    Nice video. I purchased a Dixie bluefin few years ago . Bad engine and a leaves were probably a foot deep . The wife thought I was crazy for bringing it home . I completely redone it and it gets more conversation than any boat on lake . I believe it’s the only walk around in our area . We love it including the wife lol.

    Please stop making great videos. I was up until 4am watching and had to leave the house at 6:30 for work. Thanks a lot. Here I am watching again. As long as you keep making videos I will never get any sleep. Cut me some slack!

    Really nice build, I love seeing old boats brought back to life. I have three that I am working on but they are more major refits. The hardest part here, is finding a good used motor for a decent price. I think my next project I am going to go with one more like this without all the major repairs and quicker turnaround. Great video and love the lights.

    Nice job on that boat. Not keen on those paint flicks in the cabin. I would have painted it over. The hatch is an emergency exit and also to let heat out. A tip if you do another floor like that, put full boards at either ends and work to the centre, that is where your filler strip goes. If you reduce a few strips by a quarter inch, your filler will be the corresponding amount wider, so not as noticeable. Lift your ladder and secure with a strap when underway. Good luck with the next project.

    Imagination, skill and a good work ethic.
    You have it in spades, which is why your videos are so enjoyable!
    Thank you for making this video, your refurbishment of older, neglected, but otherwise good boats is excellent, and will encourage others to do the same, thereby extending the lives of these craft, and the pleasure and usefulness they give.

      Aquasports are a known quality hull("hull truth"). Good choice with that I agree. Was looking at a well duded out Grady White a while back for an entry level off shore ride. Not a fan of the over the top new machines on the market currently although the new motors are very nice these days for repower.

    I have that exact boat and it is currently at a local boat shop for a repower. Getting a new Suzuki 200 hp. It is a very solid boat. The old motor is an Evinrude 200 HP. It was sitting in my yard for 4 years unused and I recently decided to bring it back to life. Thanks for this video and some great ideas.

    I've seen people in north Texas asking $4,500 for much less nice boats with only 40 - 50 hp motors. There is something about the area in which you guys live that has a lively market for good used boats, fairly cheap, and easy to renovate if you have a good work ethic, elbow grease and a basic knowledge of outboard diagnosis and repair. God on you, guy, this is one of my fave channels.

    Awesome job! I am also a restorer and have found that little details make big difference in maximizing ROI. For example the drawers in the cabin could have been stained to look new and the striping on the exterior of the boat would have provided a nice touch if repainted. Little things like that make a restoration pop!

    I was a boat crazy little boy I sailed battery operated toy boats in small ponds in most of the parks in London. As a older boy I played in seaside rock pools with my boats. In my teens my father bought me a kayak I used it on our many English rivers.. I've always been in love with boating.
    In my 20s cars girls and beer and work took over hahaha but I've always wanted a big boat. Now retired due to ill health in my 60s I just have to be content watching boats on all these great RUclips channels . Oh and I'm on a big boat next week celebrating my birthday with six of my family on a Cruise around the Med.
    Thanks for you very interesting videos doing what I would love to do messing around with old boats. New subscriber Spike from the UK.

After we moved to Parkhill Ontario I got a part time job while going to school at a Gm car dealership I learned to do auto body and fibreglass , mechanical repairs , painting , auto and boat detailing . My boss would have me go to Lake Huron with my girl friend to detail his boat a couple times a summer and after I was done he would let me take his

      What did you use to fill in the gashes?

    • @hidel308
      @hidel308 4 года назад +38

      The gashes are typically filled in with a two-part epoxy you can get it at most marine supply stores. Or you could just use JB Weld. And bottom painting under the bunks is done by jacking the boat up a few inches. You do this by lowering the tongue all the way down. Putting cement or wood blocks under the elevated rear corners of the boat covered by cushions. I use old towels. Then bring the trailer tongue back up to max, and prop up the front sort of like the back. I use a v shaped plywood rest on top of blocks to stabilize the bow. Level the trailer out and you should have a few inches to work that paint in there. Hope it helps. Aquasports rock!

      James Shelnutt easy, jack up the front with boat stands under the back, then pull the trailer out and set the front on some blocks

    • @chase7350
      @chase7350 3 года назад +4

      @James Shelnutt go to 11:11 and look at that wooden contraption in the bed of his truck my bet is that he uses that under the middle of the boat and uses a jack under it to lift it up.

    The concern I would have with boats of this age is what is the condition of all the foam flotation? If the flotation is all water logged then the boat will weigh a lot more than it should (if nothing else increasing fuel consumption), if the foam is deteriorated then it won't be of much help if the boat takes on a lot a water for some reason when on the water.

    • @sidescrollin
      @sidescrollin 3 года назад

      Wouldn't you know? If the water can get into the foam, it can move around. It would tend to run to the back of the boat and you'd have a soft floor and transom as a tell-tale.

  • @carlc8388
    @carlc8388 5 лет назад

    Great job as usual. I would have done a couple more things to make it perfect. Stain the drawers in the cabin, replace or maybe just remove the crappy vinyl trim panel on the 2 inner sides and remove the decals and paint on new ones. Finally maybe add a bimini if i could find one cheap. My only other comment is like some of the others. How can you buy that motor for $500? And how can you buy that boat and trailer for $1000? I guess things are different down in Florida. A decent running 200 hp Yamaha would fetch at least $5000 up here. The trailer would cost about $1500 and the boat maybe could be had for 2k with the blown motor.

    Please don't stain the wood -- it's teak. sand it and use tung oil on it. That has been the classic treatment for teak for several hundred years.

    • @nickking1510
      @nickking1510 5 лет назад

      Tom Herbert you won’t like me on my 1977 searay my wood was going bad cracking, chunks missing ,as well I sand and oiled but it was still not good so I filled in cracked and missing bits and primed and applied a black satin industrial coating . If in the future I get some time in the winter I may purchase some new wood and hand rub and oil it . But over all my faded but mechanical well taken care of Omc 351 powered searay turned out as good a results as this video and it came with a HD tandem axel trailer with surge brakes and all electronics some tools full subrella top that was badly stained and moss on it ( stitched a few seams and washed top and refinished it )1800 .oo Canadian and only used in fresh water and marina Serviced for 12 years including a full rebuild of complete out drive on the Omc out drive

    You made one mistake, a trailered boat should not be bottom painted! It increases weight and drag to slow speed and increase fuel use. It stays on a trailer no need for bottom paint. If you want to paint to pretty it up use Awl grip or Imron. They will keep the speed and not use fuel.

    I know how it’s is man. I have a 1966 13 ft whaler and I did a new gel coat job on her about a 1 1/2 years ago and I live in Saint Petersburg Florida like you do. And literally the last few hours my cover around my carport came down and I got soooo many bugs in the gel coat. I was pissed. Lol. I think I’m gonna spray Alexseal this time. They say it has a 30 year warrantee and my buddy used it in his whaler after I told him about it and he’s in love with it. He literally had no cosmetic blemishes in the finish what so ever.

    Thats exactly the kind of boat I want to get. Q1 At that age were you concerned about rotted transom and stringers, soft floors? I assume you checked for that? Would have loved to see your pre purchase inspection. Q2 How and where do you find a Yamaha motor for that price that works? You have the luck of the god's lol

      Robert Livingston at the Sue they have a population of self sustaining Atlantic salmon that spawn there and can be fished with waders and a fly rod escaped from a university project or salmon farm and I have heard there are big coaster brook trout on the Canadian side and lake trout

    This boat looks sick as but the only little problem is that if the motor starts leaking oil, fuel or grease that’ll all drain into the live well and if there is bait or fish in there they will just die. But good work looks good👍
