you probably dont give a damn but does anybody know a tool to get back into an instagram account?? I was dumb lost the account password. I would appreciate any tips you can offer me!
I like how they call the cards "desirable" and "collectible" because they can't talk about secondary market value. Meanwhile, the players are constantly choosing between guaranteed card value and the chance to win prizes with a deck of cheap playables.
Probably because they would get sued in many countries for illegal gambling (aka booster packs). They very carefully construct news sets and the distribution of the rarities to give a specific EV of each pack/box/case. They likely have a very good idea of the expected value of each card before it's even released. If this was acknowledged, it would basically be gambling. Unlike baseball cards which have/had values that changed with the sport player's performance, these cards can be engineered to have a guaranteed value. Wizards themselves admitted even cards of the same rarity in the same set aren't printed equally. It's obvious gambling if they were too open about the value of their cards. They will use words like the "power" of a card and such.
I can better understand them talking that way about new cards, but with cards from the original expansion, it seems like they don't really have anything on the line anymore. Obviously if there's legal issues, it makes sense, though.
www.mtggoldfish.com/price/Limited+Edition+Beta/Kormus+Bell#paper granted $31 was tcgplayer moderately played, but okay your right, it's around $300, my bad. Indeed he messed up that pick lol.
This was such an amazing event, but it also Highlights that they should really bring back Rochester drafts back for finals at GP's. Limited has such terrible viewer count on twitch, Rochester would help a tonne, it's so much better to watch when you can see everyones pick and see the actual draft strategy of the pod. Makes for such a better 'story' of the draft table. I know they got rid of it because it takes longer but if it was just for top 8's of major events, an extra 40 mins isn't going to matter.
I don't know what the actually price on Two-Headed Giant of Forlys is, but back in the day (revised era) that was one of the more expensive and rare cards , as it was one of the initial dozen or so first wave of "discontinued" rare cards from the original set (as in they were in A/B/U but not Revised). I'd guess a pack fresh beta Two-Headed Giant could be worth like 1-2k if it's graded 9.0+. The next wave of discontinued cards (going from Revised -> 4th Ed.) were no where close to as valuable and no longer had the appeal of trying to get some of those original discontinued ones back then. Except for the dual lands, obviously, but even after it was announced that they weren't coming back they still didn't get expensive right away, since revised had a print run that was like 50-100x that of Alpha/Beta/Unlimited combined.. Sol Ring WOULD have been a big deal if it were rare and not uncommon (and especially if it were subsequently placed on the reserved list). The cards that mattered from that 2nd "discontinued" wave were mainly the dual lands, Sol Ring, Wheel of Fortune, Balance, Demonic Tutor, Vesuvan Doppleganger, Fork, Regrowth, Fastbond, Copy Artifact, Braingeyser, Clone, Demonic Hordes, ante cards - but yeah, they didn't get really expensive and/or sought-after like that initial group since the print run was sooo much higher (dual lands did but not for years).
The original pack of "discontinued" cards I'm referring to are like: Power9, Time Vault, Gauntlet of Might, Chaos Orb, Icy Manipulator, Forcefield, Lich, Two-Headed Giant of Forlys, Raging River, Sink Hole, Berserk, Jade Statue, Illusionary Mask, Cyclopean Tomb, Word of Command, Blaze of Glory, Natural Selection, etc. Those first 6 being the biggest deal, but Two-Headed Giant was kind of collectible for some reason so it was also kinda cool to have.
Our play group once considered doing an Alpha/Beta/Arabian Nights draft back in '97/'98 or so and we were like "This will set us back like 900 dollars each, it's insane". Sweet summer children we were.
my hands are shaking when i see this.... cant believe i may get the chance to do the unlimited qualifier here at Singapore tomorrow! I started at the end of unlimited back when i was a teen, it feels like being back young again.
