This is a detailed look at how to use the nikon d5100 DSLR camera. In this video I go over all the different functions of the camera controls.
That is a really helpful run through of the features of the D5100. As a complete newbie and having just bought my first DSLR I had to admit I was kind of frightened to play with the menu's!! I feel kind of liberated and free to go fiddle now!! Thank you!
ahhhh!!! hats off to the d5100!! i feel that the guy is being very concise-skipping stuff that is not important and focusing on what is of course. i like photography and like taking pictures for fun and especially when i go on vacations. i was considering the nikon -510, which is a good camera as well, but would limit me down the road, so when i saw the d5100, i was sold. been reading up on it so i can be familiar with the product. team nikon!!!
thanks brotha for your great explanation ..i've just got my Nikon D5100 and so excited to use it in immediately. this is really awesome camera for me as a beginner on photodrafi and DSLR..
I love your pronounciation it is very clear. Thank you so much for helping us :-)
it can be adjusted in the picture control settings in the shooting menu. This will only sharpen jpegs though, raw images will come out at the same sharpness.
Hi with that flash pop up button and holding it down for a brighter or less bright flash is there a reading to let you know if you have gone brighter or less bright and by how much is that how do you know or is just push and look at flash and push again till you get it right. Thank you so much great vid off to see part 2 now :)
@Barrattsmini it is in the camera setting menu, please read your manual to find this stuff out first.
good tutorial may i know what lens are using during tutorial? thanks more power
@QQQQcon thanks. i found vidconvert for about $8 bucks and it seems to be more efficient. I downloaded the trial to test it and will purchase the full version asap!
@QQQQcon Hmmm nice review! I like this camera, but the kit lens isn't enough (of course). Can you tell me whats that lens and where did you bought it? The same goes to the lens hood.
Another great review bro! Continued success!!
@TheThinin yes and it is a nikon 50mm f/1.4
@stavyros nikon 18-200mm would be my top choice.
yes, it will be under the custom setting menu
@Jules7892 It is advertised as an entry level DSLR, and the camera is not just for studio pros. It is fantastic for taking on vacation or on safari or whatnot.
it should show a reading on the lcd screen when the info button is pressed. It has been some time since I have had the d5100 so you may want to double check elsewhere.
@2550prince not sure with the d5100, you will want to check into that
@SideDark89 need to take off of auto or scene modes, you can only fully adjust cameras with manual modes (M,A,S,P), read the manual.
Sweet lens. What kind is it?
I believe you can select photos you want deleted. i usually just go through and delete one by one unless I am deleting everything in which case i use delete all.
Hello There! Good job here. What lens do you have on this camera here?
@MeineKleineWaffe no I rent this gear to review it, alot of the images are taken with a d300.
hey!
I got the same camera a while ago ( 2 months)
But I noticed yesterday that it makes a lil noise when it autofocuses.
I cant even hear it in noisy settings, but I just wanted to know if its normal or not.
Also I have been taking good care of it and it has never fallen down or anything
hi,,.im planning to buy a nikon D5100,,.you think that this will gonna work to me???i never had a DSLR before,.i love taking a picture,,like landscape nature photography ,,,.
whats your main camera you use? and how often do you use the d5100?
the 35mm is a overall better focal length on dx cameras for portrait photography. the 50mm would be used as a short telephoto lens on the d5100.
hi Conon, what about the lens you used in this video, nikkor 18-?mm
@tala012 the one that came with the lens, I dont remember exactly what its called.
Hey, can you do a video exactly just like this one for the D5200?
@hemchandran777 nikon 50mm f/1.4, hood will come with the lens
Just bought this camera, literally and had your video ready to watch. First off ... how do I gain access to white balance through the menu?
@zee286 sorry, rented the lens and I dont remember.
I am waiting for my new D5100 to use it next weekend.
This helps a lot. One thing..do you know, or does anyone reading this, know if there really is any risk to my camera if I use my old Sunpak 4000af (for film Nikons)? I know it will not work ttl automatic but there are so many scaremongers around who swear you can "fry your camera's electronics!". I doubt it but wish I had a proper opinion rather than hearsay.
what lens did u have on it:-) and also the lens hood?
@stavyros nikon 50mm f/1.8 and nikon 35mm f/1.8
Could you show us how to do de best video with this camera? please is very important, you know, how fix the exposure manual and de ISO, so it my friend!
what is the best SD card to use for the camera?
Awesome camera,I have been thinking about buying this.....
@QQQQcon do you think i could do as good pictures as your with this camera, if i use a decent lens?
@AhhboyyouGay Yea, this might take a long time to answer. Make sure all switch on the camera and the lens are on AF. What image are you trying to capture? What about lighting or are you taking pictures outside?
The camera should auto focus automatically in Auto, P, and in many of it's other settings. If you read the book, it will tell you how to slow down your shutter and how to increase your ISO (and you might not need flash).
I hope someone (pro) could help you soon.
What lens is mounted on your D5100 in this video? Thanks!
the pictures on your website, are they taken with the d5100?
Hi, could you explain how to set auto focus when making a vid, i tried it how it says on manual and it does not work. Thanks
We just bought the Nikon D5100, but we are having troubles with it.
We're trying to take action shots but it comes out blurry when the person is moving. and yes it is on the action icon.
Do you have any suggestions?
hey dude ! can we make the settings of HDR like permanent ? cus everytime I take a picture , I have to go back again and change the HDR again !
Do you have to do autofocus in video or can this be turned off? I suppose this is done on the lens itself yes?
Sir, Ofdejerski- i have an important question- you seem knowledgeable- my D5100 shuts the screen off too fast- when if fuguring out metering ore hdr or what ever- the camera shuts off so soon- does anyone have any ideas? it's making me want to sell camera. any help would be very appreciated.
nice dude....thanks! short and effective.
