapter plate, new impeller, housing, plate, gaskets, everything), we even took off the cylinder head to remove any salt buildup or debris from the waterways. Still overheats. To me it feels like it doesn't have enough water pressure when the pump needs to pick up the water. If I attach a hose the "pee" looks a lot stronger and healthier, when it's in the water it feels a bit weak to me, even at higher rpms. Maybe it's a construction issue? What do you think Aaron?
Damn you know your way around these engines. I'd love to be that confident fixing Marine engines. I'd be buying up small broken boat motors and repairing them refurbishing them and selling them 😂
Love your vids very informative and useful for sure . Sub for sure here. Im a retired auto mechanic and tinker with 2 and 4 strokes some . Big bass fisherman. Ever come to ga and wanna go ive got ya covered . Gambler bass boat and lanier!. Be my honor

Thanks for the tip!
Wow nice job diagnosing the problem and fixing it. Always makes me feel good when I’m able to find and fix an issue and make it new again
I've done the amazon / eBay pumps many times , they are usual made by Mitsubishi , they work fine as long as the fuel isn't garbage
Pretty sophisticated Respirator, looks like the same one I used for Covid !

Spraying a mercury Yamaha grey is so cursed😭

It won't break down now...

I have a tahasu single carb. 40hp m40c it's exactly like the twin carb mercury 50hp.
@@hookednrolling2009 mariner not mercury
This editing is hilarious 😂 all the little sound bites edited in👍👍
Get yourself the spray can trigger adaptor. Makes spray painting sooo much easier.
It looks like you answered one of my questions that nobody’s been able to answer. Does that noco boost box work to trim motors? And also will it give power to the motor to read engine hours. Thanks for all the videos!
Awesome videos! I've about watched them all. Definitely sharing this channel with everyone I know.
You're the best!
Awesome 😎 I need a 25 or 30 hp outboard for my Tri-hull
Excellent paint job bro! Clear coat has done me wrong too many many times!
People blast clear on before the base is dry also 1k clear is trash use 2k

Great way to see if the pickup tube has a crack in it! 👌👌
Loved the video and really hope your finger heals - God Bless.....
Is recommend getting a plotter and give it some nice homemade dacials.
Cost 50 cents and takes 20 minutes
Great step-by-step repair project. Thanks for the tips.
Thanks for watching!
I love it how easy you make it look.
Still wondering about no clear coat on cowling ?
Nice job!
Where can I get one of those custom paint masks? Lol
What about the lower unit? Working under load?
When u took the cowling off this engine looks identical to my 2022 Tohatsu 25C
They are basically the same thing :) lol
I love your videos, but I have a question what happened to your finger how did you break it?
Great video mate…well done
Glad you enjoyed it
It looks pretty good; yeah stick it back in
A good deal looks awesome, really good for a spray paint job
More lighter coats....pull that can back a few more inches. Turned out amazing though. Great job!!
Awesome video. How long did it take you to film it? I noticed a broken finger brace. Appreciate the dedication!
Great vid and I love the brand name of Mercaha!!! LOL!!!🤣
What did you do to your finger ? I really enjoy your videos i always learn something
Can you share the flipping info? What kind of profit can you make on a job like that?
Gotta get yourself those turbo cans. They’re phenomenal
I love these. Helps me with my merc.
Love the videos your a great mechanic wish you worked close to where I live so I can take my boat to you lol👍🤙🏼
Great video like always, look forward to every Tuesday for your video's. One question, where can I purchase the spray paint that you used? Thank you and stay safe!
Mercury and salt water just doesn’t mix well. Like oil and water.
Nice recovery job though.
You really know your way around a boat motor.
Once again great video enjoyed it very much
What year did you go to MMI?
Hope you and your family are safe. Hurricane Ian has been pretty devastating.🙏
OK. couple of issues here. 1. Blue finger / broken finger, normal finger. I'm lost. Also, 2. Not sure about your respirator (shirt). are the filters easily replaceable.....lol
If a boat got flooded during a storm are the engines completely gone? Or could they be saved??

Great work on finding out what was an issue. Horrible choice of paint. 😢
Aaron, thank you for the hard work you do, this is great.
You are one very talented individual, hope you keep making videos. Do you work on older diesel engines?
Any advice on how to find a good Grady
White/Yamaha F300 mechanic in Venice,FL?
Not really outside of Google and Reviews and some questioning of the mechanic ;)
Nice looking bully boat 👍

Trying to make a Yamaha out of a Merc. LLOL
What did you do to your finger?
Great rescue. Can’t help but think how wonderfully uncomplicated and reliable a 70’s Evinrude 25 would be in comparison lol
13 ft Whaler-nice!
Not the shirt over the face for a paint mask lol osha would approve lol LTV.
I wish I could take my engine to you it's on my sailboat in the keys.
Why put grey on a black merc ??? 😮
Most like a mini Mercury verado
Yamaha gray tohatsumerc 😮
I have a 2018 mercury verardo its getting a lot of fuel in crankcase can anyone help please
Hey what's the serial number on that Merc? JK Aaron! I had my 16' Lund Alaskan SSV stolen with a Merc 25 hp on it
I will have nightmares seeing a Merc painted Yamaha grey, please print a correction… it was Mariner grey LMAO!!!!!
get a Mercaha decal made for it
It would probably be more reliable with Yamaha gray
You the man.
Excellent broski
I have exact same thing happened to my engine and cost me $800