53 minutes in. Plateau continued with the same art in Unlimited(didn't change until revised). And actually there are not only 7 lands in this pack. There's 8! And Craw Wurm was never restricted or banned. Peace Out
The whole time I was sitting here, watching all these amazing/expensive cards get opened, waiting for a Sol Ring to be opened. Surprised not one person mentioned that. Was REALLY hoping to see one, as that was SUCH a hugely impactful card back then (since most ppl even in 1994/5 when I was playing did not have any power - although it's actually even more powerful than power9 a lot of the time). Very disappointed :(.
Most GPs have History of Draft events these days where you can sign up to draft older sets. I don't think there's enough money in those sets to draw out the pros. I'd love to see it done for some other older sets. Maybe 4 packs each... Beta, Arabian, Antiquities, Legends. About the same number of cards... but with fewer basics.
I wonder if these packs all came out of the same box. I was too young to play with them but I was under the impression they were a lot more rare then this draft makes them look. Any one who was around back then? The time walk/power for example
If wotc still have some beta packs left, I would like to recommend a better usage of those packs than to give them away to the pros. Insert them in cases, like one pack in a hundred cases, as a treasure. They’ll make much more money from that than showing off packs that the viewers cannot get.
Bit more than that, only based on those 2 big money cards. I believe Beta Underground Sea is one of the 3-4 most expensive cards in the game (pack fresh - graded 9.5) can fetch 10k by itself I believe (without looking it up). I'm sure a graded 9.5 Beta Mox Emerald is gonna be over 5k as well. Not to mention all the other pack fresh cards he got (which, without really remembering what he took, must be worth another few thousand). Closer to 20-22k, imo. Once graded. EDIT: If either of those 2 end up being a 10.0 they could be worth an additional 3-5k (which they could be, even after playing with them, as long as he sleeves them instantly and shuffles/plays as carefully as humanly possible).
I just did a 2 second search for "beta underground sea" and the first one that I noticed was on ebay for 30k. Granted, I'm sure it won't actually get THAT much (at least atm), but it's for a pack fresh 9.5 quad++, which isn't too big of a stretch since these cards are all literally right from pack to sleeve. Truly pack fresh, graded Power (beta USea is definitely an unofficial "power" card in terms of price) are worth WAY more than ungraded "nm" much of the time.
Just to let you guys know.....this video is fucking bonkers good. You guys hit a fucking homerun with this one its epic as shit. I'm blown out from the chon cron by the way. Sorry I couldn't hold it in. I just love that reef you know?
First booster opened, after fireball, paralyze was the best card to pick, yet 6 players did not. They should ask old school players for these kind of drafts, so the cards get the respect they deserve ;)
Why are basic lands being picked over any actual card? In a supposedly big event being played by "pros" with something on the line? I'd really like someone to state why this was happening here. It's like checking behind on the river with the nuts. You'd get removed from the event/tournament for collusion. What rationale was given by these players to be taking basic lands like 5th pick?
Oh hey! Look at that! A bunch of people who abandoned magic for various other tcg's, receiving $10,000+ just to show up! Seems fair to have a $150k prize pool for 8 players who haven't shown loyalty to magic in years!
Buy-in was 50 dollars... and making top-8 after 5 rounds of Swiss of Dominaria Sealed Deck in a 256 player field, and winning the top 8 draft. There were 8 of these events at GP Vegas. Each winner got a seat at that table.
why call this draft at all instead of simply naming it wheel of fortune rare pick giveaway? this has nothing to do with the game, it's more like a bingo club really.
Interesting hearing Forsythe rag on some of the old cards when this set is better than anything designed recently on top of the fact back then they were designing in a space of naivety and just winging it on the back of Garfields genius (mathematically and otherwise). Him and Rosewater at the helm it is no wonder the state modern sets are in design-wise.
It's an interesting time to have that opinion, given how widely Dominaria has been praised. Also objectively, there's no denying the mess some of these cards are from both a templating and gameplay perspective.