What kind of lens hood are you using?
i just got my nikon D5100 yesterday,,and i think its gonna wort at me:) i like it really... im planning to go for photoshot today,,.so goodluck for me,,:)
I'm going to take photography next year, and I need to choose between the Nikon d5100, Nikon d7000, Canon t3i, and the Canon 60d...
they are both very similar. nikon's autofocus is usually a little more accurate while canon's is usually a little quicker I find.
How's the 18-55 lens ? I'm a beginner this would be my first camera, and I wondered, is the 18-55 is okay, because I heard it's really crappy, And I already KNOW that doing Depth of field style photos, is going to be my strenghtness, So is it okay for that and for photoshooting...as a beginner? Or should I ABSOLUTELY buy another lens?
I don't feel like I've made myself clear --'
I'm in a real confusion trying to determine which DSLR should i Buy, the Canon 660D (T3i) or the Nikon D5100, i truly care for image quality, color intensity, sharpness and exact focusing getting very clear images, cameras options and abilities to do versatile things with shooting, and i don't care whether which one is better for beginners, that doesn't count for my interests.
I have the canon t3i, should I switch to the d5100? or should I just stay?
Informative video. I just have my Nikon D5100.
hey why is it that in my shooting menu, whilst your options are white, mine are black, so when i click them it comes up with a message saying "this option is not available" thanks rlly informative
@QQQQcon Apologies old boy I was literally unpacking it all at the time. First SLR and a little excited. I only had to switch the top to get it going lol.
What is a good prime lens for beginners ?
How do I use the TIMER? I set it to do 5 pics, but it only takes 1... :(
What kind of lens is that? I have a brand new D5100 and I wanna buy new lens for a start.
@QQQQcon im am very new to photography so i may seem dumb by saying this but what does ISO mean? can someone help an amateur out with that?
@3GBlog pretty difficult sometimes
i have the same camera but i am just wondering when i push the flash button the flasher didnt pop--up just like yours.
the image quality is fine with that lens, the built quality is crummy but ok for a beginner. If you want to be able to get shoots with low depth of field (more blur) then a nikon 50mm f/1.8 may be better.
Thanks, this was great...thank you so much, I've been looking for a video with all this... but could you do it a bit slower so it can absorb better. Im brand new and it takes time to sink in.xx
i hve a tamron 28-200mm lens. is it compatible with nikon camera..
than you so much for taking the time to do this, definitely better than the manual XD
Doe's it have a mic ? and what lens are those ?
I guess in the set-up menu the monitor switch off period is set very low to save battery. I am still waiting to get my D5100 so I am guessing based on another Nikon I have.
did you film this with a gopro??
@simon44 Yes just turn the lens to manual
What lens is that you're using?
@QQQQcon Cool. Thankss. I got class 10 san disk yesterday. My next issue was the skipping on playback. Turns out a need a HD video converter. Know where I can get a freebee before I drop thee 35 bucks for one?
What's the name of your lens hood? I want to buy only the hood, you know.
@QQQQcon Hey, some help please? When I hit up in playback mode to get shooting information, nothing happens. A little help?
do you shoot all your photos with a d5100?
Hello! How can I change the sharpness on a Nikon D5100 , because I have gone true all the menus but can't seem to find , where to set the sharpness :|. Thank you!
Nice guide, but 2:48 you are advicing to use always Adobe RGB because of more colors. Actually Adobe RGB is standard from 1998 and useful only if your are going to edit all your images in Photoshop. Most users will primarily use their photos for photo print, so most expert recommend using sRGB as it has more vivid colorspace and it is "ready-for-print". But I like your guide, learned new tricks as the freshman d5100 user. Keep the spirit!
@wlor24 no, rented for this review.
is there any way to leave the flash on while recording?
last Q. what kind of lens hood is that? :D
what lens and hood is that?
What lens it that?
@TommyiLLFigure in a nutshell the ISO is the amount of light the sensor inside the camera is taking in. Increasing the ISO in a dark lit room will allow more detailed photos but if you then went outside into the sun you would have to reduce the ISO or you'd massively over expose the image.
does nikon d5100 have timer ? example if i want to take a picture of me and theres nobody just me and the camera . I havent seen the video yet xD
@AhhboyyouGay read the manual, it is in there
I Have Bought D5100... Its Awesome.. Buy this.. I did deep research then bought..
Yaloo.. can you help me how to show on nikon d5100 guidelines...thank's
ok, pleaase help me!!! I don't know what I did, but when i set my camera to macro and than half press shutter it won't focus!!! Pleas help! Thanks :)!!
@imgal but it's still a really good lens, you could buy it if you want. it's just that, you can't take a big variety of different pictures with a no zoom lens. You can't take wideangle shots of landscapes, and you can't take telezoom shots of animals and stuff like that. But it's your money, so you choose ;)
People who're complaining that he's talking too fast in this video don't probably have any idea about how the English language is spoken. Do you want him to talk like this - "If you... (5 secs pause) hold it... (5 secs pause) down... (5 secs pause)?" Anyway, dude, I've got a question for you. I'm a beginner and looking to shoot pretty much anything and everything to learn. What would you prefer for your D5100 as a prime lens - 35mm1.8f or 50mm1.8f? Please let me know. Thank you in advanced.
@tala012 nikon 50mm f/1.4
because your in an auto mode, you need to use P, A, S or manual to get full control of your camera.
Killer video dude, thanks
Thank you very much! Keep up the good work!
what is the specs of your lens?
what kind of lense is that?
Is this video is shot on a GoPro??
great explanation on menu function ... but cant able to see the screen properly because you shaking the camera... any way thank you...