Irony, what is keeping Dominaria from the trash bin same as other recent sets for most people is the Garfield touch. Ha. And yes, some are a mess, see my comment you are replying to. Not denying it, I am saying it is interesting that Forsythe is talking down on them so much when as I said before "this set is better than anything designed recently on top of the fact back then they were designing in a space of naivety and just winging it on the back of Garfields genius (mathematically and otherwise)." They got it more correct the first time, with a few errors, but they were just winging it in uncharted territory. Modern sets have more issues and they have 25 years of experience designing behind them. This is my point, a sign of a need of change of leadership. Add on top of that in order for a set to sell, you need to bring in Garfield again (Dominaria) then this company is either nepotistic or not self aware.
No, this is real magic. The brainlet standard format youre likely playing with kids on friday nights, and ugly sci fi borders on overcosted fantasy creatures is some sort of cheap TCG that just uses the old name.
“It’s like a forest that can be disenchanted”
you probably dont give a damn but does anybody know a tool to get back into an instagram account??
I was dumb lost the account password. I would appreciate any tips you can offer me!
@Camden Wyatt Instablaster ;)
Moxes...die to removal. What horribly designed cards!
I like how they call the cards "desirable" and "collectible" because they can't talk about secondary market value. Meanwhile, the players are constantly choosing between guaranteed card value and the chance to win prizes with a deck of cheap playables.
Wait, why can't they?
Probably because they would get sued in many countries for illegal gambling (aka booster packs). Pretty positive they didn't get to keep cards. So no... they weren't making any choices more than "will this work in my deck".
John Seigo they got to keep the cards. You had to.win many rounds of magic to sit at that draft table
17:14 first pick basic island, with a 300$ card in the table, this dude is my spirit animal
There was no $300 card on the table, Kormus Bell is like $31, on the other hand, that pack the most expensive card was the sunset island at $50
I will buy you booster fresh Kormus Bell at 31$ all day long.
Hyun Woo Jang ill buy all the NM beta kornus bell you can get by 31$
www.mtggoldfish.com/price/Limited+Edition+Beta/Kormus+Bell#paper
granted $31 was tcgplayer moderately played, but okay your right, it's around $300, my bad. Indeed he messed up that pick lol.
Hyun Woo Jang well... if you ignore the boosterfresh NM part...

RIP Quinton Hoover.. one of the cornerstones for early magic!
AMAZING event. I really hope more of these are to come.
Eventually, there will be none of these!
There is another rochester draft to come where Brian Kibler will be there. The draft will be beta, antiquities, and legends. It's on August 2nd
So happy they did this I love limited and this might be the only time I could ever watch these packs opened in this draft format
Q- Power Surge? What does that do?
A- Nothing. Absolutely nothing.
real nice, two power, three duals, wheel, time vault and fastbond!

a lot of Fireballs, not so many Channels.
53 minutes in. Plateau continued with the same art in Unlimited(didn't change until revised). And actually there are not only 7 lands in this pack. There's 8! And Craw Wurm was never restricted or banned. Peace Out
is there a link to watch the actual game afterwards?
ruclips.net/video/NN7DRN4B8fU/видео.html is the finals
LSV's deck is sick. (not that expensive, but very powerful, relatively speaking)
39:37 for a special treat.
yuck
The whole time I was sitting here, watching all these amazing/expensive cards get opened, waiting for a Sol Ring to be opened. Surprised not one person mentioned that. Turn 1 - Swamp -> Ritual -> Sol Ring -> Black Vise x4. "Your go."
Down to 8 before you draw your first card. =]
3 Duals and two pieces of power and a Time Vault im hiring the guy to pick my packs
So these are original unopened beta packs? WOW
lsv picking orcish artillery over a pack fresh beta two headed giant of foriys and making to the final with it. now that's what you call "class"
Why did they put gloves on then take them off?
What else would you do with gloves?
Ok so where are the videos of the games?
I hope they do more of these, even later sets like Onslaught & OG Innistrad :)
I need to keep my eye out for these! The interest in an ABU/ANT/LEG draft would be immense :)
Looks like Dredge got a new toy.
Well we ALL know you just can't kill Ben Stark.
Look at all those cards expensive cards that probably will never be played in real life lol
The dude says Tundra and they show a Savannah. Come on Official M:TG! Who is your post production dude or if it's truly live, your Tri-Caster dude.
This is the Power of the real Magic the gathering!
I wonder if these packs all came out of the same box. I was too young to play with them but I was under the impression they were a lot more rare then this draft makes them look. Any one who was around back then? The time walk/power for example
They did come out of the same box!
THEY SAID THEY DUG DEEP IN THE WAREHOUSE TO FIND THESE BETA PACKS! one question. HOW MANY MORE THEY GOT?!! ALSO, GIVE THEM TO ME!!!
So, how much did the beta pack price spike after this?
This was so sweet!
this is amazing
Looks like it could be an expensive hobby if you got hooked.
If wotc still have some beta packs left, I would like to recommend a better usage of those packs than to give them away to the pros. Insert them in cases, like one pack in a hundred cases, as a treasure. They’ll make much more money from that than showing off packs that the viewers cannot get.
Insane packs
Where did the packs come from?
"Tundra"
>shows savannah
Awesome! What were the details on this event? Did the drafters get to keep their cards? Did they have to pay to enter or was it by invitation?
I'd also like to know
30:29 I think they do keep the cards.
They keep the cards and they had to play in dominaria qualifiers i believe win them to qualify
Top 8 of gp las vegas
there were 8 qualifier events, winner gets to be in the draft, keep what you draft
What happened to the "opponent loses next turn" text for Time Walk? Was that Alpha exclusive?
That actually never made it into the game. It was on playtest cards only, back before even Alpha.
if only i knew wtf i was opening back then. lol
ben stark 10k richer

Too bad this was filmed with a camcorder from 1993
38:10 😏
Too bad beta has ante cards. Beta throwback drafts on mtgo would be amazing.
Holy crap! It's weird that they have to explain the Rochester.
Just to let you guys know.....this video is fucking bonkers good. You guys hit a fucking homerun with this one its epic as shit. I'm blown out from the chon cron by the way. Sorry I couldn't hold it in. I just love that reef you know?
Did they pay for this? Or were the boosters from wizards?
pablo martinez he said in the beginning this was from a box in a wotc warehouse
Ronnie Doyle uuh thanks i skipped the beginning 😂
Why do they all take their gloves off when it comes to picking the cards up? That seems like the exact point at which the gloves should be on.
Do they get to keep this cards?
yes
Scrubland is where the scrubs live
Hype!
One announcer is close to the microphone and other is far away
First booster opened, after fireball, paralyze was the best card to pick, yet 6 players did not. They should ask old school players for these kind of drafts, so the cards get the respect they deserve ;)
Awesome
ballers draft!

Because the other cards are bad, so they get the lands for being more expensive
Yeah you know sleeves exist and they've been a thing for like 20 years now but we'll wear gloves instead wtf
Oh hey! Look at that! A bunch of people who abandoned magic for various other tcg's, receiving $10,000+ just to show up!
Seems fair to have a $150k prize pool for 8 players who haven't shown loyalty to magic in years!
de$irable
^_^, coool!!!
Buy in was like 3000
? I thought they all had to qualify for this. WotC had various hurdles to get one of the 8 spots. $3k to buy in beta draft seems pretty reasonable.
You're correct, you had to qualify for this draft.

noobs no alpha
15 minutes of talk .... thanks guys
Last
Ok
First!
why call this draft at all instead of simply naming it wheel of fortune rare pick giveaway? this has nothing to do with the game, it's more like a bingo club really.
What are you talking about? They played with their decks for an Alpha starter, which is like a $15k+ prize.
Rochester draft is a tradition.
Please leave. The adults are talking.

this is not magic
It’s the only magic.
TheAcidBrn is that a reference to The Neon Demon? :D
Ha! Good reference, but no. Just saying this game has some old roots and wouldn’t have grown without them.
No, this is real magic. The brainlet standard format youre likely playing with kids on friday nights, and ugly sci fi borders on overcosted fantasy creatures is some sort of cheap TCG that just uses the old name.
